Thank you for the 4XL - Great helmet
After trying the Icon Airmada (3XL was a bust) and LS2 Vector (3XL fit, but with uneven tightness and some front and rear pressure points), the 4XL HJC IS-Max 2 is a breath of fresh air. My head measures 25" around, so I am two sizes beyond the prescribed size, but find that this helmet passes all the usual fit tests with flying colors, so I think it runs a bit small. As a very long oval head-owner, I think this helmet could reasonably be classified as long oval, not intermediate; it's a very comfortable and all-over consistent fit.

While I have been a little skeptical of the modular design in general, this helmet feels solid and I am confident that my face and chin are reasonably well protected. The convenience and comfort of being able to "open up" are awesome.

Vision from the helmet is excellent and the internal sun visor is sufficiently dark and highly adjustable. Compared to the LS2 Vector, this helmet is significantly better in this regard; the sun visor goes down further and has a lot less distortion at the edges of the visor. While I was pleased with the LS2 Vector's sun visor, I am THRILLED with the HJC IS-Max 2's visor.

Relatively Insignificant Gripes:
-It should really come with a HJC IS-Max 2 Chin Curtain. Just add $5 to the price and throw it in the box!
-I would prefer a quick-release strap over the D-rings.

Great helmet great value
I riide a KTM 990 Adventure and just did 2000 miles around Europe with this helmet. Amazing fit and feel and quality for the price. I had a modular some years ago but recently have used a solid shell. MODULAR IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO! It is so conveneient when you stop for gas, you can flip it up to go inside to pay,. I also flip it up when manoevering in parking lots etc. it's sturdy and very stylish. I'm getting one for my wife too.

Verus Shoei RF-1200 Helmet
While I will provide some initial feedback specific to the HJC IS-Max, I would like to do it from a comparison perspective to my 1 year old Shoei RF-1200. Background: I am 5’10” and ride a 2014 Honda VFR800F with 1-inch handlebar risers, which provides a more upright riding position. I commute year around about 35 miles each way on a 60-70 MPH freeway. In addition, I wear earbuds or earplugs.
1. Weight – Right out of the box, I couldn’t believe how light the HJC was. It does feel lighter than my Shoei.
2. Aerodynamics – The HJC seems to pick up a lot less turbulence than my Shoei. The weight difference and aerodynamics are very noticeable when checking blind spots.
3. Comfort – I find the comfort to be comparable. Neither helmet provides any pressure points
4. Noise – This may be a pure byproduct of riding position and design, but I don’t notice any more noise with the HJC than I do with the Shoei.
5. Glasses – The Shoei may be a bit easier to put glasses on but with the drop-down visor on the HJC, I haven’t needed my sunglasses yet.
6. Earbuds – The Shoei has a tad more room when you are wearing buds, but both allow me to put the helmet on without knocking the buds out. I assume either helmet will accept a com system easily.
7. Venting - I haven’t noticed a difference between either helmet in airflow. I usually run hot, so I would appreciate more flow from either or both.
8. Anti-fog – Both have pin-lock
9. Chin Curtain – My Shoei came with the chin-curtain and I had to purchase one for the HJC for $8.00.
10. Safety – Shoei DOT and Snell. HJC DOT
11. Modular Convenience – No comparison as the Shoei isn’t a modular. That said, I love the convenience of the HJC.
12. Value – New Shoei $480-$590. New HJC $188-$225. No comparison. I am selling my Shoei.

Have had 2, both broke within 1 year
Mine was the elemental graphic but same helmet. First helmet, the sunviser broke in the fist year. Something with the mechanism broke and the visor would not go down. Revzilla/HJC replaced the helmet under warranty. Here we are about 1 year later and it is broken again. This time it is the chin bar. It no longer locks in the open position. Currently working with Revzilla for a return/replacement. Not happy with the quality of the helmet.

IS-Max for the win!
This helmet feels good and looks good. This is my first helmet so I can't compare it to anything else (weight, noise, air flow). But in my opinion, this helmet has good air flow, it feels light, and the noise isn't that bad. I also installed a Sena 20s on it. Installation was a breeze! Plenty of space in the helmet for the speakers and Bluetooth clamp.

Opening and closing it is so smooth and simple. I like the integrated sun visor. It's not the darkest visor and sometimes it feels like it's not blocking out the sun all that well, but it's better than nothing.

The air flow is good. I wish it had wider air vents but I'll regret saying that once colder fall air comes around. The noise is tolerable. It doesn't bother me and I usually ride with music so I barely notice it at all.

One thing I love and hate is the curvy shell. I can't seem to get My GoPro mount on there nicely without a noticeable gap. Not GoPro friendly but that's not a huge problem. I'll probably find a DYI guide with custom epoxy putty made mount.

This helmet is very stylish (I got the black and white model). I just bought the same helmet but in high viz for my girlfriend. For the price, I'd definitely buy the same helmet in a different style if I decide to mix it up. The price is right and it has all the right features.

All the features and all the looks
After a lot of research I am happy with my purchase! The helmet fits great, cushion/comfort is what you'd expect for the price range. I originally loved the idea of the sun visor and would have thought that would be my favorite feature, and while I do love it (I don't have to put sunglasses on with a helmet, uncomfortable) my favorite feature is the modular! it is so easy to take on an off without having to adjust my ears/face (lol). Overall a well built helmet.

I also was able to mount my Sena 20S headset on it, not a great seating position but it works!

Great Helmet for the Price Point
Good Looking Helmet for the price, some people are concerned about the road noise but they probably aren't picking up the chin cushion which I feel should just be included. My only gripe on the helmet is that it should include the cushion (I also got the pin lock but I understand that not being inlcuded), and the sun shades are ridiculously light shade... I wear glasses full time and was hoping to avoid having to swap to my sunglasses but am finding that I won't be able to bypass this... great purchase for the price for an everyday helmet....

Glad I bought it
This replaces my previous gen HJC bt is max. It is noticeably lighter. The inner shield seems to be slightly very slightly different (harder to find) strange I know but not a complaint. Protection is good I suppose seeing as how I haven't had to rely on it while crashing. The airflow should be improved over the old version and I can feel the air on my head, it's bald that helps. However I could also feel that with the last one as well. This has more porting for airflow therefore it should be more effective. I just can't tell a big difference. The style is much much more to my liking. When the chin bar locks down it's much more quiet, sometimes I have to double check it is fully locked. Not a complaint just something I've noticed. Over all it is a pleasure to wear, thank you.
