Reviews & Questions
As others have said, they're small. That said, they have plenty of uses. On the left side I have a baggie of various splices and terminals for emergency electrical repair, two different sizes of zip ties, a small tube of Loctite, and a spare LED flashlight. The right side holds other things handy in a pinch; some tape, tire pressure gauge, plastic bags, a lighter, etc. The rear bag is absolutely the perfect size for my tire repair kit (Stop & Go Pocket Tire Plugger). This is all stuff I like having with me on the bike at all times, but don't want taking up space in my panniers.
The bags are really unobtrusive since I pretty much always have my Vario panniers on. They just blend in the space between the pillion grab handles and the Vario cases. I seriously doubt that most people even notice them unless I point them out. Same with the rear bag; it lives in the space above my tail light and below my top case.
The bags are constructed of material heavy enough that I don't ever worry about damaging/tearing them. The zippers are large and robust. I've had zero occasions to question the build quality or integrity of these bags.
Mounting is really simple...sort of. The rear bag is super simple and installs flawlessly. If you're using the standard top rack without a top case, the side bags install equally easily. Where you run into a small problem is when you go to install the side bags when using a Vario top case (can't vouch for other brands). The bags have two sets of velcro straps on them, front and rear. With the top case mounted, the rear straps are too bulky to attach as intended. I pretty easily got around that by using tie straps run through the rear straps and attached to the top case mounting plate. Everything then fits as intended and I've had no problems with bag security.
I leave it to you to decide if eighty bucks is worth freeing up space in your panniers, assuming you use your panniers. To me, it was. The items I put in my Givi bags are those I hope to never need, but never want to be without when I'm a couple of hundred miles from the nearest shop. In these bags those items remain dry, secure, go mostly unnoticed, and are always available if needed. For that reason, I give the bag five stars and heartily recommend them.
They are connected by simple velcro, and where I live, that means "easy to steal." I modified them a bit with zip ties to make casual theft more difficult.
Anyway - I certainly like having them and wouldn't get rid of them, which is why I gave them a decent rating. I'd even recommend them as long as you know what you're getting.
