Gerbing's Permanent Dual Temp Controller INSTALL-2012 BMW K1600GTL
It was easy to install on my 2012 BMW K1600GTL. had to take all the faring pieces off on one side of the bike to be able to route the wires from the battery to the faring. the indicator lights are good for the daytime, but may be a little bright for night use for some people, used it all last weekend, it was 20 degrees in Caribou ME and it worked great. had the jacket, pants, gloves and socks plugged in, I was toasty warm! be careful not to drill into your gas tank on the GT / GTL, its right below my mounting location. I would recommend placing the plugin ports / wires on the left side of the bike, giving a little extra slack when dismounting. be sure to turn your controllers off BEFORE plugging in or unplugging.

Gerbing's Permanent Dual Temp Controller
Installed on a removable panel on my fairing. The stated size holes for the led's are too small. Actual size is .120 (#31 drill). So I'll be able to disconnect the coax connections for fairing removal, I didn't use the shrink tubes. Some dielectric grease waterproofs things just fine. Other reviews cautioned against pulling the shafts out of the units when removing the knobs. As a precaution, I held the shafts with a pair of needle nose pliers & the knobs pulled off with no damage. Everything works as it should, & it's a neat, clean installation. Very happy.

Decent product
This permanent dual controller makes a nice addition to the look of my bike. I've yet to make labels for the knobs, but plan to do so in the future. The controllers have infinite settings to set the temperature at whatever makes you comfortable. All in all I'm happy with this product at this point and it serves the purpose it was intended for.
Now for my complaints! This is the second set that I installed in my bike. The first set that I put in had an issue of losing the stop point when trying to turn off, and would then go in a continuous 360 degree motion. My first thought was when pulling off the cap on one for the installation, the stem pulled out as opposed to just the cap coming off, I worried that I damaged it.There is a slight nub for you to orient into the slot for the proper reinsertion, which you can feel when re-installing. After that controller went, about a week later the second one had the same issue, all this without actually ever seeing road time. I guess I liked to see the led light!
Anyways after a call to Gerbings they set me up with repair/replacements in around a week turn around time. I can't say enough about the excellent customer service! Although I am a little skittish and very gentle with the knobs, this product is performing as expected.
Now comes my only other complaint. The controller is an encapsulated circuit board with threads protruding for your locking nut(s) to secure to your plastics. In my case I installed mine on the lower left side of my fairing. The only problem being was having two plastics overlapping each other. With the length of thread given, I am just shy of having a full nut of thread holding this to the bike, this without being able to use the bottom nut and jamming it up to the circuit board itself. I feel another 1/4 inch of thread would not kill the profit margin on this product, and would allow multiple location installs. Hope you read these Gerbing's! Either way I would buy this product again and really enjoy the heated gear. I wish I had this stuff years ago!

Must have for touring motorcycles
I own a GoldWing. If I owned a cruiser, chopper, sport bike, or other bike that exists without massive amounts of plastic and storage space like a GoldWing or other touring bike, I wouldn't need this if I had heated gear. But if you have the space install a permanent controls, it is a must have item. This makes it so easy to plug in and ride. It makes it easier to control and gets in your way less than using the portable controller. The knobs could be made more durable and you have to be careful with the wires and LED lights when installing. There are bunches of wires, so anything short of a GoldWing means finding space for all the wires will be problematic. But for me, this is a must have item.

Great product, mounting can be a bit touchy
If you have Gerbings gear then you'll obviously want a heat controller... this one works wonderfully and you don't have to carry it around with you when get off the bike, etc.

As others have mentioned the little LEDs can be a bit of a pain to mount - they don't really attach, they just kind of sit in the holes you drill for them, so make sure you don't drill too big or you may have an issue.

Other than that small issue, I haven't found any drawbacks to this system and find it much more convenient than the portable gerbings controller I had previously.

Excellent product for a clean install
I purchased this with two Gerbing's ports, and the install is really nice. It wasn't very difficult/technical either. You do have to disconnect your battery and connect the leads to each terminal, so be sure to have your owner's manual on hand and follow the instructions to the letter to make sure you are safe. But after that it is just a matter of finding a place to route the cables and secure the "brain" of the controller. Mine sits on the airbox of my '94 R1100RS. With the port install it makes for a super convenient gerbing's setup. A note- try to have some waterproof caulk or sealant available so that you can weatherproof the knobs and the LED's when they go in. Highly recommended.

Gerbing's Permanent Dual Temp Controller
One of the comrollers didn't work, a call to Gerbing was all it took to get a replacement. The LED lights are bright and if the conroller is not turned up most of the way the lights flash on and off, kind of annoying at night.

It's expensive but very nice.
I find this thing to be expensive for what it is. It's almost half the price of the jacket. It was also a bit of a pain to install (I got some help from someone who knows more than I do). Not awful, but it was a three to four beer Saturday project. It helps lessen the draw on your battery by allowing you to have multiple settings between "on" and "off". Also, the jacket is really uncomfortably hot at full temp. I would recommend that people buy either the permanent or portable controls.

Useful product but overpriced
Not the easiest thing to install, especially for my bike (very tight spaces).
Pros:
Wire that connects to the switches, should be long enough for most install jobs.

Cons: Switches are not that well made, one of them has the LED wiring at the top of the switch, facing upward rather than to the side making installation as a surface mounted switch difficult.
Connecting hardware (Nuts, washers are flimsy and don't lock).

LED wires should be an inch or two longer.
DIN style connector is a custom format, so finding a connector that matches it, if that were ever needed is unlikely.
