VERY Functional Seat
Just put the DG BigIST leather seat on a Fat Bob. The stock seat was not too bad actually, but I wanted to ditch the pillion pad. I tried a stock Street Bob seat which looked perfect on the Fat Bob, but it did not work well for comfort with forward foot controls as it was putting pressure on the tail bone...so enter the Danny Gray seat. I've only put about 40 miles on this seat, but wow, very comfortable seat and it soaks up a lot of road imperfections. Even within 40 miles it seems to be melding with me. At 260 pounds and 5'11", I have a substantial caboose but it fit me. It might fit a smaller rear even better. There is a nice little relief in the rear bolster to take pressure off the tail bone. The rear bolster with the cloth inserts work well to hold you in place under hard acceleration and breaking. The cloth should help ventilate the buns, too. The reach did not seem to change too much from stock. The seat width helps support the upper thigh region, but might make the leg spread a bit greater when stopped (this may not be an all bad thing as it might keep pants off the exhaust). The pump up, built-in Air Hawk system can be adjusted on the fly, though a bit hard to pump if you want it extra hard while seated and on the move. This built system does not float around like the seat pads can do if slightly over inflated. So why 4-stars? Three things: 1) The look of the seat is not as clean as I would have desired (like the Street Bob seat); 2) I had to bend the front tonge to fit tank and adjust the rear mounting bracket (this is easy to do loosening 2 screws); and 3) I'm not sure how well the cloth inserts and foam are going to hold up with use. I mentioned with in 40 miles it felt like the seat was melding to me. I'm afraid that could mean the foam may bread down with use....time will tell. In the end, if you want a seat for looks while the bike is sitting in front of the bar, this seat may not be for you. If you want a very comfortable and functional seat, do not be afraid to try this Danny Gray BigIST Solo seat.
