Dainese Street Rider Perforated Jacket

The Dainese Street Rider Leather Jacket is a perfect combination of vintage and modern styling. The beautiful monotone black or brown brushed leather harkens back to the days of cafe racing and two dollar bills while the CE rated armor, muted aluminum shoulder sliders and aggressive cut bring its vintage style into the 21st century. The Street Rider bridges the gap between those riding vintage or modern-retro bikes and their faster brethren in the sport bike world, making it as at home on an R75/5 as it would be on an S1000RR.

Paying a 10-20% premium for style, best for casual riders in hot, dry climates
As usual, Dainese deliver a product with top of the line styling and safety protection without sacrificing much comfort or usability. Non-removable hard shell (puncture resistant) armor for the forearm, elbow and shoulders, with pockets for back AND CHEST protection available, and, as far as I know, the industries longest (27") pant zipper to keep the jacket against your body, all tucked under a highly abrasion resistant leather. The shoulders don't look too bulky thanks in large part to the contrasting aluminum shoulder plates providing that breaking line along where one expects to see the top of a person's shoulder.

The major drawbacks for this jacket, aside from any aesthetic opinions of my own, are that the waist adjustments are not elastic on the perforated version, and the snaps are not robust enough to hold the jacket firmly constrained against one's midsection. Some minor disadvantages are that the two internal pockets should only be used with the chest protectors, and that the arm perforations do not seem to be as good as other jackets on the market. The leather baffle along the wrists are not perforated, so little airflow can be gained by not fully zipping the wrist sections.

All in all, I think it's a great jacket. There is definitely a premium being paid for style with this jacket, as similar protection and features have been offered by Dainese for a good deal less. If you don't mind looking like a Dainese billboard every time you gear up and want to save a bit of cash, go for the perforated Racing D1 jacket for nearly identical functional performance with minor benefits of velcro wrist closures (which sacrifice durability for comfort) and elasticated scapula sections for marginally improved comfort which is especially important if you want a very tight fitting leather jacket.

Protection, Style, and oh yeah... more style!
Picked up this jacket in perforated brown and all i can say is that I am impressed with every aspect of it. The fit and finish is top of the line, the leather quality is fantastic, nice soft suede-like nu-buck leather. This is a jacket that affords you the same protection as leather track jackets, without the over the top boy-racer highlights. If you like to go fast without looking like a company's billboard, this jacket is definitely for you. Looks just as good on the bike as off.
The only thing i would have liked to see, is an included back protector, for the price i don't think it'd be asking too much of Dainese to throw one in.

Air flow: Giving it a 5 for LEATHER. It will not flow as good as a summertime mesh/textile, it has no exhaust vents on the back, but the perforation and liner do a good job at regulating the climate inside the jacket considering it is leather.

This jacket is f*cking sick
This jacket underpromises and overdelivers, it is protection and style with discretion, light weight, and hot weather comfort. No photos or video can do it justice. The stealthy, murdered-out exterior is understated, appears worn, but is at the same time of unmistakable quality. You can wear it into varied environments without seeming out of place, or advertising too much that you are a badass. It is surprisingly lightweight, wears like an heirloom out of the box, and incredibly cool on 85F+ days. It does take a bit more time to get any impacted bugs off the brushed leather, and I haven't ridden it through rain yet but I have a feeling the style points and comfort, not to mention adequate protection will more than outweigh this minor caveat. I was not sure about buying a "suede" jacket before, but now I'm not sure why more like this aren't being made. I hope Dainese keeps making this one.

Great late summer/early fall Jacket
Even better value now that it's on sale. Ive had the jacket all summer. I added chest and back protector, yes there are pockets foe these items, and yes I still get great airflow at speed (+15mph). If your looking for a great product that over delivers on claims and looks great this is the one.

So would this work better for summer ridding ? or do the perforations not make a big difference in temperature vs the non perforated version ?
Codrin O on Feb 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This is definitely a summer jacket. I've been riding around New England in 78-95F weather and have, at times, felt chilly with just a t-shirt beneath the jacket.
So would this perforated jacket be more appropriate for summer ridding?
