Classic style, a favorite for city riding
This was a splurge purchase cuz I already have the Dainese Mike (which is quite similar) and I still can't decide which I like better! Hmm... I love the four pockets which are flat and not three-dimensional, so they have a clean line and aren't frumpy. I like the slim, tailored look of it. The leather is soft and beautiful. I have the brown, it's a bit more matte finish than the waxy looking black. I've seen both and I'd have to say the black is nicer, but I still personally opt for brown cuz that's my color. It's understated and simple, without hardly any branding, just classy. Runs true to size in 48, my typical Dainese size. I love the Pro-shape armor. Where I prefer to wear it is for the majority of my everyday commuting or riding around town, but I usually opt for one of my Dainese jackets with composite armor if I'm going on a real ride. It's just an inch or so longer than a normal jacket, and I like that. It adds to the casual feel and has slightly more coverage and less drafty at the belt line. My only complaint are those expansion zippers on the sides, with a ridiculous amount of gusseted material underneath. They are absolutely, completely unnecessarily useless because the jacket isn't long enough to need them, barely more than typical waist cut. As it is, it already flares out at the bottom, which looks kinda silly and overly tailored and a bit too wide there, and there's nothing you can do about. Overlooking that, it's a great city jacket. It's got the regular mesh interior as opposed to the bubble-mesh on the Mike, so it is more casual and less scratchy feeling and I like that too (but the bubble mesh does have it's functional advantages). Overall, a great jacket that only Dainese can pull off with this degree of quality and class and I highly recommend it.

Welcome to our detailed breakdown of the new Dainese Richard leather jacket available at RevZilla.com.

The Richard is part of the Dainese City Collection. Now in my opinion, they could have easily swayed this into their Heritage Collection, just like the Harrison would be, in my opinion, a step up from here. But what I like about the Richard is it's super premium. It's premium leather, minimal logos, and again, on the bike, off the bike, it carries a very unique style. My favorite thing about this jacket is the waxy aniline-dyed. cowhide finish. Super premium leather, super soft to the hand. Has that waxy feel to it. Some of my favorite looking, smelling and feeling leather. Now it comes in a black, comes in a brown, and you can see it's that classic four-pocket European design. Classic motorcycle four pocket design.

We've seen this, but what might surprise you is its waist cut. We're actually expecting it to be more hip cut. They went waist cut. I think it's different. It differentiates this jacket from some of the other ones that look maybe similar that are on the market. And certainly, it's differentiated because it is Dainese.

Now a quick note of the fitment. Now keep in mind, it's gonna be a sportier fit than we're seeing. A lot of the other jackets like this in this four pocket are more that trench, more that boxy design. This has a svelte, clean line to it. So athletic build, it'll work for you.

Now moving back into the jacket itself. You'd love it. We're on a roll today. Four pocket design. You're gonna have snaps underneath. Not snaps exposed. Classic Dainese hardware. Again, I would have maybe like to have seen them do a slash pocket behind these bottom pockets right here. I think that would have been a nice addition, little hand warmer action. We see them do that in some other places.

Don't point that beard at me boy! Looking at the shoulders, this is one of the updates I like they've done. Comes with pro-shape armor. It's gonna be low-profile, CE-rated from Dainese Flexible. Doesn't throw off the line of this jacket, but Dainese has their new pro-armor coming out, which is in between pro-shape and composite. It's going to carry a fuller CE rating. It has a pocket for those as well. So you could upgrade to pro-armor if you so desire. Notice, clean line down the elbow. Not a ton of stitching going on here. We like to see that. If he moves his armor up, you're gonna see there's about a mid-length cinch right there along the hip. And then you're gonna have a gusset, which is about three to four inches of expansion. If you're riding upright, and you don't want it to bunch up on you, you can always gusset it out across the bottom.

If we look at the back, no back armor coming stock. This is what Dainese does. You're going Manis or you're going Wave. There's a pocket on the inside to take it to CE level 2. Dainese stitching, very subtly up along the collar. Notice that nice roll. My favorite thing about this jacket is the leather. It feels great. It smells great. It looks great all throughout the back as well. Again, it is a fashion-inspired piece, and in my opinion, it's one of the things that really differentiates Dainese from their competitors. Everybody can do sport and race. They really can. They don't do a very good job at it, but everybody's gonna come out with a race jacket. To be classic, and to be Italian-inspired from a design standpoint, is something special.

Notice one Dainese demon logo on the left side. This is how it denotes the Fashion or City Collection. Again, not taking away from the motorcyclesque nature to it, but low profile on the logo-ing. Come back around to the front for me. Let's open this bad boy up. Single snap at the top. Zipper that goes all the way down. It's a tech-frame mesh liner on the inside of this bad boy. Notice the stitch placket. Very basic, and you're gonna have a nice...I wouldn't call it a tricot liner, I'd call it a lightweight micro-mesh up here along the collar. That's gonna be nice and comfy against your skin. You should have a Napoleon pocket as well. Again, Napoleon pocket in along the left side. That's where your cell phone goes.
