What's Happening With Cut and Sizing, Dainese?
I am not sure what is happening in the quality control department at Dainese but I just bought this jacket and for the third time with one of their products recently, I have had weird sizing issues. I have always been a dead nuts on 50 in all their leather but things have been getting very erratic.

I had a Trickster suit which I sold, regretted it and immediately bought another one. Both exactly the same size, color and model. One I wore regularly, with back protector, from day one with no issues with size. The new one I bought a few weeks later I couldn't zip up, even without a back protector in.

Same thing with Dainese boots. I recently replaced one pair with an identical pair of the same size and the right boot of the new pair was so out of spec (too small) I couldn't walk on that foot for an hour after taking it off.

Now we come to the Racing D1 perforated jacket. On the Revzilla website it looks like a nice, stylish, body hugging, racing inspired street jacket with pockets for their new two piece chest protector (I always hated the old one piece which was held in place with a single sided pocket). Just what I need to go with my new 1299 Panigale. I ordered the usual 50 and when it arrived I knew something was off almost immediately. It just looked huge on the hanger. Sure enough when I pulled it on it's close to being OK across the chest but the arms are massive, especially the forearms. I have added photos of the forearm of the Racing D1 versus a Dainese Speed Naked I have in exactly the same size. I put a tape on it and the Racing forearm is about 2" wider all round. A naked bike jacket should not be tighter than a racing inspired jacket. There's no way the armor is going to stay in place with that much free play. Dropping down a size may help with the arms a little but the chest is going to be too tight. It looks like it was made for Popeye. The cut is just way off what it should be.

I was also considering the Dainese Super Rider and saw that Anthony is recommending going TWO sizes down from your usual! That's wildly off what it should be and the opposite of what one would expect with an Italian product. Then I saw Dainese are charging nearly a grand for half a leather jacket and decided it wasn't for me :-)

My issue with this product is that sizing and cut is getting very erratic and drifting away from how it should fit for its intended use. It needs to fit closely across the whole body of it's going to protect the rider and this one doesn't. I think Dainese need to dial back the vast number of products they are putting out and focus on quality, fit and finish on a core product range. Maybe then I can go back to having confidence in ordering a particular size knowing it will fit as expected upon arrival.

This is a leather Jacket?!?
I need to do a review on this jacket. I have owned a few Dainese jackets, Alpinestars jackets, AGV sport jackets, and RS Taichi jackets.
This by far is the best jacket I have worn! Its aggressive but yet, relaxed. I have attempted to wear Euro 46 in the previous "Racing" jacket. None have worked. This jacket fits PERFECT.

My body/size:
Height: 5 feet 6 inches.
Weight: 160 pounds

This jacket fits me perfect! The Arm Length is perfect(which is hard for me cause I normally have super short arms in most jackets).

The waist is perfect. Its no where near to long so the jacket does not bunch up when I go for a ride!

The biggest thing I want to emphasize on this jacket is the air flow. The perforation is AMAZING. Also, I never owned a jacket with the 3'd Bubble liner. I thought it was a gimmick. I wear this jacket and feel the air rush down my back even when I sit straight up on my zx10r.

Also, the armor hugs my body. I wear a wave g2 in the back. The arms do not move and shoulders do not move. The armor goes all the way down almost to your wrist. Perfect.

This jacket has flexibility, comfort, protection. Why wear a textile jacket when one can buy a D1 racing jacket? Breathes and feels like you are wearing nothing.

Decent jacket with a few small issues
I really like this jacket in terms of looks. I was looking for something with maximum protection, but also comfortable enough to wear around casually. The elbow pads are a bit bulky so I don't really wear it unless I'm riding. I can get away with wearing it for a while if I'm out on a ride and stop somewhere to hangout, but it's not really comfortable enough for casual wear. I am still breaking it in and it will probably get more comfortable when the leather isn't so stiff.

I like the ability to zip it to Dainese pants, helps keep the wind out on those cold morning commutes. That being said the zippers are ridiculously cheap. I sometimes have to practically rip them out to get them to unlatch. I'm sure they'll break way before they should. Unacceptable for the price, I expect attention to small details at that price level.

The side pockets are placed a bit awkwardly, not very ergonomic. I do really like the ability to add chest and back protection though. The button snaps on the sides tend to come undone pretty easily, not really a big deal but once again more attention to detail would be nice. The stitching is well done and the leather quality is excellent.

Despite the small nit picking I do really like this jacket. The perforations let a decent amount of cool air in, yet it's still warm enough for 65 degree temps. Anything colder than that and I wear a thermal shirt or sweatshirt under it. The protection is just below racing level, especially with the extra armor inserts, yet more comfortable than a full racing jacket.

Overall the form and function is quite good. If you are looking for a jacket that is reasonably comfortable and protective this is a good choice, as long as you don't mind fiddling with cheap zippers for a minute or two.

Nice good looking leather jacket for tropical country too
I'm living in tropical country which have 20 - 34 degree celcius all year, so the choice of leather jacket is quite hard for me, I have non perforated leather jacket and I can't wear it in daytime.
The seller suggest me the perforated one and I gave it a try and I feel comfortable, the air flows throught perforated surface and cooling my body quite well.
In daytime near the beach (temperature around 30 to 35 degree) I slightly sweaty which is good for leather jacket.
For the design, this is the riding jacket I like most. Very good looking jacket and fits me comfortably.

Top quality and perfect fit
Quality is obviously top notch and fit is perfect. I love this jacket!

I'm 52, 5'9", 185lb, non athletic build. For reference, I wear Joe Rocket US Size 42 for summer and AGV US Size 44 for winter layering.

Ordered this perforated jacket in EU size 54 to use in summer with back protector, which is one size up as some recommend. Fits absolutely perfectly, snug but not tight in both body and sleeves. Elbow/forearm protectors in perfect position and will not move or twist. Feels very snug off the bike, but in position on the bike it is just right.

If it was for winter layering, I'd have to go up at least one more size.

High quality.
Dainese Racing D1 Perforated Leather Jacket is expensive but is a prime example of "getting what you pay for" which is a high quality jacket. I have had a bad expensive painfull experience with another well known, name brand gear and won't make that mistake again.
Fresh out of the bag you smell and can feel the quality of the Italian? leather. Attention to detail appears to second to none. My size is 250#+ and 6'2"+ with broad shoulders, long torso and arms. I had a hard time finding a jacket that fit and when I realized Dainese made a size 62 and had an oportunity to try one on I was hooked. It may be a little too big, especially in the waist, but I think I have room for a sweatshirt underneath if needed. I have not had an opportunity to use in high heat yet but think it will be fine as long as I'm moving and not sitting too long. Only minor gripe I have is I wish it included the back protector.

1st leather jacket
First let me say I'm new to sport bikes but not to motorcycles. Just purchased a Daytona 675R and the thrill is back! Some people look at buying all the goodies for their ride..for me protection is my first priority. I researched just about every brand out there and for me Dianese is the best, expensive but can you put a price tag on your well being?
Pros
Certified composite protecters
Injected aluminum shoulder inserts
Reflective inserts
S1 fabric
Race grade leather
The list goes on and on
Cons
Only 1...wish the sleeves were slightly longer

Definitely would recommend this jacket to anyone. It's very comfortable and get compliments all the time!

5'7" 155 lbs, size 50 fits great
Being that this jacket is being discontinued a review may be moot, but it's still handy to know about sizing.

I was concerned because the jacket was so snug, but there's a reason for that and it's because you don't want the armor to move in a crash. The shoulders were very snug, and that was my biggest concern. But in a riding position it's right where it's supposed to be.

The jacket vents real well. It's NOT like a mesh jacket however, so don't kid yourself. But I've decided I ride hard enough where I need to give up a little bit to protect my body.

It's true that with Dainese you are paying maybe a 30%-50% premium for the name, styling, and quality.

But everything I've bought from them I feel good about later when the newness wears off. The quality and style are incomparable. THAT is worth the price of admission to me. This jacket is bad-ass. No qualifications.

Nice Jacket; Collar Can Interfere with Helmet
I bought this jacket as I wanted the protection of leather, without a speed hump for the street. I bought size 50 and I am 5' 7", 165 lbs, athletic to average build. It is also my first leather jacket and I have both BMW S1000R and S1000RR. I love the jacket, BUT: the collar interfered with my Shoei RF-1200 helmet, especially in the semi-tucked or tucked position on the S1000RR. It is clear the collar is unique, relative to other jackets: It has a collar extension (increased height) and most jackets have softer material at the back of the neck--the D1 Racing Jacket doesn't. This would be less of an issue with many helmets, I should say. Bottom line: For my situation, I needed to have the collar modified with a tailor who specializes in leather. I love the jacket, BUT I can't give it 5 stars for an issue that Dainese should've prevented; many of their own jackets have a collar that was designed to prevent this issue (softer material at the back of the collar and less collar height). If you buy this, just be aware of this issue.

Beautifuly awesome gear
One of the most well made jackets I've ever purchased. I'm a slightly awkward fit. I'm 5'11 with a 54 shoulder and 48 waist (euro). My shoulders are broad, waist thin and arms not quite the biggest. This however fits me the best out of most jackets and with chest and back armor inserts in made me feel more confident riding.

I purchased the perforated for summer riding, with the d1 back protector slightly sweaty it actually works to cool you down after the initial heat. I added in Alpinestars Nucleon perforated chest protectors and could really feel a big difference in airflow(more). I'm loving this jacket and am really sold on the quality of Dainese. And the strong leather smell. Love it. I get all kinds of looks wearing this and am recognized by people in my city because how unique this jacket is. Even at night, with the reflective tape I'm seen.

My favorite coat. True to fit and don't recommend getting something larger. I can wear a hoodie underneath if needed but most of the time in cooler weather I wear a wind breaker which works really well. The coat is great in the summer heat (at speed) and is top quality all around. I have the white which take a bit more cleaning but not a color that is usually seen. I would get this coat again.

I chose the D1 because it was the only Jacket that Dainese sold in tall sizes.I chose the perf version of the D1 because i can ride it all summer in hot temps, and when it gets cooler just put the Dainese thermo long sleeve base layer on. and its now good to -10. Its much better than the alternative of non perf and getting to warm. Its always easier to get warm than stay cool. Thanks for costing me a fortune revzilla, I look great. yours truly , the Canadian.

Which one better, tutu leather or d-skin leather for dainese jacket?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2015
Two questions here: Do the 2 chest protector pockets require a different or new insert compared to the L2 or Thorax that is used for other jackets? Will there be a long version for the perforated jacket as was mentioned in the non-perforated jacket's video?
A shopper on Aug 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I used the A-star chest protector for this jacket. Fits perfectly.
How warm is this jacket in the spring/fall? I want the perf but am afraid it'll be too cold for the 40-50 degree spring/fall days and the regular will be too hot for the 80 and humid summer days. Any thoughts from the people that own it?
Gerald G on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: i am very pleased with this jacket. while it is a pretty penny i think it's worth it,
i used a very thin hoodie under the jacket and rode it in 45 degree weather and was very comfortable. the perforations allow air to flow through but it's not like it flows in a way that you will feel like you aren't wearing anything.
the jacket looks and feels amazing and is a very high quality stitched. i recommend adding the back protector made for it for added protection.
the only CON i have for you is that the jacket is heavy (weight). while wearing it doesn't bother me but if you have to lug it around on your arm it really wears you down.
Other than that i love it.

Happy riding to you Gerald.
Is there a picture for the White/Black/Red? I only see the Black/Black/Red. Thanks in advance.
Barry C on Oct 25, 2014
I measure in at a 41.5" chest, and I'm 6'2" tall. I'm looking at getting a size 52 tall (I definitely need the tall, long torso and long arms, I learned that the hard way on my last jacket purchase). I'm worried a little about the chest fit. I plan on using the chest armor and back protector inserts. Can anyone comment on sizing with the inserts installed? I'm wondering if I should go up a size to the 54 if I'm going to use the inserts.
Max K on Sep 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm 6' even 43.5" chest. I bought the 54 short - perfect fit. I'm not wearing a back insert, however certainly could, as there is enough space. I also have a standard 52 Dainese and do not wear the back insert in it either and it would be a very tight fit if I tried to. It's a tight aggresive fit. I prefer the 54 short. BTW grab the Dainese union belt - I don't like wearing leathers around town etc, prefer my reinforced jeans and the union belt allows me to zip to the jacket, works just perfect. Cheers from Oz.
What pants would match with this jacket?
A shopper on Apr 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: the closest thing I've found in my opinion was the dainese pro c2 pants. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-delta-pro-c2-perforated-leather-pants
Does the D1 G2 back protector go narrow side up or down? The logo implies narrow side up, but my other cheaper back protectors go narrow side down. It will imsert either way.
Donald S on Oct 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: narrow side up
Sizing question. I'm 165cm, 59kg, 35 inch chest. Will size 44 be ok or will this be too tight on me? I would like to put in a thin back protector but I'd like it to be a snug fit but not straight jacket tight
tsuyoshi t on Jul 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I'm only a couple centimeters taller, so unless we are shaped very differently, 46 would be the prefect fit as I found 44 to be too tight even without a back protector inserted.
I am confused on the measurements. I am 6' 2 1/2" and 199 pounds with long legs and arms. I wear a dress shirt with a 36" sleeve and a 40L suit jacket. I can probably wear a 42L jacket and get away with it. At my bike shop, I've tried on some Dainese jackets of various model and the 58 fits me very nicely except that the torso and sleeves are too short. I am trying to get the correct Tall size in hops that I can finally have some decent protection from the road. But a 58 size equates in the chart to a 44.9-46.5" chest. I am wondering how I could be so far off from my suit jacket size yet still have a tailored fitting riding jacket. Also, can someone tell me the difference in torso length (front and back) between a regular and tall sized jacket? Thanks!
Andrew B on Apr 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I am 6'3, 205 lbs, 43"ish chest. I went with the 54 tall and I couldn't be happier with the sizing, it fits me like a glove.

The sleeve and torso length are spot on perfect for me. I am very glad that I went with the tall version. I spent alot of time looking at the different options on the sizing chart, and I can now say the normal non-tall version would be a poor fit for me. The torso length would for sure be too short on me.

It's a comfortable fit, not too tight and not too loose. I have room to layer up and/or add a back protector.

Based on your stats I would only look at the 52 or 54 tall jackets, don't bother with the normal one.

It says to expect an additional 2-3 weeks ontpp of revzillas regular shipping time for the tall sizes, but I had the jacket delivered to my front door just 8-9 days after I placed the order. Obviously your situation might be very different but I was surprised with the very fast shipping time.
In the top picks video of jackets you mentioned this specific jacket and while describing it you mentioned that if you want to back protection you would up grade to a wave if you wanted a ce level of back protection... What does that mean is that a entirely different jacket that has protection? Is it a insert for additional back protection? My biggest concern is protecting my spine and I'm looking to invest into a nice sport like leather jacket within this price range.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, I have this jacket and wear it every time I ride, ZX-6R. The jacket have a pocket on the back (inside of course), so you can insert a Back Protector from Dainese to have a better back protection.
I buy the "Dainese Manis D1 G Back Protector Insert" for the jacket. It's very comfortable and it gives you much better protection.

If you don't buy the back protector, then the jacket itself give almost 0% protection for your back because there is only a thin layer of leather.

I should mention that almost all of the jackets doesn't come with the additional back projector. If they do come with one, it is very thin and soft and I think it give you 0% of projection.
