Reviews & Questions
The thermal liner is a fully finished jacket, which is a really nice bonus feature. It is fairly inconspicuous, and has its own set of zip pockets. Perfect for spring weather when you are off the bike.
The waterproof liner is what would be expected, and the stitching does seem durable. I only encountered an issue because I yanked at it trying to get it off. Otherwise, it keeps you bone dry. I was very impressed.
The jacket itself looks and feels great. Armor runs along the elbow and all the way down the forearm, as well as on the shoulder. As the description notes, there are pockets for chest and back protectors; I have both in my jacket. Definitely a little snug with all the extra armor, but it is very comfortable and not terribly heavy. The zippers are smooth and the snap adjustments don't unbutton on a whim. Solid jacket. I haven't been down on it yet, but it feels pretty much bulletproof with the chest and back protectors.
For fitment, I am a lanky dude (5'11" height, 165lbs, 38" chest, 24" sleeve, 30" waist) so getting a jacket to fit right at the sleeves off the bike was a concern of mine; the 1.5" of skin at the wrist looks ridiculous. I went with a 48 and this jacket fits great - right down to the wrist. The cut of the waist is a little high (just around the belt line) but the available zip belt makes it work just fine.
My first time out with this jacket was in torrential downpours for 4+ hours of straight rain (bad MSF weather timing). My torso was dry and warm as could be with the two inner layers on and a t-shirt underneath. The second day was a little snow and bitter bitter cold weather (~28 degF high winds), and once again I was quite impressed with how warm I was (under the jacket anyway). I did have on some thermal base layers, but the jacket did a good job of cutting the wind down.
In warm weather, I can see this jacket being too hot. It has four vents, 2 intakes in the front and 2 exhausts in the back. In 70 degF weather, with a t-shirt on and the vents open, I was very comfortable riding around, and only a little warm at stoplights. However, once the temperature reaches around 80 or 90, this jacket will probably be stifling.
Overall, absolutely thrilled with this jacket purchase. Considering you get a bonus jacket to stroll around in springtime weather, the price point isn't even that bad.
Paired with the Dainese Chest/Back armor noted below, this jacket is fairly heavy, but fits well and feels very protective. I use gauntlet gloves, tucked under the sleeves of the jacket which is a tight squeeze but once buttoned up, no issues with motion on the wrists.
The waterproofing is pretty good, tested in several Colorado downpours -- just the jacket itself repelled water fairly well, but it did soak through after 15-20m. If you have time to stop & prep for rain, then the d-dry liner will keep you dry for sure.
The jacket can get got when riding in the city in summer heat (90+F), but once moving it's good with the vents (front+back) open.
Overall very happy with the jacket, upgrading from an older mesh jacket this is much more protective, and all around nicers.
Where it does great:
1. This is a very good everyday jacket. It's not super heavy (compared to leather) and does well in a wide range of temperatures.
2. I have the black version and it's suitable when off the bike which is important to me since I ride my bike everyday.
3. The thermal liner that comes with it is a nice fleece that can be used off the bike that's good.
4. The waterproof liner is compact enough that I can keep it under my seat. I rode in serious rain and it did very well.
Where is does so so...
1. The 3 liners are not zipped together. very hard to keep in place. I basically have to put them on separately. This is annoying.
2. There is no inside pockets for wallets or phone. And the pockets are not waterproof either so you have to carry your stuff elsewhere when it rains. I find having my wallet and phone in the front pocket uncomfortable when riding.
3. The idea of having an internal waterproof liner just does not work for me. This means the water penetrates the outer fabric and is stopped by the liner inside. And what this really means is: the inside of your jacket (between the 2 layers) get wet. So the water collects inside the sleeve and runs all the way directly into your gloves :-( this also means the inside of the jacket gets wet, drips water when you get home and is hard to dry off inside the sleeves.
Luckily I live in CA and don't have to deal with rain that much. Otherwise I would definitely not keep it.
Hope this helps.
For the price point you are getting quite a good bang for the buck considering all the layers and features that comes with the jacket.
The jacket is screams European Sport Touring in its style and design. The front pockets are placed further towards the front then most motorcycle jackets, which is a huge plus. It gives quick and easy access on or off the bike. A lot of other jackets, the pockets are too far back towards the side of your waist making them inconvenient.
The layers of the jacket are loosely attached to each other by 3 buttoned tabs: 1 on each sleeve and 1 at the collar. This makes removing each layer very easy and quick. On the downside, with all the layers in, it can get a bit hectic putting on and taking off the jacket because of how loose everything sits. But with some practice, finesse, and patience it won't be an issue at all.
With all the layers in and the vents closed, I was able to comfortably ride at highway speeds in 30 degree weather. Makes this an excellent choice for the colder months of the year.
With all the vents open and the layers out, the jacket is summer capable up to any temperature but it depends on rider tolerance. The longer rides in very hot conditions won't be comfortable in this jacket at all. Anything less that very hot, you will be good as long as you move. With this jacket being multi-seasoned focused, it obviously won't be as well suited and move as much air as a full fledged mesh jacket for the summer so buying this jacket solely for the summer is not a good idea.
As for sizing, I'm 6ft 135lbs with a 35 inch chest (aka the tall lanky kind of guy) and I decided to go up a size to size 50 on this jacket. I considered all the layers and the length of the jacket. With all the layers in the jacket is snug and all the armor is in their proper place. There is some room left as well for a back protector, which I will be grabbing in the near future, further making the size up the right choice for me. The length of the arms are perfect but the waist could be an inch or 2 longer. Without all the layers the jacket does look a bit 'bulky' but that is to be expected for someone of my frame. The jacket does give plenty of adjust-ability on the arms and a bit on the waist so you can tailor in the fit.
Overall, excellent cold weather capable jacket priced perfectly with all the features you are getting with great style and fit.
This jacket has 3 layers... 3... That's a lot of layers, not including the shirt / T-shirt you'll be wearing under it. That being said, it fits just perfectly. I don't think the 3 layers are 3 layers per se, maybe 2.5 layers, since the D-Dry liner is extremely thin.
It can be a hassle to put the jacket on and take it off with all those layers, but eventually you'll get used to it, I suppose.
It's VERY comfortable and should keep you very warm indeed. I purchased the blacked out Hawker D-Dry and I just think it looks phenomenal.
I wouldn't say it's a true 4 season weather jacket since the venting isn't spectacular, you really only have 2 upper intake vents, so you'll be sweating a lot in the Summer if you have this on. I would definitely say it's a 3 season cold jacket.
Just a monster of a jacket, everyone must have one.

I slid about 30 feet on my face, shoulder, and arm.
Aside from a small tear (about the size of a nickel) near the shoulder armor and being covered in scrapes and mud, the jacket held up extremely well. No injuries whatsoever on my upper body, and my Icon Airmada saved my face and eyes. The only injury I sustained was some road rash on my knee.
I love the styling of the jacket (I got the black white and red model). I'm 6'1 and somewhere between 190-200 lbs. and the 54 fits perfectly.
The liners are a little tricky to get used to because they don't zip in. But it's not a big deal once you get the hang of it.
My only gripes would be that there is no waterproof pocket inside or outside the jacket, so my cell phone has to go in my backpack when it's raining, and the collar digs in to my neck a bit. This was only an issue on my ZX6R while being leaned over. It's not so bad on the FZ-09 because I'm upright.
I would recommend this jacket without a doubt. Haven't tested it in warm weather yet, but I feel it would be just fine. Definitely keeps me warm when it's cold out. Rode in temps down to 45 so far and I was toasty.
Sucks that I damaged it less than a week after getting it, but I'm glad it did its job! Now to save up until I can get another one.
Over all, Dainese knows how to make a perfect jacket. Thank you RevZilla for all the videos, it was an excellent tool to make a decision
Works great in the rain and not as hot as it was billed. Texas summer, over 100, sweat but not hot.
