Reviews & Questions
As usual, I have a hard time using the phrase "bang for the buck" to describe Dianese base layers, but you do get the quality you pay for. 4 stars.
Everything else, 5 stars. It has the only "features" a base layer can have, with the monkey paws and the offset zipper (which is a very nice touch). It fits the way it's supposed to, it's comfortable, and does it's job. And it's from Dainese, so of course the styling will make you feel like your last name is Rossi.
Concerning the fit, it's a very close, snug fit. Not uncomfortably tight, but snug enough that I don't think it's appropriate to call it a "jacket." These are all good things. The first time I tried it on, and then put on my Scion jacket over it, it was a revelation. Like the feeling when you put your... uh... in her... yeah... Seriously, that good. This fleece makes the jacket slide on so smooth and then it all hugs you and says, "oh the weather outside is frightful, but the ride is so delightful..."
About the size: I'm 6'0" and pretty skinny, the medium fits me just right. The sleeves are long enough for my arms to extend completely (somewhat surprisingly) without stretching, but the material is very stretchy. The bottom comes down just enough to cover my belt. Again, fits just right. If you're more barrel-chested you'll want a L or XL, but remember it is meant to be snug.
So how warm is it? I haven't tested it in truly cold conditions yet, but when wearing it underneath a wind-blocking jacket, I felt completely comfortable and sealed off at any speed in 40 degrees at 2am. Until now I've been riding with summer gear, and then layering up at night. All of the hoodies and thermals I had wouldn't hold a candle to what it felt like finally riding with some proper cold weather gear. Feels cozy just like riding in a car (almost).
