Great Leather Jacket
Hi folks,

I have to say that I have never even considered a leather jacket as I prefer textiles to leather for many reasons. However, this spring I decided to purchase both pants and a jacket and did so from Cortech. The jacket is excellent in every regard with the exception of needing a back protector which I found for $50 by Forcefield (Sport Lite CE Level 1), a perfect fit. So that brought the price up to $340 complete. Try to find a similar featured Dainese or Alpinestars for the same money and you would have to order from Burnout Italy or other on-line Euro retailer and role the dice on returns, shipping and the risk of seconds.

The fit is very good and the pre-curve to the sleeves is not overly aggressive. Don't expect a Euro fit if you are that type of rider who needs everything close to the skin. This jacket has a bit more room but still looks good and has a nice taper to it. Adjustability in the waist is adequate and easy to actuate with a gloved hand.

The thickness of the leather is as noted and is on par with other best in class jackets of this type. The stitching is first rate. I like that the drop seat is rugged and adds a bit more protection. The pockets provide plenty of storage for a garment in this price range and finding the zippers with a gloved hand is easy as the Jacket comes with leather zipper extensions which are a nice touch. The neoprene collar is comfortable. The jacket has lock down zippers at the wrist which taper nicely and finish to a neoprene wrist collar which is also very comfortable. The sleeve ends have a strip gator that folds in under the zipper which is all that is really needed for this type of jacket. As well, the jacket zips nicely to the Cortech pants to create a "B" race suit. I have used it on vintage track days.

The air flow is good for a leather jacket. Not as good as mesh so don't expect same. I have ridden the jacket with the liner in an have to say it's an excellent feature that is not found in other leather jackets at this price point. My range of comfort for speeds between 0-80 MPH: Liner out - up to 85 degrees. Liner in - down to 50 degrees with base and mid layer.

The torso zipper has a small wind stopping gator that works well with the liner to prevent cold air from entering through the zipper during the cooler riding season. During the summer season the hook and loop closure at the collar allows you to ride with the zipper dropped down a few inches to achieve a bit more air flow and still maintain a positive collar connection. Both features are a nice subtle touch to seasonality.

The branding is anything but subtle on the red, white and black version. Something I don't like but live with. From what I can tell the black version is far more subdued in it's enterprise advertising.

Overall, and after a season of riding, I am very happy with this jacket. Buy it if you are not brand conscious and want great protection and functionality. You can use the money use save to buy a nice bowl of pasta or a hefferveisen.

Pros:
Great price point for excellent quality
Well appointed and durable
Will work for a "B" type track day when zipped to pants
Zip in, full sleeve thermal liner
Good fit
Various color options
Thoughtful, easy to use details
Not for posers

Cons:
If you care, it needs a better back protector and that adds to the price.
Fit is not Euro, if that's what you're looking for.

Shiny side up!

Solid murdered out jacket
I will clarify, I am a brand new rider to the street scene. When I am purchasing gear I am always seeking out items that offer a great deal of protection without looking garish or loud. Cortech has put together a very fine jacket based on my limited experience.

Features:
-This thing doesn't have any additional vents on it just as is stated in the video, the perforated nature of the front panel has been flowing air just fine in my opinion. I compare it to my very standard Ninja 500 that is air cooled, as long as we are not at a complete standstill we are very comfortable and regulate temps accordingly.
-The perforated exterior may scare off some who are looking for more of a year round jacket, the included liner is a nice feature for cooler days. The construction of the liner although simple does have some nice touches that show some thought was put into the garment. For example, the entire unit zips into place, and also has color coded eyelets for the left and right side if it has been a while since you took it out.
-There are 3 pockets altogether, two exterior on the front and one interior in the left breast area. The exterior pockets are semi-small in my opinion. I have just enough room for my wallet and phone. Individuals with a set of panniers or who often carry a backpack can work around this. The inner pocket I haven't messed with except to place my proof of insurance in (in a waterproof baggie, perforated jacket remember).
-The slight tail on this jacket is one of my favorite aspects to the design and cut of the garment. I am in a semi-aggressive stance due to the nature of my bike and I love the extended coverage on my lower back when I lean forward.
-There is CE rated armor in the Elbows and shoulders. As well as a basic insert for a back protector included. I already had an alternate spine protector from mountain biking that I wear, but swapping the spine protector would be an easy change if you felt the need.

In addition to all those specific points I would like to address the very subtle nature of the graphics and logos on this jacket. I for one have felt no need to try an alter this jacket and possibly damage the leather by removing any of the logos affixed to it. The whole thing is very subdued and I have no problem with folks being able to discern the different logos on my gear that I am rocking when they get close enough to finally see them.

Sizing - This jacket is definitely a "European" cut as they state in the review video. I am considered a "fit" individual even though I don't go to the gym regularly and definitely enjoy a Cold Smoke whenever I get the chance. What I am trying to say is as long as you don't have a beer belly, imagine a straight plane from chest to waist, or even if you do have a small one this should fit just fine. There are two adjustable hip straps just in case. I appreciate that there is no excess material billowing around my waist.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase, and felt the potential increased cost of going full leather as opposed to mesh was well worth it. This jacket is forgiving when fairly warm, and you can feel the sturdiness of its construction when you don it before a ride.

Only if we could fit in an aftermarket Back protector
I got this jacket due to the price which seemed like a good deal when paired with the Apex leather pants to make a 2 peace suit
My only complain with the jacket is in regards to the back protector, it comes with a thin foam pad which is oddly shaped and there are no replacement back protectors available on the market unless some serious modifications.
However to combat that I will buy the Force field Pro 4 back protector to compensate that.
The armour on the shoulder and elbow is quiet good and will surely protect me in terms of crash provided I am not doing some crazy speeds.

Nice Value And Construction But...
I'm very pleased with this jacket overall, and would certainly recommend it. Quality and construction are great. There are just a few little things I wish I had known before I purchased it.

In my opinion it runs quite small. I "should" have been in between the small and medium sizes based on the size chart (39" chest, 69" tall, 145 lbs, athletic build). I went with the medium since I really didn't want or need a race-fit jacket. The medium "barely" fits however... the arms are "just" long enough and the torso is much shorter than all my other jackets.

There is virtually no collar. To me, the pics make it look like it has a reasonably tall Mandarin collar, but there really is no collar at all. Not a problem for warm weather riding, but I doubt it will fair well a cool weather jacket without a neck gator, etc... time will tell.

My last comment (more a suggestion maybe)... while the front zipper and the hand warmer pocket zippers are YKK brand (to which you can easily attach zipper pulls), the zippers at the sleeve cuffs are not. They have small plastic pulls on them which means that you can't attach a longer zipper pull, which I like to do since it makes them easier to open and close with gloves on. Not a deal breaker, but if you want to check your watch, open or close the sleeves while you're riding, etc... it's challenging with gloves on.

All in all, this is a well-made jacket that I'm glad I bought, but if any of the above would be issues for you... just be aware before you buy.

Great subdued black leather jacket
I bought one of these because of the collar and the subdued styling. Rather than having a raised, button over collar this jacket has an open collar. This prevents the jacket from hitting my adam's apple, and makes the jacket so much more comfortable to wear. I also (carefully) pulled the stitching out of the logos on the arm/shoulder area, to result in a jacket that is a very basic, simple, black leather jacket... something that has become hard to find at a reasonable price point. The only negatives are a lack of a back protector and the somewhat small hand warmer pockets. Fit is somewhat snug/athletic.

Decent summer leather jacket
I bought this jacket with the intention of stripping the stock armor out of it and wearing it over a forcefield pro shirt for added abrasion protection. It performs quite well for that purpose. The elbow and shoulder armor in the jacket seems adequate, but like the review says, the back insert is nothing more than a wimpy piece of foam. Definitely a necessary upgrade if you plan on wearing this jacket as a standalone piece. The ventilation is good, and the pockets are generously sized (large enough to fit even larger smart phones). The jacket seems to run a little small, though I am wearing it over additional armor. I ordered up a size in order to get a little extra length in the sleeves because I have really long arms, and even so the sleeves only go to my mid forearms. The fit in the chest is somewhat snug as well, so I'm glad I ordered up a size from what was recommended on the sizing chart.

Nice Jacket
This is my third leather jacket and wanted to try a perforated model but didn't want to spend a small fortune.

I looks good and I do get compliments while wearing it. The sizing in pretty much spot on for the average rider. I have a bit of a belly and it is a little snug around the waist. Once I zip up the pants i don;t even notice the snug fit.

I bought the Hi-Viz version and it would be nice if there was more reflective striping on the back.

Cortech delivers again
A half size small I recommend getting the next size up for a perfect fitting jacket. The style is second to none and the zippers are the best on the market . Protection is great I do a lot of wheelies and have wiped twiice with the jacket on. Right shoulder , right elbow both times . Scratches on the jacket no tears . I recommend replacing the back protector it's a lil thin for max protection. Take it from me you won't regret buying this jacket ...airflow is superb as well. I bought this jacket May 2017 and it's my second Cortech jacket and will only buy their jackets because of 1st hand crash protection I've experienced and best bang for the buck out there in racing jackets

Great Jacket
I was nervous about getting this jacket since I live in the Mojave Desert, but it is awesome! I've rode in 105-110 degrees and am quite comfortable. It fights tight while I'm standing but is great once I sit on my bike. Its very sporty but works well on my standard style bike. Seems super durable and protective but I haven't crashed in it so I can't really vouch for it.

What back protector insert works with this jacket?
Mark L on Mar 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Klim D3O Viper T5 Pro Back Protector fits perfect in my medium jacket. A great upgrade to the foam pad that comes with the jacket.
The size charge says a large should fit a 42" chest, but the video states that the guy wearing the Medium size jacket has a 42" chest and fits him perfectly. Which is correct?
A shopper on Jul 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I found this medium black jacket at my local dealer on sale so I couldn't pass it up. I am 5'8" and 137lbs. Chest is about 37". The jacket is not super tight but seems to fit me fine. I am cinching the waist straps though. Right now I am wearing a layer underneath as it's only 40's and low 50's in Michigan so it fits fine. Love the jacket. Look at the question above as I put a Klim D30 T5 Back Protector pad in and it fits great.
Just wondering if this jacket has a zip connection at the bottom too attach pants?
A S on Jan 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there is a full circumference attachment zipper.
Does this jacket have the 2 loops that connect to your belt to help keep it down when in the tucked riding posistion ?
William L on Mar 23, 2018
Is this available in "tall"? I'm 6'4" - 6'5" and 210lb. From top of shoulder to wrist measures 28". Looks like an XL-tall would be great for me from the size chart, but i don't see it in the drop-down menu. Appreciate the help :)
