Butler Motorcycle Maps Southern Appalachia

This map highlights the best paved roads in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. Roads like “The Tail of the Dragon” and Cherehola Skyway are just the tip of the iceberg. The Butler Maps team rode over 30,000 miles into every nook and cranny of the region in search of not only the popular rides but the obscure backroads that only the most seasoned locals know about. All of them are on this map.

G1 Rides

81 Routes. As riders we constantly search for the perfect road. We seek that fleeting moment where everything fits perfectly together. The rhythmic hum of the motor, the dramatic vistas that overwhelm our senses and the one of a kind road that ties it all together. We search for G1. Steep climbs, tight switchbacks, deep canyons and million dollar views. These roads have an undeniable appeal that set them apart from everything else.

Design Your Ride in Minutes

A Butler Map does more than just point out the best roads. They make it easy to plan your trip with a host of features built just for riders. Turn to the back of the map for detailed information on every G1 road recommended. There are elevation profiles, climate guides, motorcycle shop lists and even QR codes to link you to valuable information like where to sleep, where to eat or what to see when you're not on the bike.

  • 100 historically significant landmarks, highlighting the story of America from the Revolutionary War to Antebellum
  • Waterproof / Tear Resistant: The road can be tough on your gear. Butler Maps are designed to withstand abuse
  • Packs Easily: Each Butler Map folds to 4.25” x 9” to easily fit in tank and tail bags. Butler Maps can be folded to fit within map cases
  • Highlighted Rides for Easy Reference: The best rides in the state are detailed in easy-to-read, highlighted segments. GPS waypoints are provided for G1 rides
  • QR Codes: Use a smart phone? Scan one of the QR codes to link to useful information while you're out on the road. Videos of recommended rides, biker gatherings, road conditions and much more is a scan away
  • Expanded Views of G1 Rides: G1 rides are numbered and enlarged for your convenience. The expanded views of G1 rides are placed on a dedicated portion of the map
  • Mobile Tour Guide: So you've ticked off five G1 rides, and your butt is tired. Now what? Whether you need a beer, a bed or some BBQ it can all be found in the Mobile Tour Guide. Search by town, search by category or search based on the biker deals waiting for you. Everything you need in one spot
  • Dual Sport Roads: Had enough of the pavement? Try some dirt! Recommended Dual-Sport roads are moderate rides picked for spectacular scenery, remote locations and link-ability to the best paved roads
  • Shop Directory: Broke down? Need a jacket for that unexpected spring storm? Every shop in the state is listed by town to get you back on the road as quickly as possible
  • Elevation Profiles: One of the dominating features of the G1 rides is elevation change. Get a sense for exactly how much ducking and diving you're in for by referring to a detailed elevation graph
  • Climate Guides: Nothing ruins a good day of riding like a freak storm. Check out the climate guide for general information on seasonal weather or scan the weather QR code for up-to-the-minute conditions

Butler Maps Rock
Simply the best! I wouldn't go anywhere moto-worthy without my Butler Map, they have all the West now, the first of four covering the Appalachians is out, and new maps arrive several per year. Packed with info about the roads, local amenities, etc., they let you see what kind of riding you can expect, formulate your own routes with ease and without the Maddening force-routing of competitor's products. Durable far beyond typical maps (I have one that survived a dog-chewing in usable condition) they are an incredible value for just $15. You won't be sorry, it's like having a local expert in your tank bag, and makes for lots of off-trip dream-time fun, too!

Supposedly the best maps out there. Have a trip planned to the region and the map gives very good suggestions what route to take.

I love Butler Maps and enjoy using them to plan my rides! I can't wait for the Mid-Atlantic Map.
William D on Sep 18, 2016
To provide a comprehensive map of the entire region on one map. It's OK. I typically another map source for the blue ridge region and prefer it because it provides smaller roads whereas this focuses on the "big ones" in the region.

Planning a trip from NY to NC this summer. This gives you an idea of the best/better roads in extreme southern VA and all of NC.

Because I wanted it but 8 bucks to ship a map is a rip off.

I love the South. Can't wait to ride around those mountains.

Use the Gazeteer maps - bought this as an experiment. Want to see what other riders have chosen and reviewed.
Richard W on Apr 29, 2015
GPS isn't good enough. Free AAA maps don't show M/C routes. There is nothing like a great map to help visualize a route. Riding the Dragon in May.

I live in North Carolina and make regular trips to the mountains. I'm always looking for a new adventure and hopefully this map will expand my favorite routes.
Michael A on Nov 28, 2014
everything Butler makes is top quality, and their solution to the mapping the best roads problem is far superior to MadMaps or others who insist on planning your route for you. Lots of info, smart-phone scans, etc. Butler kicks ass!

How much of North Carolina is covered?
Daniel G on Jan 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: To bought this for my dad for Christmas, and when I look it over, it appeared to cover the majority of all states listed. It even had some obscure dirt roads to ride!
