Rust after a year, sometimes stuck in up position
I really liked this when I received it (I ordered mine from BC direct). But after a year, the chromed metal is rusting and tarnishing in spots. After two years, I the button will occasionally get stuck in the up position, and no amount of careful wiggling or outright slamming on it will get it to go back down for stowing. And it's temperamental: when it does this, I might try it later in the day after some riding and it'll go right down.

At least once, I couldn't get it to pop up and and I had to use a rubber jar opener to grip the smooth sides to rotate the cap off.

Yeah it looks nice, but it's not reliable and doesn't hold up to weather over more than a year or so.

I Have the Black One
When I bought the '09 Bonneville used a few years ago, it came with the black one already. I've never had any rust/corrosion problems with it, and I live very close to the ocean, and the bike is kept outdoors with a full cover on it. I have to agree with Dharmansible about it being difficult to push the knob back down, occasionally. It seems to happen more, if I fill the tank really close to the top, though I Have always been able to close it. One time, I forgot to push it down and twist clockwise to hold it in place, and it tripped the "check engine" light, as if the gas cap was loose. I had to disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes, re- attach the negative terminal and then run the bike several times, to get the light to turn off. Thanks to Triumphrat, for that bit of info. One other cool aspect of this cap, is that because it is so flat, magnetic tank bags lay a bit flatter against it. I have a Cortech, from 'Zilla.
