British Customs Air Injection Removal Kit Triumph Bonneville / SE / T100 / Thruxton / Scrambler / America / Speedmaster

Designed as an emissions control modification, the Triumph air injection system pumps air into the engine to force more fuel to burn inside the cylinder. While that may sound commendable, it comes at a cost. The downside of the system is that it creates a lean fueling condition that spikes exhaust temperature -- that encourages your header pipes to turn blue and makes low-speed throttle adjustments finicky at best.

This upgrade has all the components needed to replace the air injection system for a finished look and a cooler running engine. The British Customs Air Injection block-off bolts are machined from aluminum in a low profile design and coated black to match the head perfectly or left raw: either way they virtually disappear.

Features:

  • Reduction in Exhaust temperature
  • Discourage blue pipes
  • Reduces lean conditions

Kit Includes:

  • Low profile air injection plugs
  • Copper crush gaskets
  • Rubber nipples
  • Air box plug (for stock air box)

Unexpected issues
First of all, this does what I bought it to do, which was get rid of some of the choppiness in the throttle at low speeds.

I had two issues I wasn't prepared for, however. The first is that the threads are EXTREMELY tight going into the engine case. DON'T attempt to screw it in without some sort of grease/anti-seize compound.

Second: without changing my idle speed occasionally the bike would stall at reds. You need to adjust the idle up by 100-300rpm to keep this from happening. Just kind of annoying to have my bike needing to idle higher, not a huge deal.

Also, not going to count this one against it but you really need a 13mm step wrench. Trying to get the silver tube/bolts off without it is hell any other way.

Last thing, you can get all these parts from a hardware store if you know what you're looking for, for about $5.

Good product and easy to install
I recently purchased some Gasser Customs mufflers for my Bonneville T100 and the air injection was giving me a lot of trouble. So I bought these, removed the air injection and it made a world of difference. Still had to adjust the jets, but it stopped the backfiring. They are very easy to install and quality little products.

2016 Thruxton w/ Gasser Customs Mufflers
I purchased Gasser Customs exhaust and installed along with an Arrow 2-2 map, but my bike was excessivly crackling and popping on decel. I looked info a full custom map for 900 bucks, but after further research and talks with Gasser, I found that AI removal would be a much cheaper route to try before going full custom map. I was not disappointed. My bike does not crackle and pop at all. I'm so glad I didn't waste 900 bucks. I just wish the riding season was longer.

Necessary mod to your bike as long as CAFE doesn't hear about it.
The air injector system is meant to make flowers grow in your wake. But it makes your exhaust even hotter, turn blue, pops, and makes for a more jerky ride at low speeds, taking away from rider confidence.

This kit removes all those issues, though with a slightly greater cost to the environment. I, personally, miss the popping of the exhaust, but reducing temperatures and making for a smoother low speed ride is worth taking away some ear candy.

I chose this because the new exhaust i put on the bike had to much air being forced into it and would pop as loud as a gunshot while decelerating.

I wanted to stop the deceleration popping and snatchy throttle issues associated with the air injection on the Bonneville. This kit came in black which will match up to my T-100 Black nicely.

Cause Air injection is only present due to regulations. Has no benefit to the bikes performance, in fact can possibly hurt it.

Hey I was wondering how the engine ran after this was installed? I heard from someone that after installing this, you may need to run an aftermarket ecu because this may affect how the fuel injection works. Mostly wondering if this threw the check engine light after installation and if you noticed any difference in performance.

Thanks!

Daniel
