Bridgestone Battlax RS10 Rear Tires

The Bridgestone Battlax RS10 offers a higher level of grip over a wider temperature range are contributed by the use of compounds based on Bridgestone’s acclaimed VO2 racing slick tire derived from MotoGP, providing riders with superior handling and line-tracing precision. Bridgestone has engineered a special compound that offers enthusiast a sportier handling and more control with faster acceleration out of corners, enhanced steering response, greater line-holding precision in corners and confident braking stability. Multiple compounds are used in the construction of the RS10 giving it a faster warm-up.

The RS10 profile has been designed to give the tire a larger contact patch at mid to high lean angles. This improvement gives the rider much more precise control and confident in the corners.

Features:

  • High-performance sport radials optimized for high-grip and handling performance on dry surfaces
  • Bridgestone’s MotoGP development analysis was used to determine the placement of 3-D tread grooves to improve stability, grip and handling by optimizing block stiffness
  • Specially formulated rubber compounds front and rear offer sure grip as well as increased durability
  • Rear profile enables a larger contact patch for improved grip in mid to high lean angles
  • Cap and base on rear tire adds tread stiffness for stability when braking and accelerating
  • Rear tire has softer sidewall construction incorporated for better damping to improve handling

Great Track Day Tire
These were standard on my 2015 R1. They are great for track days, but you need to set the right pressures or they will eat themselves up. Bridgestone themselves don't say much about track day pressures, but I did see an image of a test that Bridgestone did in Japan.

* [Test conditions] Test location: Autopolis circuit, Japan (4.674km#; test vehicle: BMW S1000RR, tire size: 120/70ZR17 and 190/55ZR17; tire pressure: front 230 kPa, rear 250 kPa; rider: company test rider

Source:http://global-infrastructure-for-cdn.bridgestone.com/products/motorcycle_tires/products/special/rs10/index.html

Front 230kPa = 33.3587
Rear 250kPa = 36.2594

I use those pressures, I get several track days out of them with even wear, and the traction is fantastic. I like them so much that I keep buying them. Imo, they offer more traction than a Q3. Bottom line is that they may not be suited for street riders who value mileage over traction, but they are great for people like me who prioritize traction over wear.

Last season I did ruin a set of RS10's #the rear) by running lower pressures which are typical of tires like a Dunlop Q3, after a prominent local suspension guru affiliated with my track day organization suggested that I run 32/32.

Next Moto Champion just did an interview with Bridgestone engineering manager, T.J. Tennent. Some of you guys may find it interesting.

Bad Mother
I've been riding street/canyons for 11 years and road racing tracks for 10, I've never seen a tire so versatile as this one. It grips cold, and just gets better and better the more you beat on it. I also feel like you could enter an AMA race with these and spank mothers.

Spend More Money on Tires!
I ride my Ducati 1098 at New Jersey Motorsports Park every other weekend. I have used all sorts of different tires trying to figure out which I like the best. I tried the Bridgestones because of cost. I regularly ride Pirelli Super Corsa's, and get about 5 track days out of the rear. I attempted the Bridgestone's in order to save a little cash, it was a bad idea. At first the tires were ok, they just felt a little slippery. I went a session just to warm them up and break them in. By the afternoon I was at full pace. The tires stuck decently, holding good lines and I really thought they were a good replacement. By my fifth session I was getting uncomfortable. The back started to slide a bit more in the rear on turn exits and I was losing confidence in the bike and the tires. I pulled off the track early to head back to the truck and check out my pressures. It almost felt as if I was riding with a flat.

I burned through the tire in less than 100 miles at a race pace using the suggested pressures that Bridgestone sets. I am ordering my old set of tires and wont be attempting these again. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND BUY A BETTER TIRE!

Grip like Q3s, but with half the life.
I put a 200/55 set on my '12 CBR1000RR that sees track use only. My friend just purchased a '15 R1 that comes with these same tires OEM.
Both sets of tires were new, spooned mine on in the AM. We both run expert, with similar lap times. In his case, he is hard on the gas leaving turns, and managed to almost completely wear through the tire after only 4 sessions, and slowed considerably to make it through the rest of the track day.
I'm the opposite and am very easy on tires, I manage to squeeze 4-5 track days out of tires.
I'll be lucky to see 2 days out of these.
They do everything well, I like their neutral profile, they communicate well, they slide predictably, but they wear out faster than anything on the track.
Despite being constructed very differently than Dunlop Q3's - these being soft all around, non stiff carcass, complete opposite the Q3's, they behave the same to me on the track.
Same grip, feel, etc. I just dislike the profile of Q3's.
On the other hand, the Dunlop's wear much, much better, with providing possibly even more grip.
This makes it hard to recommend these. While I like the profile of the RS10 over the Q3 and ran a faster lap time because of it, I don't think it's worth twice the price - over time.

I have another set I'll use, but I don't think I'll buy another set of these.

Too soft to be practical
Ran these for one track day, cause thats how long they lasted, sticky as, but way too soft. Id still prefer these over Q3s, way more grip and they are designed for the track.

Excellent
The tires offer great grip, take little to no time to warm up. The only thing is they are very soft, thus wear quickly. But the increased grip is worth it.

Incredibly sticky but does not last.
These are some of the stickiest street tires I have ever been on but they dont last long at all. Would recommend for aggressive riding or a track day but not for everyday around town. Because they aren't dual compound the middle wears super quick during day to day riding, would rather have a q3 for that.

Great track tire
I was very impressed with my new RS10s at the track. I'm not a pro rider by any means, but I use up the entire tread surface front and rear. I had plenty of grip and feedback - more than the OE Rosso Corsas anyway - which I also liked. The front gave me a lot of confidence, so I was trail braking more with these tires than the OE ones. My bike is pretty easy on tires, and the local track surface isn't too coarse, so based on the first full day I would expect to get at least 3 or 4 track days on the rear. I have not ridden much on the street yet, but they grip well cold and ride reasonably well - similar to the Rosso Corsas. I have not ridden them in the wet. I plan to try Michelin's Power Supersport Evo tire next.

Excellent choice for a Ducati 848 EVO
Picked these up thinking I'd run them at a new, unfamiliar track and then get rid of them. Instead I got weathered out and ended up running them for a few sessions in the A group at Willow Springs International. They worked very well with my Ducati. I could carry a lot of speed on turn entry, and completion of the turn seems every bit as good as any other tire I've run. The rear tire wear a little higher than what I've observed with the Pirelli Supercorsa SP V2, even with careful monitoring of the tire pressure, but the "Big Track" is really tough on tires and I expect I could get two more track days out of it. I thought I'd be replacing them after one track day with some Pirellis, but as a total package they work really well and I'll be taking them to Laguna Seca. Overall the Bridgestones seem close enough to the benchmark SP V2 tires, and are a great choice for a middleweight or smaller displacement bike.
