New, not necessairly improved
I just completed a motorcycle trip with a couple of friends that took 24 days and covered 7630 miles and 21 states. I started with a new set of Battlax A40 tires front and rear as they are touted by Bridgestone to have improved wear over the OEM tires on my DL1000. The OEM tires, Bridgestone Battle Wings, were good for 7500 miles, the new improved A-40 rear tire was to the wear bars at 6300 miles resulting me buying a new rear tire in Rapid City, SD at an inflated price. Wet traction and grip both were fine but at the cost of the tire, tread life doesn't measure up so for that reason, I can't recommend this tire.

Decent Mileage at the Expense of Everything Else
I've had these tires on my 2014 DL650 for a little over 7.5K miles. Roughly 6k of that was a two week trip to the West coast including lots of interstate miles at or near triple digit temperatures. I still have a few 32nds to go before the rear is at the wear bars so I guess I'd say the mileage isn't bad. But considering the price it isn't great, either. Front still looks new. Dry traction was good, wet traction excellent.

My biggest issue with the tires comes from, I think, the stiffness of the carcass. They wander, follow grooves and the front seems to almost chatter over rough pavement. The bike definitely doesn't feel as planted as it did with the Metzler Tourance tires I had previous to these. These are also, unsurprisingly, terrible on gravel or any loose surface. They are pretty strictly a (paved) street tire.

Because of the relatively high price and the lack of versatility in these tires, I can't recommend them.

Well I like them just fine
Tl;DR - run high psi. Have someone else put them on. Stay out of sand and mud.
Would recommend.

I bought these to replace the worn out stock battlewings on my Super Tenere. I rode them around town for about 150 miles, then left on an 11k mile trip. They performed great all over the continent. I went DC, Tampa, Houston, Colorado, Minnesota, and up to Newfoundland.

Good: Wet and dry grip are great. It was misty when I started, and I scrubbed them all the way in on skyline drive with a fully loaded bike. They didn't feel squirrely or scary on wet roads or in pouring rain. I also didn't notice the TCS light coming on, so there was more room to push.

Tread life for me was awesome. I did run pretty high pressures, though (42/40). I think running them at lower pressures might contribute to the bad experience of other reviewers.

Not so good: The bead is SUPER STIFF. If you're putting on your own tires, be ready to go to the dictionary for some new 4-letter words. Or just get out your heat gun and use lots of lube.

Non-pavement: I ended up riding in some sandy spots in Florida and what I thought was a nice dirt road between two farms in Kansas. The Florida stuff went ok, even though sand is not much fun on an unfamiliar road on a fully loaded bike. The one in Kansas helped put my bike down for a nap, but it was probably as much my inexperience as anything else.
Gravel and hard-packed dirt are not an issue. No, they're not TKC80s, but I wanted a tire that I wouldn't have to replace half way through my trip. They did handle plenty of poorly maintained roads without issue. Would a PR4 have done pretty much the same thing? Maybe.I don't think I wouldn't have gotten nearly as far down those sandy roads as I did, though.

Why did you choose this?
RevZilla Store
I chose the A40 tires to replace the OEM Battle Wings on my V-Strom 1000 because they are advertised to have better life and wet road capabilities than the OEM.
