A safer way to fill/drain a gas tank
Too many times I have tasted gas when using a hardware store siphon hose, so when I saw this hose reviewed in one of the recent major cycle magazines, I bought one from Zilla. Two sizes are available, so I bought the narrower 3/8" version, because it would fit past the guard inside the filler hole, with no problem. It worked great for draining the gas from my '09 Triumph Bonneville, so I could remove the tank to check the valve clearances. Just push the end of the hose (with the valve in it) to the lowest part of the tank possible, and shake the hose up and down at the fuel tank filler hole to get the gas moving. It has a one way valve, so gravity cannot push the gas back into the tank. Since the one way valve keeps the gas from returning to the tank, I also tried sucking at the other end of the hose, the old fashioned way. It didn't seem any faster than the way the hose was intended to be used. The only drawbacks that I can see are that the 3/8" valve is made of plastic, instead of stainless steel or brass. (this is why I took away one star) It probably wouldn't last as long as the brass 1/2" version. The other reason is that repeated use could leave behind varnish deposits in the valve to gum it up. Another plus is that there is a strainer built in, to filter debris that may be in the bottom of the tank. Rolled up, it measures about 1-3/8"x 8", or 35x 200mm at its widest point. the valve/filter assembly is a little stiff to roll it any tighter.

Must have if you're stranded and need to borrow gas from a friend

Taking a trip I'm sure between the 6 of us someone is going to need some extra fuel from a tank. One of those must have thing in the kit, that way I don't need it...

I had a few instances of gas pumps over filling my tank. I needed something I could keep in my backpack in case future situations arise.
