Bell Star Pace Helmet

The latest generation of a helmet that started a safety revolution in motorsports, the Bell Star Helmet has been reborn to serve the two wheeled masses with even greater comfort, performance and protection. Redesigned with a smaller profile for a more refined fit and tuned specifically for the upright riding position, the Bell Star combines the comfort and riding characteristics of a touring helmet with race-bred aerodynamics and performance.

FIT: The Bell Star has a narrow neck roll opening and snug cheekpads to occlude noise and to mitigate movement at high speeds. These padded elements will conform to your unique features by a break in margin up to 20% over time as the foam compresses.

STREETVIEW: The Star features two unique profile shapes for two distinctly different types of riding. The Raceview profile used on the Pro Star and Race Star uses an orientation specifically optimized for a tucked, more compact position. Conversely, the Streetview profile used for the Star is designed for a more upright, sport or touring position.

PANOVISION VIEWPORT:  No matter what or how you ride, one factor remains constant: the need for maximum visibility. Whether racing or going on a simple ride in the mountains, the ability to make safe headchecks and see obstacles clearly is critical. The Panovision viewport in the Star offers riders additional vertical and lateral visibility over the previous Star and more traditional viewports. This allows the rider to see better in a tight  or tucked position and make saferlane changes and head-checks.

EYEWEAR COMPATIBLE: Using prescription glasses or a preferred pair of shades is now possible with eyewear arm pockets woven right into the interior liner

X-STATIC LINER: A leader in antimicrobial fabric technology, X-Static material is clinically-proven to provide bacteria and odor protection throughout the life of the liner. X-Static fibers are permanently bonded with a layer of 99.9% pure metallic silver. This silver layer is the key to X-Static’s powerful antimicrobial properties, as it creates an ionic shield that permanently inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi. Fabrics made with X-Static fibers are flexible, with the natural look and feel of traditional textiles, while offering all the benefits of pure silver.

TRI-MATRIX COMPOSITE SHELL: A proprietary mix of Aramid, carbon fiber, and fiberglass delivers all the strength of carbon fiber in a more budget-protecting package. Woven synthetic fibers have long been proven to be some of the most practical solutions where lightweight strength is required. Bell's Tri-Matrix shell utilizes the combined power and superior characteristics of these race-proven synthetics, offering unmatched strength and durability.

Features:

  • Tri-Matrix Composite Shell
  • X-Static Liner
  • Eyewear compatible
  • Streetview profile
  • 6 EPS and 5 shell sizes
  • Meets or exceeds Snell M2015 and DOT certifications

Rising Star
Anthony nailed the preview of the 2016 Bell Star helmet. I received my Star this week, and I love the fit and finish. Paint and graphics are aggressive - which was a selling point for me. It is a bit noisy (although most of us wear hearing protection anyways), but not overly noisy. Although the Star was not optimized for the tuck position, it fells very neutral at 130+. It certainly is one of the best helmets I have owned.

Kudos to Bell and Revzilla!

Great helmet!
I have only had this helmet for about a week, so I'll be posting another review down the road, but so far I absolutely love it! I got the black with red paint scheme and it looks absolutely phenomenal. So, I'm gonna break it down piece by piece, good and bad what I've noticed about this helmet.

Comfort: Once this thing is properly on my head it fits beautifully. I was right in between sizes so I ordered a size up, good call on my part. These things run a little small so a size up if you are in between is recommended. The padding is comfortable and cool, and I love the way my ears have no pressure points on them at all (I have to jiggle the helmet to get my ear seated correctly) something my old helmet didn't do. The seal around the my neck is awesome, very comfy, the liner does a great job, and I keep pretty much full range of motion with my head. I do wish the chin guard came back a bit more, as it doesn't block wind as well as I'd like. My one grievance is that when I put the helmet on, there are two points in the bottom of the shell that scratch my temples pretty good. Once it's on though I don't feel them.

Style: Pictures do this thing no justice. Out of the box, the red is much more vibrant and pops much more than in pictures. The spoiler on the back is very well placed and shaped, giving the helmet a very agressive look. The helmet also has indentations and grooves you can't see in pictures for airflow over the shell, and it looks mean. Now, this helmet is biiiiiiiiig. Like, huge. I got an XL and this shell wipes the floor with my last XL helmet. I just assume thats extra padding inside, so they needed a bigger shell, but it's definitely noticable how big it is, but it's still incredibly light. All the vent inlets and outlets are very clean and well thought out, none jump out and scream, "Hey! I'm a vent! Look at me!"
The one complaint style wise, is the massive BELL logos in the most tacky of places.. I know they want to advertise but it honestly ruins the look of the paint scheme.

Airflow: Boy does this thing breathe! I can't say a while lot other than this thing sends air through it like that's it's job. My head often gets cold when I leave them all open, so I close them up and the helmet just seals up, and I warm up again. The vent levers are somewhat difficult to find with a gloved hand, and getting that it's such a big helmet reaching to the top top open the vents there is slightly awkward, but I've gotten used to it.

Vision: This helmet gives you and enormous sight picture. The face shield is very very tall and wide, I actually can't even see the sides of the helmet while looking straight ahead. The notches in the sides of the helmet do make a difference head checking, making it much nicer and easier to see what's coming up behind me. Very well done.

Noise: Now, I am only used to louder helmets, and I usually ride with headphones (which are kind of a pain to keep in while putting this helmet on) so I may not have the best advice, but it is quite a bit quieter than my last helmet, a lot less wind noise.

Over all this helmet was and awesome buy and I plan to keep it for a very very long time. Hope this helps!!

Great helmet
This is my first Bell helmet. I have owned most of the helmets in this price range and except for a flip down dark lens this helmet has it all. The first thing I noticed about this helmet, besides the fit, is the air flow and lack of buffeting. You get a lot of air flowing through this helmet if you want it and it is tuned to the air better than any helmet I have ever owned. At highway speeds it is stable and does not move with the wind. I love the paint, the comfort is great and it's stylish. Love it!

Great helmet

The only thing that I was a little concerned about was the fact that the helmet has not mid opening, its either closed completely or open completely.

Nice
Nice helmet from Bell. This is my first new helmet after owning my last helmet for 10+ years. The style is awesome with the taper from front-to-back. The visibility is great from side-to-side and the upper view from the visor but I do find the lower visibility much shorter than my last helmet. This isn't a big deal because I often know how fast I'm going and what gear I'm in by sound/feel, but if I need to look at the dash, it takes a good head nod down to do that. Air flow is great, and sound is definitely on the quiet side especially with the visor all the way down.

A few gripes, the underchin strap sits much closer to my neck crease which means, with my adams apple, makes it slightly uncomfortable in some situations. Because the visor swing is either all the way up or down just before lock/click, I've found my riding glove getting pinched between the visor and the helmet when closing the visor before locking it down. I'm sure my technique here will conform to this over time tho. The rear spoiler is more or less put on with 3M tape and I foresee this coming lose over time especially in different weather conditions. The sunglasses 'groove' sits very high up which makes my smaller helmet use sunglasses a little uncomfortable or useless unless my head is pointed down.

Really nice helmet overall and I'm looking forward to getting the transition visor once it becomes available. I have not taken the helmet to the track yet so I have no input on this at speed.

Bell Star Has Arrived!
Long time Arai user (not exclusive, but almost, since 1982), oval head shape. I bought a Bell Star in 1986, and it was markedly inferior to the F1 Arai of the day (fit was round, interior was rough, helmet was very heavy). Things have changed. This helmet has an intermediate oval fit (much like the Arai), the interior is plush (much like the Arai), and despite it being a physically larger helmet than the Arai (measured in diameter), it doesn't feel heavier. Money matters, and as much as I prefer the Arai brand, the Bell Star, regardless of the designation (and graphics affect the cost significantly), is a legitimate option. The helmet fits, it's comfortable, and it has no obvious flaws. Choice is yours. I like it.

Disappointed
Purchased this helmet for the transitions shield only to find it is not available until fall. Thinking of returning the helmet. Wish I knew the shield was not available as I wouldn't have purchased the helmet. Don't think I will purchase another Bell. Only pinlock available is clear. Bell could have included a pinlock shield and if they wanted to impress their customers could have included the transitions shield and made their customers feel they were appreciated. Extremely disappointed in Bell Helmets.
