Bell MX-9 ADV Blockade Helmet

Born from Bell's extensive and legendary experience, the Bell MX-9 Helmet blends the best of their dirt and street knowledge into a feature packed middleweight ADV helmet. Equally at home on the street as it is in the dirt, the MX-9 panders to those riders who are out there pushing boundaries and not stopping when the road ends and the trail begins.

The lightweight polycarbonate shell comes in three different sizes, mitigating bulk and providing a more comfortable fit. Bell's velocity-flow ventilation system keeps air flowing, forcing fresh air in and hot moist air out, while the removable and washable liner and cheek pads ensures you can keep sweat and bacteria build up at bay.

The MX-9 ADV helmet can also transform into a more streetable helmet by removing the peak visor. Included side pods replace the visor where it mounts to the helmet, giving you sleek top-gun styling. When you hit the dirt and need the added protection of a pair of goggles, simply flip up the shield and throw 'em on. The MX-9 is designed to work with any dirt goggle out there.

Truly a go-anywhere, do-anything helmet, the Bell MX-9 Adventure helmet fills a much needed gap in the market and is perfect for pros and beginners alike.

Bell MX9 ADV Blockade Helmet
Bought this helmet as a compromise.I normally wear a Shoei RF1200 for riding my ST, but wanted a DS helmet for when I ride places like the WABDR and such. Not really interested in it as a touring helmet. Recently bought a dirt bike to ride single track, as my Super Tenere is just too big to ride some of the forest trails I go to. I figured the Bell MX9 would be a good crossover.
I like goggles when I ride dirt on any bike. Too much dust gets under the visor and sunglasses, so goggles are a must. You can wear goggles with this helmet and still close your visor (nice touch).
Helmet fits pretty true to size. No pressure points that I could tell. Kind of noisy but in my experience all of the DS style helmets are a bit noisy. It's very light weight! I was impressed.
It initially made me feel like Gazoo (cartoon character from back in the day#, but it really isn't all that huge. certainly better than the other bargain priced DS helmets out there.
The peak is adjustable in two positions. Its not perfect but it does the job better than nothing. The peak does cause a bit of buffeting at freeway speeds. HOWEVER... You can simply take the peak off, add 2 little spacers to the visor, and its a touring helmet. Pretty sweet.
Venting is better than my Shoei but not as good as a regular dirt helmet. So when you're working hard, and its hot, and no wind, you're gonna sweat. On that note the liner wicks pretty decent. I literally had seat dripping off the bottoms of my cheek pads #we were riding some pretty rocky, technical single track in 90+ degrees with high humidity#. Never got so uncomfortable I felt that I HAD to remove my helmet.
.I had an minor off while riding some trails. Bounced/scraped the back of my head on the gravel. Didn't rattle my brains and the helmet came back with minor scratches. So protection I would say is good, but the "bits" on it #like the peak and fasteners) are a little flimsy. The paint on the peak flaked off the second time I used it. I would recommend a solid color to prevent that. It also drops the price of the helmet. The graphics just aren't my thing, and I really don't care about that stuff. Overall build quality is just okay. Not super cheap, but the peak and visor are not the best built I have seen. It is what it is. As the Revzilla review says it's a nice helmet at a reasonable price. I recommend.

Actually, I'm returning this lid for 2 reasons.No. 1, the faceguard and cheek pads are so tight I'm afraid it will induce migraines. The actual helmet size was fine . The real deal breaker though, was the padding's failure to accommodate my glasses. It would be nice if your reviews would address this, as I'm sure many others have similar concerns.

Great helmet for the money
Been a while since I've purchased a new "street" helmet. It is noisey on the highway but I generally where noise cancelling ear buds when I ride.
Fit is perfect for me. I measured on the high side of a medium range, according to the sizing chart. I have slightly narrow & long cranium; finally found a helmet for my head shape. Very comfy.
I was disappointed when I opened it and found that it was Made in China. I'm trying to avoid Chinese products.
The design and quality is very good I must say. Hardwear and lense quality are first rate. #i purchased the optional smoke lense as well#
To sum it up; I do recommend the helmet.

Value!
This is what you get. Great Brand, making a nice Helmet with a nice style and quite comfy I must say which is simply a Bargain!!!! cheaper than many other brands with a percived lower quality. Bell Have been making great helmets for ages and this one is not the exception although is on the price low range.
To add: I installed a Senna Intercom Unit and it was very easy for me to find room for all the cables and parts and it has a very nice space for your ears. Friends with AVG Helmets of a price higer than 3 times this one has admire it for that, you feel air in your ears and they aren´t compressed. I think this one was such a good choice!

Great helmet for the price
I measured at the big side of the XL size chart and rolled the dice. Seemed tight at first but actually fits great now after a few weeks of use. I had no issues installing a Sena 20s comm. My only gripe is the helmet isn't the most eyeglass friendly and only comes with a clear shield, with tinted shields costing $35+. Bottom line, I think it is the best DS/Adv helmet south of $200 (got mine when it was on sale at $123).

Great helmet for the price!
A very nice in between helmet, meaning I use it on my adventure bikes on the street and trails. Can use with goggles or flip down visor. Great side vision. Not sure about air flow as I have not been through a summer with it. Seems more noisy than my Arai but not a deal breaker. Great price and great overall look and quality.

Nice helmet at a great sale price
I bought this for my wife, for dual sport riding. The sizing was spot on, with just a little snugness in the cheek pads.

In the sub $200 range it came down to this or the AFX. I have owned many Bell helmets and all were well made. Maybe not the absolute nicest but well made and good fit/finish. The AFX41 looks very badass, but there were many negative reviews and I didn't want to risk wasting $200.

Does dirt get under lense?
A shopper on Feb 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I only rode with it one time as the fit was wrong for me. And this was also the first time riding with an ADV helmet too. There was a lot of air coming in under the chin bar which as I’ve found out with my later purchase of a Shoei X-2 Hornet ADV helmet, is normal for ADV helmets. I didn’t go in the dirt when I rode with this Bell so no dirt got under the lens during my ride. However, I think if you were on a dusty ride, with the amount of air that comes in under the chin bar, that some dirt would get onto the inside of the lens. Enter an answer to this question.
Has anybody found a chin curtain or skirt compatible with this helmet to minimize air intake up the helmet?
Howard C on Apr 14, 2017
What is the difference between barricade and blockout helmets?

BEST ANSWER: Peak is mostly gray with graphics that match helmet body. Enjoying mine immensely. ...
When will this helmet be out on the market ??
A shopper on Feb 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I pre-ordered my helmet on February 3, 2015 and I was told that the estimated ship date would be early March so I'm assuming early March is when it will be available on the market.
