A true overland tyre
We've fitted these tyres to our bikes and took them from Europe through Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, India, Myanmar and Thailand. With 25,000 of the most gruelling kilometres under their belts, most of which under insane conditions, they outperformed Heidenau K60 and K60 Scouts, Conti TKC70, TKC80, Michelin 63, Metzler Tourance, Michelin Anakee 3 in every respect. The Avons have more grip and last longer! We have done a series of reports on them during our record setting around the world tour. See earth-roamers.blogspot.com and check under the motorcycles tab.

Great Upgrade
I bought these to replace the spent tires on my V-Strom DL1000, and what a difference they made from the stock tires that were on there. Even without being broken in the tires felt like they had more grip and leaning in to the corners was now effortless, even more so over the stock ones when they were new. The grip reminds me of a decent sportbike tire and holds well through corners, so much so that I am now taking corners faster than before.

Had a chance to test them in wet roads and they felt just as sure footed as when the roads were dry. The sipes and tread aided in clearing of the water with not issues.

Only had the chance to get them on dirt for a few miles; the roads were a mixture of hardpack, loose, and some gravel mixed in. They handled all surfaces equally well and I found them some what hard to break all the way loose and when I was able to it was not for very long.

Overall a very good tire that makes a decent replacement that will allow for decent usage off-road on easier hardpack and loose trails with gravel and a great option for on tarmac grip that has no signs of vibration from the tread pattern. I would also feel comfortable in stating it to be an 85%/15% tire.

Perfect!
Exactly what I wanted! Living in the mountains almost everything except the highways are not paved, so I needed an 85/15 dual sport that is good on roads and confident off of them. These Avons did not disappoint.

My previous two sets were Pirelli Scorpion Trails, and these are several times more dirt capable while taking a slight hit to on-road performance. The Pirellis were definitely stickier, but they barely lived 3000 miles each set, and were not that great off pavement. If I dragged knees I might care, but I don't. I will note a barely perceptible vibration at higher speeds, but very insignificant.

First ride impressions:
Soft/wet dirt grip very good
Gravel/loose rocks very good
Cornering still good
Braking still good

Overall, good looking & good performing 85/15 tire at a good price!

WHoooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Running these on my Triumph Scrambler after making the switch from the stock Bridgestone Trailwings.

Firstly...i'm a track enthusiast---and have a dedicated Triumph Speed Triple track bike. The Scrambler is my slow bike. It should, in theory, keep me from riding like a jerk as it's a big, dopey, heavy, slow bike AND i live in Chicago where naked litre bikes just don't make sense. NOPE...didn't work and I ride the Scrambler like i stole...scraping pegs and using every bit of tire i have--on and off road.

The tires: awesome stickiness and feedback from the road. Gone are vibrations from the nobbier and more off-road oriented Trailwings. Also gone, though...is the off-grip. I guess the tires are 80-20 on-off road? That's accurate. Tight and loose packed gravel roads are fine...but sand?! FAAAGETTABBBOUUTTTITT. Absolutely ZERO sand traction. Don't even think about it unless you have some there to help tow you out. As far as rain is concerned...I rode the Blue Ridge parkway after a heavy rain at speeds of about 80mph and never questioned the grip. Get nice a sticky pretty quick. Same in the city...rain or shine, the tires stay on the road. Super impressed.

Mileage:Have put about 6k on them in the last 3 month and there isn't even a flat stop. This might be different on a heavier bike...but my experience with my 500lbs + bike has been good.

Great Tire
Replaced an awful pair of shinko tires with these; what a difference! The grip on and off road is great! I'm a daily commuter in the PNW; these hold very well in wet conditions. Cost is about what others brands in the same category of 80/20 go for, so not stellar value. Not enough time to comment on durability, but I've heard good things. We'll see!

fantastic
Ive used numerous tires on my 06 and 14 BMW R1200GS. These are the best 85/15 tires I've used. What I wanted to add is that they don't wander at all on grooved pavement or black snakes! Rock solid. I've got 1500 miles on them and they don't seem to have any wear on them at all.

I'd repeat this tire
I logged onto Revzilla to shop for a front tire for my 2012 Suzuki V-Strom that I ride basically year-round in Virginia. I stopped here to post a review of the rear Avon Trailrider - with which I have gotten 10,000 miles and counting. For me they are not the longest wearing rear tire (I get 12 - 15K on a rear usually). Thus I rated them as "average" (an honest 3 stars) but most riders would go goo-goo for a rear tire that lasts 10K. Your results may vary. I'll note too that I ride a lot of two-lane state routes, at less than highway speeds - which keeps things cooler and wearing longer than average. And I use Ride-on sealant which stretches the tread life. But, in short time, I'll have the final verdict, as I see about 1,000 miles left on the rear tire. It has done very well. As things had it, this was my winter tire. It handled the cold well. The dual compound rear was very obvious with a distinct "shoulder" difference in wear. Cornering was very, very good, especially for a tire with deep grooves and large lugs (though the grooves near the sidewall are not as deep as the others I've used - Dunlop, Pirelli, Heidenau). Avon did something right with this tire, between the silica rubber, tread design, and sipes. The ride is excellent for what we call a 85/15 tire or so. I had it on lose snow, wet snow, gravel, dirt, very little mud and a whole lot of fair or better quality asphalt in a variety of feezing / wet / dry / warm / rainy weather. Mud was the worst, but, it did very well on gravel which was my biggest concern. The snow was not ideal, but, I think an ATV is best for snow ;)
I am looking to replace my Heidenau front (that wore like iron) with the Trailrider since they seem to be great tire set for a V-Strom. I noticed a better price now too - bonus.

Grippy on pavement
The Avon Trailrider tires are outstanding. Great grip on the pavement, quiet, and great stability. Currently these tires are on a Triumph Bonneville SE and fit great and really improve the overall ride. I will purchase Avon tires again. Also, revzilla delivers across the board, with customer service and really quick shipping.

Pleasently suprised with this product, a real 'Sleeper' in performance!
I commute 365 a year, hot shoe on the back roads, and do a fair amount of dirt (anything you can drive a 2wd p.u. over) on my '15 DL 650. Aprox 12 ~ 20 k miles a year.
In the past my 'Go To' tire choices have been the Anakee 2's and the original Tourance's.
I get 10+k/miles out of the 2's and 12+ out of the Tourance's.
I slip around a bit with the Tourance's so the outright performance vote goes to the Anakees.
Unfortunately, they are now out of production.
This brings me to the AV54's...
I have put about 1k miles on them so far and,
I'M IMPRESSED with this tire's overall performance, very stable & linear road performance, especially in the wet ( o.k., they're not PR-4's, but...), quite acceptable & predictable in 'graded dirt' conditions for their class & if they deliver the tread wear that I expect, I have likely found my new 'Go To' 80/20 choice!

Great Tire
If you are like a lot of us adventure riders that spend more time on the street than you'd care to admit, these are a great tire. It seems like a street tire that has genuinely tried to adapt itself to some light off-road work with its tread pattern. Unless I knew I was doing hard core off-road, I would definitely use this tire to cover significant mileage. On pavement it just cranks. Noise is low, tire is very smooth.

Great looking British tires for a British Triumph Tiger 800, why not? I've had great results with Avons before with a Triumph Bonneville. So here I go again!

Needed new tires and never had Avons before. Thought I'd try them.
Don H on Jan 26, 2016
I was at home on Heidenau K76, but, each year tire companies put up something with tempting new compounds and designs, so I figured I'd try. Plus, they advertise building tires for the UK climate, and I figure Virginia (USA) weather is about the same. I ride year-round, over mostly asphalt, with some gravel and hard-pan. A 90/10 tire should work.

What is the mileage expectations with this new tire compared to the original Avon Distanzas?
A shopper on Dec 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Avon engineers estimate the mileage to be very similar to Distanzia, perhaps 5-10% increase depending on application. The grip, stability and handling of the TrailRider is night and day better than Distanzia.
There are some Avon long distance riders have achieve 15,500 on the rear TrailRider and the front is still going strong.
what is the speed rating in this tire?
A shopper on Sep 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It depends on which tire you pick. They are rated S,H,V,W and now Z depending on the size.
Can the 110/80-18 58S TL be used on the front? It is listed as a rear tire.
