Arai XD-4 Helmet

The Arai XD4 is world renowned for being one of the best ADV touring helmets on the market and one of the few that achieves a Snell safety rating. The XD4 incorporates all of the same great qualities found in Arai's other helmets including the comfort liner and cheek pads that feature 5mm peel-away pads that allow riders to tailor the fit. The shell of the Arai XD4 Helmet has also been aerodynamically tuned and, in concert with the removable floating peak, funnels air into the redesigned vents, improving overall ventilation and mitigating buffeting at speed.

The XD-4 is the helmet of choice for many hardcore ADV enthusiasts and sets an industry standard for comfort, quality and safety.

  • Comfort headliner, with micro fitting 5mm peel away temple pads
  • Fully removable/replaceable/washable Interior: Comfort head liner, Cheek pads, Chinstrap covers
  • Dry-Cool technology keeps you dry and cool for greater comfort
  • FCS (Facial Contour Support) cheek pad design with a 5mm peel away layer
  • Improved shell shape for better aerodynamic stability at higher street speeds
  • Exhaust ports added to the top diffuser vents
  • Chin vent with more intake ports
  • Larger sculpted side cowl vents improve ventilation
  • Snell M2015 approved

I have a Corsair-Silver, and XD-3-Silver, and an XD4-Flare. I have considered purchasing other Adventure Helmet brand however Arai continually has the highest ratings in comfort and air circulations. I"ve ridden thousands of miles with multiple brands of helmets and my Arai is the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. I like the solid black satin because it goes with everything.

Your excellent gear guide reviews

I consider my helmet the most important piece of equipment I have. I love the XD! Very comfortable and rich with safety features. It is pricey but it is truly a step above in quality and safety and comfort. I also bought one for my husband and he loves his as well.
Linda T on Aug 10, 2017
The best dual sport helmet..period. You've tried the rest now buy the best! I've owned two over the years and they are amazing. Eye port could be a little bigger for goggle use but its not a deal breaker.

i crashed in this helmet once already, leaving it really rashed. need a new one.
Erick F on Oct 15, 2016
Best helmet out there. I did Africa for 33 days and wouldn't buy any other product.
Christopher M on Sep 28, 2016
If you have a $100 head, buy a $100 helmet. Arai doesn't make any of those, and for good reason. Quality products cost a little more.
Jason H on Sep 19, 2016
Style, performance, and safety... this helmet packs all three into a reasonably priced package. Great on road, even better for mixed adventure situations. Only downside is a bit of excessive noise at freeway speeds.
Troy B on Sep 9, 2016
Love Arai helmets fit and comfort, 4th one I've owned

I am replacing Arai XD-3 Helment I have worn eight years with almost 100000 miles. This will be my first XD4 I have had two XD3.
Raymond B on Jul 30, 2016
I have an XD-3 that fit really good and protected my head when I needed it. Why change that? I look forward to trying an XD-4.
Brian Paul R on Jul 12, 2016
Best all around helmet with good air flow
Dirk H on Jul 7, 2016
Because this helmet, besides providing top notch safety is also airy, comfortable and your eyeglasses slide in smoothly and stay in place with pressure points.

Arai? Because it's the highest rated on oh... only EVERY WEBSITE!!! White? Because it's highly visible and matches every bike so I can buy like eight(teen) more!

Can you install a SENA 20S using the clamp bracket or do you need to use velcro?
A C on Jun 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The clamp works fine. I've had 2 XD4's with the Sena 20S and no probe installing with the clamp on either one.
My head is exactly 23 inches, which accrding to the size chart, is right between the M and L. Which size should I buy?
A shopper on Aug 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I was in the same position and purchased a medium, I had to return it for a large. It fit my head but so tightly that it gave me a headache after 5 minutes of wearing it in my living room. The large fits great for me.
I am looking at getting the XD4 but I have one major concern the ability to clean bug guts from the vents. On most of the videos it shows the rear vent removal but nothing about the front which is where most of the bugs hit. My current helmet is a Schuberth C3 and I have found some quarter sized bugs in the top vent which is easy to clean out. Thanks in advance!

Fine here you go revzilla computer "???????"
A shopper on May 28, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Take the liner out and rinse the whole helmet.
I have to wear eyeglasses when riding, day or night. Does this helmet have eyeglass channels built in to the liner to allow for easy eye glass placement? With my current helmet, I had to remove the cheek pieces and basically "restuff" the material to allow for my glasses to slide in easily.
A shopper on Aug 25, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I don't ride with glasses but I just put the helmet on and then slipped on both a pair of wire frame then a pair of horn rimmed reading glasses and both felt fine. There is a channel between the pads that allows for comfortable movement of the frames with no pressure. There is also plenty of clearance when the shield is down.
Are the visor and face shiel included with the XD4 helmet or do I need to purchase one or both of these separately?
A shopper on Oct 7, 2013
RE: Arai xd4. My monitor shows little difference between the "Pearl Black" and the "Frost Black." Can I assume pearl means 'gloss' and frost means 'matte?'
mike c on Feb 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Im no expert but I do own both color variations in different array helmets. Yes the "frost black" has more of a 'matte' style finish with little depth to the color, while the pearl black could be considered 'gloss', it has lot more depth to the black. Bold and shiny, flat and low luster... Ive got the flat and low luster "frost black" and love it. Hope that helps.
is xd4 pin lock ready or do I have to drop more money on a new shield?
A shopper on Sep 30, 2012
BEST ANSWER: It is NOT pinlock ready, however, the airflow is so great in this helmet that I have found it to be less of an issue than my Signet-Q. I immediately purchased a pinlock ready visor and insert, but now that I think of it have never needed to use it.
Do you recommend this helmet for naked bike like Kawasaki Z800? Please advise, thanks
A shopper on Apr 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I ride BMW G650GS, which has minimal wind protection.
You "feel" the visor at higher speeds, but I rode for and hour at 80MPH no problem. I got used to it.
That being said, I realized that I couldn't live without the visor.
There is a lot of sunshine here and the beak helps to see better in traffic.
You stop on intersection, sun blinds you - no problem. Little move of your head and you can see again.
I will gladly pay the "penalty" of some extra air resistance.
Heck, my neck muscles will probably grow. ;)
What makes this better than the Shoei DS Hornet?
A shopper on Feb 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I do not have any experience with the Shoei DS. but I do have four years of wearing the Aria XD-4. I have been to several different brands helmet, try while riding events and have not found a helmet that for me is as comfortable and works as well as the XD-4. The excellent air flow is very controllable, and and the visor ( which is the main reason I bought the helmet) works very well with out much buffeting. With or with out a faring. I find the quieter helmets give me a sense of disconnect from the motorcycle I don't feel comfortable with. I do wear hearing protection so the noise that comes with the great air flow doesn't bother me. The field of vision on the Aria is excellent also. I hope this information is helpful.
I'm becoming more and more interested in helmets with the visor, or the dual sport style. my concern is i ride a speed triple with little wind protection and speed is my friend. Will the visor on the top create an uncomfortable amount of resistance?
kimerer25 on Nov 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have a Super Tenere and had my XD-4 up to 135 MPH on it. The visor can be positioned up or down to a nutral position so that it doesn't catch the wind very much.
