Arai Pro Shade System Replacement Long Visor

Nowadays it is quite common to use a retractable sun-visor that is situated between the helmet’s outer- and inner shell to protect against sun glare. However, it is Arai’s opinion that this construction could affect the performance of a helmet during impact. As the Pro Shade System is completely mounted on the outside of the helmet, it will not in any way negatively affect the performance of the helmet.

The Pro Shade System is a small peak that is locked in position. Unlocking is easy; just pull the Pro Shade System forward, then it can be flipped down with a flick of the hand to act as an effective sun-visor. The Pro Shade System is the complete all-weather system for serious touring riders, offering protection against sun glare, fogging and misting, especially for riders that prefer an upright seating position and/or the comfort of a fairing, the Pro Shade System will enhance the rider’s comfort significantly.

Features:

  • Fits all Arai SAI full-face helmets including the Arai Corsair V, Vector 2, RX-Q, Arai Signet-Q and Defiant
  • Compatible with Arai SAI Max Vision Pinlock Inserts With Brow Vents (sold separately)
  • Enhanced aerodynamics
  • Increased helmet stability
  • Removable for easy cleaning
  • No contact with visor: no scratching
  • 10mm longer than original visor

Note: Only includes visor. Must already have Pro Shade pivot points installed on helmet.

Two steps forward and three back...
Let me state from the git-go that I'm a huge Arai fan. I'm also a bit of a "helmet collector." Numerous Arai helmets (Corsairs, RX-Qs, Vectors, Vector-2s, XD-4) along with several Shoei helmets and a Schuberth C3 Pro. I had the original Arai Pro Shade system and as many have noted, it simply did not have the coverage to do the job properly. As many have also noted, the brow vents on the original Pro Shade were not up to Arai standards (read extremely cheesy). One of mine just fell out. When I went to snap it back in, I noticed a broken attachment tab. I'll have to order some new ones today. When I heard about the new Long Pro Shade System, I was pretty excited. Don't get too excited. Same cheesy brow vents and the new "smoke" Long Pro Shade is a lighter tint than the original Pro Shade System, which I would describe as dark smoke. With the ability to raise the Long Pro Shade system and instantly have a clear shield, why in the world would Arai choose to not have a dark smoke shield? I detest wearing sunglasses with a motorcycle helmet, so I've reluctantly put the original Pro Shade (dark smoke) back in play. Not as young as I once was and can no longer "sneak" home after the sun sets with a tinted shield. When riding a sport bike, taking an extra shield along is a real PITA. Bottom line, if it looks like there's a possibility of getting caught out after sundown, I'll be wearing my Schuberth C3 Pro. It's steadily becoming my "go to" helmet. It pains me to not recommend an Arai product. They build such wonderful/safe helmets, but they just can't seem to get the Pro Shade System/Long Pro Shade System right.

Why I went long
I have the pro-shade system on my Signet-Q Pro-tour. The original shade works well enough, but the longer shade provides that much more coverage... it also comes in a mirror finish!

With it up in the "peak" position, some wind rumbling is noticeable, but since I always ride with earplugs... kind of a moot point. I tend to ride with it down %99 of the time anyway.

It's easy to replace as the removal procedure is pretty straight forward, but I won't be putting on the original shade any time soon;)

IMHO, Arai should make the long shade stock.

Better than stock one
A little bit longer visor so it has a little better coverage. Like the mirror effect. Happy with purchase.

Pretty much required purchase
This is the longer visor, which covers more of your field of vision than the stock one. I can't imagine why they aren't this way already when you get the helmet. Highly recommended. I actually use it over the light smoke pinlock insert. Installs in less than 5 minutes.

Pretty Good
I have had this since July of 2016. Tint level is not dark enough for my preference, especially since it leaves that little gap at the bottom ( I put a tinted pin lock in ). Functionality is good no problems there. I have found that it is starting to make a scratch line where the bottom of the shade meets the regular clear visor. Bottom line is that its better than changing shields all the time, not perfect but good.

Slightly Lighter Tint Than OEM.
The longer length is worth it. But I wish they made it darker. You can flip it up if its dark outside!!!! (facepalm)

Perfect
Exactly what an, already good system, needed. I really like the Pro Shade Visor. It adds to the helmet a much needed vise. Now with a pull and a flick downward and I have a shaded shield. Cloudy out or riding at night. No problem simply flick the Pro Shade visor up and continue down the road. No more unnecessary stops to change out tinted shields or tinted Pinlocks. A safe and simple solution that gives the rider options.

I loved the short pro shade - I love blue - maybe i love the long blue shade?
Curtis S on Apr 21, 2017
I was getting the Arai Defiant Pro-Cruise Bold Helmet , and some reviewers state that the standard visor seems a little short, so it made sense to get the long visor included in the initial purchase - saves money in shipping.

Not getting enough coverage from original proshade visor.
Shawn5170 on Aug 28, 2016
The short visor that originally comes with the Pro Shade System only comes 3/4 down the face-shield. Feels odd to look through with it down, looks aesthetically odd as well.
Dario N on Aug 14, 2016
I have the standard some visor on the pro shade system installed on my Corsair-V. The smoke visor isn't long enough to block the sun.

Is any of the replacement options darker than the original shade, or about the same?
A shopper on Nov 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: About the same, or lighter (if you choose light smoke - the original is light smoke).
is this a longer outer visor for the pro shade system?
Eric H on Sep 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The area close to hinges comes down slightly farther.
Is this a longer version of the outer visor for the pro shade system?
A shopper on Sep 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is. It will replace the shorter original dark lens. This way you won't have to buy the complete system. You can detach your original dark lens and replace it with the longer version.
Does this work with the SAI dual pane shield?
Chad B on Feb 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The long visor does work with the Pro shade. I also found a tinted pinlock insert helped. It gives two levels of tint that way (one with the tinted visor up and darker with it down). Hope that helps.
Are any of the replacement options darker than the original shade, or about same?
A C on Nov 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I purchased the longer shield because I don't close it all the way. The darkness is the same as the original, just about 10mm longer.
Will this fit the Arai XD-4 ? If not, any suggestions on a similar shade system for that helmet.? Thx
Sean A on Apr 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have an XD-4 and a Signet-Q. The pro shade works well on the Signet-Q. I like it a lot. The XD-4 visor is entirely different. Obviously the XD-4 has its own visor/bill for shade, but it would be nice to have the capability to get more or less tint on the fly. Changing shields on the XD-4 requires 5 minutes and a screw driver. It is not quick change. My work around is to cary clear safety glasses when I have the dark sheild installed and sun glasses when I have the clear shield installed.
I'm thinking of getting one of the two long mirrored visors but cannot decide whether to get the blue or silver. Aside from aesthetics, what are the differences between the blue and silver?
Rod G on Mar 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My perception is they both function the same and only the esthetics are different. I have the un-mirrored and am very pleased.
