What's this?

Arai Corsair X Isle Of Man TT 2016 Limited Edition Helmet

In true Arai fashion, the Corsair-X Helmet has taken helmet technology and rider protection one step further by engineering a helmet that not only guards against direct impacts, but is specifically designed to minimize the effect of "glancing off" impacts as well. Arai has created a stronger shell and smoother shape that is more likely to redirect impact energy than absorb it (therefore decreasing the amount of force transferred to the body). To increase this potential to glance off impact energy, the VAS (Variable Axis System) side pod, pivot cover is smaller in size and its position on the shell is lower.

The Arai Corsair X Motorcycle Helmet features a chin curtain that helps to block air intrusion from the turbulent air underneath the helmet, as well as increases negative pressure to enhance the exhaust ventilation performance. The interior lining includes Arai's signature 5mm peel away ear pocket padding and ear pocket recess to accommodate communicator speakers.

VAS Shield System:

Normally the shield mounting position must remain relatively high, because a lower shield pivot will not allow the shield to open or close. The VAS (Variable Axis System) has a variable axis (moving pivot point). This allows shield opening and closing even with the 24mm lower shield mount position, compared to the Corsair V.

VAS Shield Latch System:

VAS shield latch system captures and holds the shield closed more securely to help prevent unexpected opening. In addition to a de-mist position, the larger latch design allows for an intuitive and seamless operation of the shield.

PB SNC2 Shell:

The Corsair X helmet shell is constructed from Super Fiber and other special synthetic fibers developed for F-1 helmet visor panels, assembled and bonded by Arai experts. A specially-developed resin creates stronger bonds between shell materials with less weight.

Diffuser Type 12:

The Corsair X Type 12 air diffusers are longer than the Corsair V and are straightened for improved aerodynamics, working together with the AirWing to improve stability, and creating a 19% gain in efficiency. The air intake vents are extremely adjustable and have three positions (closed, half open and fully open) and create a tight seal to decrease wind noise and water intrusion.

Eco Pure Liner:

The fully removable interior liner system is made from Eco Pure material, which helps maintain neutral acidity levels close to human skin and antibacterial consumption, as well as a softer liner material and adjustable temple padding to allow for a customized fit.

VAS V MV Shield:

The VAS MAX Vision shield is standard to provide better visibility in all seasons and for all types of riding and comes standard with a clear anti-fog Pinlock insert.

Additional Features:

  • VAS (Variable Axis System) shield and side pods are exclusive to the Arai Corsair X Helmet
  • Dual function lever releases both the side pod and the face shield for quick and simple face shield removal
  • VAS shield latch system captures and holds the face shield closed and provides a de-mist position to slightly crack the shield open
  • VAS MAX Vision face shield provides excellent visibility in all seasons thanks to the included Pinlock insert
  • Neckroll is removable and has additional exhaust channels to remove interior heat
  • Cheek pads have the Emergency Release Tab feature
  • IC Duct5 forehead vent provides 11% more airflow than the Corsair V, features 3 positions and is overall large and easy to operate with gloves
  • PB SNC2 Shell has superb tensile strength due to a variety of carefully-positioned materials and light weight resin
  • Arai's R75 shell shape creates a rounder, smoother helmet to enhance energy and impact dispersion
  • Includes clear Pinlock insert
  • Snell 2015 and DOT approved

Top of the helmet food chain.
Compared to the early 80s this is truly the best ! I also own an AGV Pista GP, lighter yes, but the Arai just inspires more confidence for me. Maybe because I'm a living testimonial to the Arai safety factor. I have crashed many times in my life, both on the street and the race track. Something you never want to do, but I am so happy it has always been with an Arai. One of these crashes was a highside at 110mph+... Thank you Arai!!!

Features upgrade vs Corsair-V
Top of the food chain in performance racing helmets. I've been an Arai user since serious riding started in 1999. This model is different than the V. Outside helmet shape is rounder. Improved peripheral vision and it is quieter that the V. Air flow seems to be increased and it's cooler. Neck roll is now removable to clean. The visor components and ease of disassembly have been improved over the Corsair-V. The lens optics are excellent do not distort.
Graphics are subjective but it looks very cool. The graphics have been layered with a subtle sparkle flake which gives the graphics a pop in the sun and depth in the shade. It's color scheme also lends itself to be more visible to others if you're a street rider. Quality, Safety and functionality have been a hallmark of Arai and this one continues to improve over previous models. Your head is worth every penny.

Wow. Just wow.
First of all, let's talk about the graphics -- Aldo Drudi design which looks even more stunning in person than these videos can show. There's specific detail work around the red lettering with a higher visibility red to make the graphics pop. I've had so many remarks about how great it looks, even from people who have no idea what TT is or what Ellan Vannin is all about. If you're a fan of the race and you like to pay tribute to the ancient Gaelic culture, Manx language and Triskelion symbol dating back to the 13th century, so much the better.
Now about that helmet. I own a Corsair V Defender, and this is all the quality and comfortable fit of an Arai you would expect---just a little more refined than the V. The padding seems more comfortable, and the air flow improved. I like how the brow vents, when open, flow air across your temple and cool you off right on the side of your head where there's apparently an important vein---they did that right.
Changing face shields is easier now, and I really like the new and improved Pro Shade system with the drop-down peak and shade. It actually doesn't make any noise even when going 90 mph....er, so I've heard.
The only downside is, at least at this time there's a more limited selection of face shields (e.g., no mirrors or Arai's really cool double pane system for winter riding)...but hopefully over time they will address this backlog and catch up to the Corsair V breadth of choice.
Why Arai? You can research this extensively, but they claim their round design dissipates energy in a crash like nothing else.
The only real downside of the Corsair X is that Arai doesn't believe in any integrated bluetooth options, with their race heritage. I'd like to see them provide a snap-in collar like Shuberth has done, but I understand that the 80 year old founder is unyielding to gadgetry in a helmet. It's just that if you go on a long ride and need directions, or music, you have to hack in some speakers yourself. Personally I love this helmet too much to take an X-acto knife and super glue to the inside of it...but YMMV.
