Arai Corsair V DiSalvo Helmet

The Arai Corsair V DiSalvo Helmet proves again that Arai’s main focus is the experienced rider who knows what a real helmet should do and have. It doesn’t fling fashion at you; it advanced the art of building better helmets for riders. Its improvements and innovations reach down to the smallest details. Why? Partly obsession. Partly because Arai believes every part of a helmet is interrelated in both design and function. We don’t believe in change for the sake of change, fad, or marketing “shock” value.

Features:

 • Newly designed shell with Hyper-Ridge around the bottom enhances shell strength while providing a larger bottom opening
 • Larger bottom opening promotes ease of putting on and taking off the helmet
 • Peripheral belting across the forehead area of the shell enhances structural integrity while maintaining flexibility, low weight and shell size
 • Larger upper vent tabs make operating the vents easier even with thick winter gloves

 • New “SAI” shield is 5mm longer in each side and provides a wider field of view
 • New “SAI” shield and base plates are exclusive to Corsair V helmets
 • Latest generation of Dry Cool line has a new silver-grey color
 • Rear mounting straps are slightly re-positioned exclusively to the Corsair V
 • Neckroll is removable and has additional exhaust channels to remove interior heat

Incredible Helmet. If it fits your head shape, it is the ultimate
There is no better helmet, except maybe the 3500$ carbon fiber version--but that is 3500 bucks.

Another fine product from Arai
Not much to say, this helmet was purchased to replace one of four Arai helmets already in the family . In my humble opinion Arai are the best out there for the price.

love this helmet
this is my 4th helmet purchase. the other ones i had were of ok quality. this time around i wanted to get something high quality and wasn't too concerned with how much it would cost. i'm what i would consider an average experienced rider but i wanted the best protection i could get.

my head is kind of in between sizes. my last helmet was a bit of a mistake and was slightly too large. having experienced that i didn't want it to happen again so i went with a medium for the arai. it was pretty tight at first but has loosened up a little bit and is really comfortable now.

aside from the obvious quality of the helmet, the first thing i noticed immediately when i first took it out on the street was the aerodynamics of it. my head was a lot more stable in the straight on position even at 70+ mph without trying to tuck under the windscreen. what was even more noticeable was when turning my head at the same speeds to change lanes. very smooth and i didn't feel like my head was geting jerked around like with my previous helmet.

airflow seems to be good and i'm looking forward to seeing how it stands up to the heat of the summer. this helmet is a classic example of you only get what you pay for. it cost me but it was worth every penny.

What I don't like
There's 80+ positive reviews so cutting out all the praises here is what I don't like after 3 months use.
- Definitely for oval shaped heads. Of course I'm not, so my chin touches the chin bar at higher speeds when force of wind presses against frontal area of helmet.
- chin curtain is built in and slides in and out of chin bar. Does not cover well to block out cold and is difficult to use with gloves on. It also must be retracted before putting helmet on.
- Visor system is horrible for a $800 lid. This is a common compliant for a reason with users. I feel it's always going to break from using too much force and it's simply to cumbersome to have to pull and pry visors off and on. I know it's causing wear and tear on the visors and the helmets visor retaining mechanism. Makes me want to not change visors at all.
- it's LOUD...really loud. Also when not in a tuck position, I sometimes hear the "beer bottle" effect or whistling from top vents. Stops when you tuck. Definitely a race/track lid
-$800
With all these problems it still looks incredibly cool. Color me squid, I'm keeping it.
