AETHER Loop Motorcycle Jacket
Designed specifically for urban motorcycle commuters, the Loop integrates protective shock-absorbing pads into a cleanly styled canvas jacket.
Made from the same abrasion-resistant heavy canvas as Aether's Compass motorcycle pants, the Loop offers breathability with a natural fabric feel. For protective padding, they partnered with D3O, the industry leader in shock-absorbing body armor. D3O pads are malleable when handled at slow speeds, but tighten upon impact to absorb energy. The Loop comes with elbow and shoulder pads as well as a back pad, all of which are CE-certified and completely removable.
A padded collar adds extra comfort around the neck, while zippered cuffs can be adjusted to accommodate gauntlet or short gloves. Pit zip vents run from the riders waist to elbows allowing cool air to be routed into the jacket. Two front hand pockets, Napoleon chest pocket, and subtly integrated back pocket offer exterior storage, while an interior pocket offers a place to store valuables.
Perfect for commutes or short day rides, the Loop motorcycle jacket is tough enough to take a hit but clean-cut enough to wear to dinner.
- Abrasion-resistant heavy canvas shell
- Moto mesh-interior liner
- D3O pads at elbow, shoulders and back
- Padded collar
- Zippered cuffs
- Zippered pit vents
- Napoleon pocket with exterior access
- Zippered hand pockets

Reviews & Questions
My first gripe:
The zipper on my first jacket failed within 2 weeks, had to warranty claim it. Big ups to Jennifer at AETHER for fast tracking that claim as it's my only piece of armored jacket gear. I got a replacement and the zipper still feels flimsy. Why not just upgrade all the zippers to a big beefy YKK like on some TOPO Designs bags or something? Big zip, able to be ham fisted through a glove. I even met a guy who had the leather SPIDI collaboration jacket and he had a broken zipper as well. Lifetime warranty is necessary, unfortunately!
Second gripe. The jacket's pockets are oriented toward right-handed persons ... when you're on a motorcycle (unless you have cruise control) you're a leftie! Simple reality, the left hand is the only hand that really has the freedom to move while driving.
First praise. The fit is amazing. I am a 44" chest (5'9", 180) and I can slip a high loft thermal fleece under it for cold weather riding. The jacket has gotten multiple "hey nice jacekt" from non-rider friends who don't even realize it's got armor in it.
Second praise. Finally, a "lifestyle" oriented brand that actually puts armor into their jackets. Jesus am I tired of instagram-posturing motorcycle "apparel" companies posing hottie-jabrotties on vintage Yamaha cafes with sweeeeeet looking leathers only to find out that NONE of them come with even a whiff of real protection. "No, sorry, this jacket doesn't fit armor but it's, like, super thick leather so you're good! I mean we, like, had it made by Vanson with their competition leathers (you know the kind that, like, real racers wear) and it's so good to go, my man!" Boo. Racers wear armor. Go back to Pinterest with that 5,000% mark up on someone else's jacket pattern.
Third praise. Jacket is cool. Plain and simple. Four pockets needed, four pockets designed. The back pocket is good for a cheeky pack of smokes (brown or green, whatever dude EZ RIIIIIIIIIIDER), side pockets are great for separating keyrings and lip balms and your pommade and genuine Moto Guzzi OEM replacement brake reservoir seals.
Would I buy this jacket again? Sure, but I'm still waiting for someone to actually make a jacket with quality zips that I can open and close while I'm riding that doesn't make me look like a neon-safety-sam.
Armour fits neatly, easily and snugly into position.
Minimal pockets, but they're normally overdone, buy a traditional jacket if that's what your after. Came with a crazy little pocket whistle.
Massive fan, perfect jacket for cooler spring etc...
It runs a little big like the video says. But I wouldn't say it's a full size big. I wear a XXL shirt and I bought an XXL jacket. It fits slightly big but I like it and I'm not returning it.
You really can't get a better jacket at this price point. I can't recommend it enough.

ANTHONYFROMREVZILLA! makes it clear this is a spring Jacket, and this jacket is in it's element here. When it's 35 it acts more as a shade provider, with the pit-zips open, and the collar raffishly loose. Showers are effortlessly brushed aside and the material quickly dries in a balmy breeze with no water ingress. During the biblical deluges that we get here,it doesn't stand a chance, but, when there's 15m visibility and an inch of standing water on every surface including you, that's no surprise nor disgrace.?
It’s very comfortable. The armour is soft but reassuring and you forget it's there. Because it has no plastic panels you can roll what starts as a bulky jacket into an astonishingly small space, e.g.: in a back pack. Most back-protectors won't do that; it's handy.
The size of the pockets is good. You can slip a phone easily into either of the chest pockets and a disc-lock or thin gloves fit into a lower pocket easily.
I have never, in four months, used the pocket at the back and I don't imagine I ever will. It does look good though. As mentioned above, you'd have to be a contortionist to access it whilst riding.?
The whole package looks good. Really good. Not ostentatious but very classy: people know it's quality, that it's well cut, and they comment on it. A lot of them admire and envy the absence of brash logos. It's quite a stealth jacket; you get hugs (Well, I do, you might not. I don't think that's necessarily going to come with the jacket...) followed by exclamations: "It's got armour? I'd never have guessed!" etc. I like the anonymity that comes with this jacket and the breadth of social occasion it can handle.
Enough gush. The zips. They're s**t. As mentioned above, in thick gloves you can't undo them, or do them up. In thin gloves they require careful attention. Still. After four months and 5000K. 6 out of 7 days I will fumble to do up the main zipper like a pre-school child that's wearing mitts. One day the sun went down (it does that, I've noticed) and the temperature dropped. I thought I'd do up my pit-zips, close the vents and be snug and smug. No. I managed about 75% of the left and 50% of the right. There's two zippers that could meet in the middle, or both at the top or bottom or anywhere in-between, to close the vents. I tried for the rest of my commute, including whilst stationary at lights. I could not get either of the four zips to the end of the vent without snagging the liner and jamming, or just jamming (I would have loved to witness myself pawing at my pits, swearing). I have only ever closed them with the jacket taken off. They do look good though, in that they're unobtrusive, although, I'd argue, a little too unobtrusive.
There is a popper at the neck, which closes on a loop on the right of the collar, that you can easily snap shut with your left hand whilst riding by hooking a finger under the loop. It works a charm, it's a brilliant solution to not pushing a popper into your carotid and passing out, I wish the zippers had received the same attention.
I got size 2. I'm 183cm or almost 6'1 and 85kg or 187lbs, broad over the shoulders and no belly (yet, but I'm working on it!). It fits well although I think the sleeves could be 3 or 4cm longer.
There's a zip on the cuffs that's a bit defunct, giving an extra couple of cm diameter that isn't really going to get over any thicker gloves. The bit beneath is canvas, not elasticated... but now I'm nit-picking.
I got the sand colour, it's been soaked several times, baked in the sun and blasted with road grime and looks as good as new. The liner is comfortable and works. I haven't washed it and it doesn't need it. That's after 5000K of 90% city riding. A bird shat on it; it washed off in the rain and you'd never know. It's practical.
I haven't had a spill so I can't comment on it's protection...yet.
Summary: It's great and I love it. It oozes class, a sotto voce sophistication (ooh!). It's quality, apart from the zippers (that look good, they're not deal breakers...)
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes. Absolutely, providing they don’t live too close: I like the exclusivity!
