Shoei CX-1V Pinlock Lens Insert
This is a great product with one small exception.
This product works as advertised. My only problem with it is when wearing polarized sun glasses, vision becomes distorted and I can't read my bike's display screen. This is really not a big deal because in most sunny conditions I would just change out the visor to a tinted standard visor anyway. Those early morning rides when it is cool and dry I just crack open my tinted visor a bit and use the clear pinlock screen only when it is raining. I wouldn't bother having a tinted pinlock insert as you still have to take the visor off the bike to change it for darker conditions.. Every time you change you risk scratching or smudging.

I wish I had bought this years ago
I ride year-round in Michigan as long as there is no snow/ice on the road. This means I ride when it's really cold out. I've tried both CatCrap and Clarity Defog It and neither worked very well. It was 30 degrees and foggy this morning and my Pinlock shield kept my field of vision perfectly clear, even during a lengthy wait for a train to pass. The area around the insert fogged up while I waited for the train but my field of vision was perfectly fog-free. This thing is like a little miracle. I only wish I had spent the money and gotten it years ago. If you are on the fence about trying one, just go ahead and make the leap. You won't regret it.

Pin-lock insert works with the visor and there is no fogging.
This insert works with the visor that is pin-lock ready. I have had trouble with my multi-tech helmet fogging even when using anti-fog products. Seems they would work for a day then have to be reapplied to prevent fogging. The pin-lock system (with insert) prevents fogging over the entire area of the insert, it works great. The only complaint is that I wish the insert was covered a little more of the visor at the top and bottom. There is a wide field of view, but there is a noticeable line at the top and bottom that is a little distracting, especially when using the smoke insert.

No fog - and that's the whole point
Using this insert with the pinlock shield has eliminated fogging while riding in cold weather.
I just wish there was a good solution for carrying multiple inserts around while riding.

I can now say these really work...
Finally had a chance to test the pin lock system in a heavy summer rainstorm. Where normally a visor would have instantly fogged up, as happened to the buddy I was riding with, my pin lock shield stayed clear.
Wish they made pin lock ready shields in all colors with a clear insert for this helmet instead of the other way around. Having a clear shield with a smoked insert isn't ideal, but luckily I had room to bring my pin lock shield as a spare on this trip and I'm glad I did as it really came in handy.

Fog Free Lens
Great product and works as advertised. Only draw back is on the Shoei RF1000 the lens will not cover entire shield, so tuck position is difficult because the top portion of the shield will start to fog where the lens doesn't cover. Also, the top edge of the lens sometimes will get into your field of vision and you must adjust your riding position to much more upright or try to tilt your helmet back a little. Get the clear lens first. Two minor drawbacks for a lens that gives completely fog free riding.

Finally, something that really eliminates fogging
I bought the Pinlock shield and lens insert together back in Oct. '13. That ended the ridiculous fogging problem on my RF1000 to the point of now being able to sit at long traffic signals in temps around freezing and keep the face shield completely closed. Not having to leave the shield open a crack until I get rolling when it's really cold out is a big plus too.
I don't have any problems with the lens not covering the entire shield and for me, it easy to install it without getting smudges all over it.

Works OK but not great
The pinlock does work to reduce the amount of fogging. But...it is best if you put the helmet on and close the shield in a warmer area, then go outside. Otherwise it takes a long time for the inside of the shield to warm up enough to not fog.
And, you can still fog the shield in very cold and humid conditions.
It is a hundred times better than the bare shield so is still worth it. Beware as it does reduce the field of view significant;y.
I just wish someone would make face shields like they do skiing goggles, ie, double layer.
