This product has great features Seems to be keeping the fog away. Notice slight visual distortions w/ the extra plastic, but not a deal breaker. As been said many times before, Shoei should come with a pin-lock ready visor in the first place. Also, the black plastic for the pin-lock nodules should be clear so as not to distract the peripheral vision. October 5, 2015
A "must have" on the older Hornet To be honest, I hated wearing my Hornet (previous generation) before adding the Pinlock inserts. You shouldn't keep the visor/windscreen down without it fogging; regardless of where the vents were. This could be partially due to my bike's windshield offering a lot of coverage, but regardless, the fogging was horrible. With the insert installed, you can't fog this thing of you try. Expensive for what it is, in my opinion, but it does it's job without fail. It does limit your vision a touch and I wish the view box was a touch larger. August 10, 2015
Great product This pinLock makes my Hornet Ds a perfect helmet... March 9, 2015
It worked... mostly This shield was great for keeping the fog off unless I rode in the rain. The helmet would let some moisture in and regardless of the pinlock it would fog up pretty terribly. I also regretted getting the tinted one instead of the clear. October 29, 2013
Elegant Solution Sometimes the simplest solution to a problem is the best one, and that's Pinlock's face shield in a nutshell. No gadgetry, just physics. A simple gasket blocks airflow to the lens, and creates an insulated layer of air between lens and face shield. Looking forward to one less frustration as I ride fog-free this season. A shopper asked: Would the coloured lenses be an option to replace sunglasses? Or is the pinlock system for foggy wet & cool days only? Aug 18, 2014

Richard W: Yes. The tinted lenses can replace sunglasses. The drawback is that you're always tinted. I bought the clear to solve my fogging problem and also purchased the tinted lens for sunny days but found it too much of a pain to change lenses constantly, so now I just run with the clear lens and wear sunglasses as necessary. This system works great to keep the shield from fogging. Aug 18, 2014

DOUGLAS P: The pinlock system is not just for foggy, wet and cool days. I use mine day and night year round although the manufacturer says not to use it at night. But I think it's not well suited to replace sunglasses, because it leaves an unprotected area across the top of the field of view, and it's not polarized. Aug 19, 2014

Tim P: Yes it works great as a replacement to sun glasses , yellow !
If if it's clean & not dusty or foggy wet ! If you keep the shield closed it will work longer !
Bottom line it must stay clean or it's twice the problem .
I don't use mine anymore .

Richard N: Yes, the idea is to allow you to adjust for the conditions and prevent fogging. I leave my light tint lens in all the time and only swap it out when needed. It is a bit more work than popping on a pair of sunglasses though. Aug 19, 2014

Michael M: I have the clear Pinlock... can't really comment on how dark the colored lens is. The benefit of the Pinlock for me is for the cold / wet days. I still wear sunglasses (non-polarized) on the sunny days. Aug 18, 2014

Charles S: A tented lens could easily replace a light pair of sunglasses. It doesn't have to be raining or cold to use the Pinlock Lens. Aug 18, 2014

A shopper asked: The pinloc website says the system consists of a pinloc prepared lens and a pinloc lens. I only see the pinloc lens when I ran a search on your site. Where do I get the pinlock prepared Shoei Hornet lens? I guess I need to get two lenses? the pinloc lens and the other to mount it on? Jul 20, 2011

Mike22: Presuming your current face shield doesnt have the pinlocks on it (two black notch things on the peripheries of the shield) you will need:

That (it doesnt have pictures but send them an email, sounds like the right product), and then you will need the actual pinlock lense to clip on to the inside of the face shield:

Hope that helps mate

tomZilla: You would need the Pinlock Faceshield to utlize the pinlock lens. Both are required to use the pinlock system. Jul 21, 2011
