Great all around jacket

By William K. on October 12, 2009
Sizing:
Fits 1 size smaller
Pros:
Comfortable and Great Value
Cons:
Comments:

XL is snug over a single shirt when all 3 layers are worn. If planning for a one jacket option, go 1 size larger so you can layer under the jacket.

Desired improvements: storage pocket to hold liner in temperate weather. Vent options in wind proof liner.

Great Jacket

Great jacket. This isn't as supple as other jackets, but that is because it is a more durable, heavier quality fabric jacket. The two additional liners look great and the way they fit in the jacket is nice. This is a great three season jacket. Warmer weather airflow is adequate. I have breezier summer weight jackets with more airflow but don't offer the same level of protection. It's a give and take thing. And I am moving toward safer products, giving up some comfort along the way. This is a great jacket. Highly recommend.

Olympia Viper Mesh Tech Jacket - Men's Large

By B. Sebastian From Cincinnati, OH on August 25, 2009

Fits true to size
Pros:
Comfortable, Fashionable, Rugged, and Great Value

First, the bad - and its not really bad, just nit picking... Side zipper pockets feel positioned a little high. When the jacket is on, you have to really hook your arm up under your pit to get to the zipper tab at the top of the pocket. Minor, but something that came to mind (look at the picture and think about it). With the mesh front, rear and top-of-the-arm panels, air flow is good. The one place that doesn't seem to get good ventilation is UNDER the back protector. The pad is not ventilated, so, on really hot days, it can get a little sweaty between the pad and your back. Also, very minor. I ride a Ducati S4, and the riding position is "sport." With the liners (thermal and wind/rain) out, the jacket is comfortable up to 90F if moving. In traffic, uhhh, gets hot. They all do. And, my choice of black probably didn't help - but I am happy with it.

I'm 5'8.5" and 175 lbs. I usually take a 44, so the large fits well. Overall fit and finish is very good. The Cordura fabric feels very substantial - which is good if you take a fall. One reason I got the Viper over the Airglide 2 jacket was the heavier Cordura (2000 denier at impact points, vs 500d in the Airglide 2). The other was the separate thermal and water proof liners, vs single liner for the Airglide 2. The shoulder and elbow armor are good. When putting the jacket on, I sometimes have to fiddle a little with the arms to get the shoulder armor positioned properly (it flips sideways a little). Weird. Not a big deal. Once in place, and zipped up, all is good. Protection won't be as good as leather, but, for around town, it should be adequate. The zippers and pockets are well stitched and feel solid. The inner mesh lining is smooth/soft. I do notice a little bit of billowing at high speeds. May be in part due to the riding position. Not the case with the thermal liner in. I rode in to work this week, with a morning temp of 53F. With just the thermal liner zipped in, I was very comfortable. I figure with the wind breaker added, the jacket would be good down to the 40s.

One last comment and I'll shut up - when night riding with a friend, he commented on how well the reflective piping shows up in headlights. Very bright. He said you could see the entire outline of the jacket where the piping is. That's nice for safety - and during the day, the understated style maintains a nice "look."

Delivery by Revzilla was prompt (2 days) and the packaging was top notch. Hanger, plastic cover, and all the tags to tell you the features. Plus, the ZillaCash will knock the price down when I purchase my Sidi boots!

Very nice. I've been wearing it for the past couple of weeks in SE Georgia. Very good airflow and comfortable on 90 degree days. It gets hot when the bike isn't moving, but I get hot with a t-shirt in the summer. The yellow is a more "neon" than the pictures show, but I like that. My friends say they can see my jacket before anything else. It's very comfortable and I'm completely unencumbered. Lot's of pockets and lining options.

Second Olympia Jacket

By Charles H. From NASHVILLE, TN on April 06, 2009

Fits true to size
Pros:
Cons:
Comments:

I recently putchased the new Viper Jacket in the black/hi viz combination. I have owned the Olympia Airglide jacket for 2 years and 14,000 miles. The new Viper has heavier Codura in the critical areas and seems to have a trimmer fit than the Airglide. The jacket is a nice match with my Airglide black pants and the hi viz yellow stands out. The new Viper has 2 inner liners as compared to the 1 liner with the Airglide. The "rain" liner is great to wear on cool days when just the mesh lets in too much air. Adding the "warm" second liner takes you down to the low 40's and high 30's (with base layers).
The 2 liner combination seems to be bulky at the wrist area and fitting the velcro wrist strap over the liners and gloves makes for a tight squeeze. But it's a minor inconvenience. Keep in mind that this is a mesh jacket and in the summer months it's great, but since I ride with mine year round, you do get a breeze through the mesh regardless of what liners you have in. Have yet to wear in the rain, but the airglide performed OK. The shoulders, with the removable pads gives your shoulders a "hulk" look but the pads are quality and should protect you from a crash. My only complaint with the Airglide is the velcro straps around the elbow, that keep the elbow pads from shifting during a crash, seem to lose the adhesion after a couple of years. The Viper may have better quality velcro.

I am 5'11" and 165 lbs. and the medium is a perfect fit. I wear a size 32 in the pants. Length is perfect.
