The aviation industry has hundreds of Pliers to choose from, but for me the MSR brand works just fine. It takes practice and plenty of trial and error to get a neat and correct twist. MSR pliers get the job done right.

Andrew D:No, they cannot be reversed. Untwisting isn't part of standard safety wire practice anyway and as far as I know there is no such thing as a set of pliers that can twist both ways. If you need undo something, you cut it off and start fresh. That's why you should also have a good pair of diagonal cutters in your tool box. Thank you for the prompt response. The reason for my question wasn't about untwisting the wire, but rather changing the direction of the twist for the pigtail when finishing the second bolt. My understanding is that when safety wiring a bolt, you want the "loop" that travels around the bolt head to pass UNDER the wire that comes out of the other hole so that it pins down the "loop" and prevents it from slipping over the head of the bolt. When wiring two bolts, ideally the pigtail you make after wiring the second bolt would be wound the opposite direction from the main length of safety wire, so that the [counter-clockwise] direction of the twist helps to pin down the loop on the second bolt in the same manner the [clockwise] twist does for the loop on the first bolt. This is how I interpreted the various DIY videos online that are geared toward aircraft enthusiasts, however I'm sure it's a minor point and doesn't make a huge difference in application. One video in particular specifically mentioned that some pliers can reverse directions for this very purpose, but I'm not sure it's worth the huge disparity in price for a aircraft-grade tool vs this one.
I forgot to ask one more thing, do these pliers have serrated jaws that will marr the safety wire, or are they flat?

Now that I think about it, I don't see why you couldn't just loop the wire around the top of the lower bolt head rather than the bottom, making the same clockwise twist pin down the loop on both bolts equally well. Maybe there's some obscure engineering reason why it's better to loop it under the head of the lower bolt, but I'm not seeing it. Now I'm interested why that one video teaches to do it that way. Anyways, thanks for the response re: the wire diameter.
