Kuryakyn Gran Throw Over Saddlebags

Add convenience with these saddlebags that install in seconds without any bulky accessory mounts being added to your motorcycle. These universal saddlebags are true throw-over saddlebags. Simply adjust the mounting belt and throw them over or under the passenger seat. Use the included universal straps to finish off the mounting and minutes later you are off on your next ride!

Gran-ThrowOver Saddlebags feature dual zip-out drink holders, internal and external accessory pockets, and expandable main compartments; these saddlebags were designed to cover all your needs.

Uncompromising Kuryakyn design adds weatherproof construction of 1200 denier material and comes with a full rain cover for that severe inclement weather.

The semi-rigid design with leather accents allows you to ride with them empty or full-and they still keep their shape and style. The heat-resistant material on the bottom portion of the bag avoids those potential issues with hot pipes and wears like iron. Coordinate these saddlebags with any other Kuryakyn motorcycle luggage and ride on fully loaded with all the storage room you need.

Great saddlebags - may still need supports
These saddlebags are actually pretty fantastic. They hold a considerable amount, look pretty sharp, and have a ton of features for the price.

Installation is a cinch - though there are no visual aids to securing the bags with the included straps, just follow the general guidelines and you'll be fine. I used two of the buckle snaps to secure the rear attachment rings around my passenger back-rest, and the two velcro straps to secure the top front rings to the passenger foot-pegs. Bags stayed put and my passenger wasn't uncomfortable riding with them. Balance was good and detaching/reattaching the bags was quick and easy.
There are no carrying handles on these guys, so the best way to carry them while off the bike is to throw them over a shoulder and haul them around like a pack horse.

Now the cons:
(Keep in mind that I have a Suzuki Savage, which is a light cruiser - sized kind of along the lines of a Harley Sportster.)

Depending on the size of your bike, you'll likely need to re-locate your rear turn signals if they're currently mounted on the fender. Make sure you get a relocation kit that's appropriate for your ride. Some are better for American bikes while others are better for metric.

Kuryakyn claims that these bags do not need additional support because they're so rigid. However, I've found that they need to be set VERY high on the seat to prevent contact with the rear tire. If I had mounted the bags under the passenger seat, there's no way they'd have kept off the tire. This may be because my rear fender is so slight, but it's the case none the less.

I'd definitely recommend these bags, but caution the owner to tripple check tire clearance before riding with them.

Fantastic product...but not perfect...
If you are to use these bags as a throwover bag only(over the rear seat), these would be ideal. Throw them over the seat then when you get to your destination, lug them over your shoulder and off you go...however...i chose to fix these underneath the seat and use the provided straps to keep everything tied down...that was when i saw the main issue with these bags...SECURITY...as they have opted out of using the double zip option there is no way you can lock the bags which means at pitstops/lunch and overnighters, anything left in the bags is a free for all for dodgy thieves...Install was a cinch and they look nice enough. Provided raincovers were definitely a bonus but yet to try them out....

If you want removeable saddlebags and you are on a budget, then look no further ... The Kuryakyn bags do not require any special hardware to mount. They have tons of storage for weekend getaways or cross-country rides. The included rain flys are a must have option. The only saddlebags I've owned that didn't leak were hard bags. At least until I got these.

Note: First time mounting them the retention straps can be a bit daunting, but it gets easier.

Throw over the seat. Ride. Throw over your shoulder. Check in.
Great if you're like me and don't want to have bags affixed to the sides of my Softail Deluxe because road trips aren't common. They can be secured for the ride with the straps included and can be put facing forward or backwards. They come with waterproof covers also. Don't expect security with these when parked. These are simple throw over and grab bags for convenience.

Meh
Don't forget to purchase Brackets or mounts, These are NOTdesigned to just throw on and ride. I drive a Suzuki M50 Boulevard (cruiser).
I have had the bags for about 2 years. I originally bought the soft bags because of expandability and taking odd shaped cargo. The zippers have fallen apart all over the bag. So the durability is going to get you sooner or later. I'm looking into getting new bags, but after these I will go with hard shell. Basically if you're gentle you could get 5 years out of these (I wasn't).

Would I have to relocate the turn signals on a 2013 Harley superglide?
A shopper on Dec 29, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Probably not. I can't say for sure, but I had these bags on a Honda Shadow and it fit. That has a smaller tail section which brought the signals forward. You ought to be fine.
Will a full face helmet fit in these bags?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes. These bags expand almost 3" at the rear of the bag. It will comfortably fit a full face helmet. I do recommend that you use saddlebag supports with these bags. The bags will rub on the tire as well as the belt/chain without rigid supports behind them. Also the bags are great for trips (as long as you dont over stuff them).... But I would not recommend these bags for daily use, as the materials were not made to last in the sun and rain on a daily basis.

Hope this helps.
would these bags mount on multiple bikes? A harley sportster, KLR650 and a ninja 250??
A shopper on Aug 26, 2012
BEST ANSWER: As long as your bike offers a seat wide enough for the Kuryakyn Grand Throw Over Saddlebags, and that the exhaust does not come in contact with the bags, you should be able to inter-change them without any issue.
I have used these bags on my 86 Shadow and they work very well. I have just acquired a 96 BMW R850R, the bag comes in contact with the exhaust on the BMW. Do you have a rack or other suggestions which will allow me to use these bags on the beamer?
