Joe Rocket Women's Cleo Mesh Pants 3.5 5 2 2
Wanted to love (and wear) them Seems like they would be a great pair of pants but at 5'6" and 135, I'm too large for a S and too small for a M. The 29.5" waist on the small came to about 1.5" below my 29" waistline/belly button, fit my legs and 37" hips/lack of rear end rather snugly but did not fit at the top without some uncomfortable muffin top action going on. The medium's 32" waist came up to my actual waist but were very baggy in the waist/hips/thighs. The zippers, mesh, removable hip/pelvic bone padding and construction seemed nice - the zippers are easily caught in the fabric next to them, though, and I think anything will make marks on this fabric. The snap adjustments in the waistline subtract .5" each at most. For shorter ladies, they look like they'd be somewhat easy to take up depending on how well you'd want the hems finished. The knee armor in both sizes hit at the right places when seated without adjustment. $20 in return shipping bites a bit to learn this lesson after being advised that these pants run large (the small doesn't, the medium WAY does). The inseam is 32", not 35". June 14, 2012
solid pants I'm 5'7", ~145 lbs, with a smallish waist and a bit of a butt. I'm happy with the way the medium fit. The waist has 3 snaps to adjust fit, and all of them work for me depending on what I'm tucking into the top. There's enough room in the thighs/hips, and roomy in the knees as well. As far as style goes, I tried 3 pairs and picked these - they were a decent balance between formfitting, roomy, protective, and the skipants look. The hip padding is removable, as is the knee armor, which has 2 placements to choose from. Length is ok. I liked how these were full-zip pants - made it easy to get on over my usual bootcut jeans, and of course you could wear them over shorts. They are quite warm so I wouldn't want to wear them on a super hot day. In cooler weather, these alone, or these plus jeans would be great. July 3, 2011

Are these pants easy to hem. I have a 29" inseam.

Answer:
For me, these pants would be impossible to hem, as I am not even capable of threading a needle. Fortunately I have a 92 year old mother who still believes she must do my sewing.

However, I would hesitate to give her these pants to hem for the simple reason that the zipper will need to be shortened. In the past, when I have given her sewing jobs involving zipper shortening, she has invariably managed to lose the item somewhere, she doesn't know where, or ruin it in the wash, or just plain deny that I ever gave it to her in the first place. This string of unbroken bad luck extends back at least 50 years.

Your sewing skills may be up to a zipper shortening task, if not I recommend not trying to hem these pants.

Answer:
The inseam is actually 32", not 35", and when you sit down these move up quite a bit due to the knee armor, so they might come close to fitting you without taking them up.

But to answer your question - depending on how well "refined" of a hem you're looking for, it could be easy. I've attached a photo of the hem of the ones I received.

Answer:
...and as far as Rick's comments about zippers - these zippers are easy-peasy to shorten - either just hem the entire bottom of the pant (folding the zipper so you can't zip any further down) or sew a bunch of times around the zipper teeth where you want it to stop, and trim below your new zipper stop.

I am looking for riding pants that are NOT designed to be worn as extra protection over your jeans or as cold weather extra gear. I live in Florida so layering pants is not necessary here. Thank you.

Answer:
I was planning on wearing them under a skirt as leg protection - maybe over compression shorts because the front panel is mesh - they seem to be really well ventilated, but FL? I think I'd want silver or white mesh - black is going to be HOT. :)

Answer:
I don't think you can wear jeans under these. They have a soft mesh interior layer that goes against your skin. They are quite snug and are meant to be worn as pants, not overpants. Hope that helps.
