Not recommended for off-road motorcycle use
This mount performed pretty well with gentle use on-road, but failed with what must have been a minor amount of contact with a bush or shrub while on a forest road. Just looking at it, you can tell it's made of some rather thin plastic. They probably intended this for mountain bike use at most. In my case, the plastic failed around the bar mounting fixture. I did not lose the camera, which is a miracle because I didn't have it tethered! So for that I'm thankful. I think from here on out it makes more sense to use the RAM mount system. For just a little bit more money, it's a more robust fixture with more versatility, but does sacrifice ease of mounting somewhat. It's all a trade-off. Just be aware that this GoPro mount is not by any means sturdy or up to any level of serious off-road motorcycle use.

This product is sturdy and a good addition to GoPro mounts
This is a very sturdy mount to attach my GoPro 2 to several bar type apparatuses in a very safe manner. It is easy to mount and un-mount on round and square bar applications for quick and easy relocation of the camera. Good addition to the handlebar mount because it fits much large diameter tubing.

I just picked up this bracket. You asked about using on a square bar. I with I could send you a picture, but I would say "yes" as long as the bar was no larger than 2.5" wide and 1.75" height. The width being bolt to bolt, and the height being the maximum I could unscrew the bolts and still have full threads. If your bar extends beyond the curved area and can sit on the flat areas next to the bolts, I suspect this would be a very solid mount.
I do notice that if I hand tighten the thumbscrews too much, it can spin the head of the bolt sitting in the plastic. In that case, I just use a screwdriver.
