Excellent Tire I live in beautiful Michigan and ride every day I can rain or shine and the occasional light snow and sleet. The 401s just rock it. Great on dry, warm roads, of course - but also great wet grip plus functioning well at temps as low as 20 degrees. Feedback and feel are good and provide excellent confidence. I bought these as an exact replacement for a pair that have over 13,000 miles on them, showing good longevity, too. Minimal cupping with judicious lean-time. If there's something better, you'd have to prove it to me. April 19, 2015
OEM fit and performance It's seems a little premature to grade a brand-new tire on tread life and wet traction, when I have yet to ride it in the rain, and the tire is just at the beginning of its life, but this is no doubt a great performing tire on my XL1200N. Like I told my folks, this is like having a new pair of shoes. Maybe it's placebo affect, but the bike felt great handling all the corners I threw at it on the ride home after the install. I'd definitely consider buying another, if I can get 10,000 miles out of it. The original tire didn't last 7,000. March 23, 2015
Strong tire I wanted to keep the factory tire on the bike, to match the front, which is still very new, but also because I have had good luck with the grip and tread life. I rode it on a misty night with the tread well near the wear bars and still had safe traction to get me home. I will buy another one when this set wears out, unless I go with the white walls.... Made in the USA Use these on my sportster. Consistantly get 25000km plus, and even then, no noticable loss of traction. It pays to buy american, the comparable 404's i hear get about half that. Spend the extra couple buys and buy the 401's. August 18, 2014
Very good tire for this price point This is the OEM tire for the HD Dyna Lowrider. I get about 10k miles out of these rear tires. The performance is very good for all road surfaces and conditions you're likely to encounter on a street bike. July 28, 2014
Honestly I didn't buy for me... Honestly I didn't buy the tire for me... it was for my mother in-law but it look like an awesome tire to me and also she really! really! really! needed one.. LOL! May 26, 2014
Good tire for small HD's These Dunlop tires are your basic tires for any small Harley Davidson. The price is very reasonable and the performance is average but they do last a long time. I have averaged over 9k miles on them throughout the years and I do ride them hard. February 10, 2014
Great Product !! This is a direct replacement for Harley. It arrived to me very quick and before designated time. I will definately use RevZilla again, they had the lowest price. October 28, 2013

STEVEN B: I've got nearly 13,000 miles on the current set and it's a great tire, rain or shine or whatever else Michigan throws at 'em! I could probably get to 14k before I get to the wear indicators, but I ride every day no matter the weather and would rather not take the risk. Mar 25, 2015

A shopper asked: What is the factory recommended replacement Dunlop front tire for my 79 FXS-80 Low Rider? I am currently using the Dunlop K181 MJ/90-19 series for the front and K181 MT90-16 for the rear and not sure if the D401 90/90-19 will give me the handling I want and need. Aug 12, 2013

Harry S: D401 is recommended by both HD and Dunlop. Put this tire on the front of an 07 dyna street bob. Handling and ride much improved over original tire. Bike had 8500 miles on the original tire. Sidewall on the 401 is more compliant and tread does well dry or wet. You probably know that these are stiff tires. I know several who are running Metzlers or the new Shinko tires with very good results also. Shinko has a much softer sidewall, but at the correct pressure, these seem to ride really nice and are rated for the HD weight. Aug 14, 2013

John G: I hope this helps. I have a 2006 Sportster and use a Dunlop Harley-Davidson D401 tire on the rear. My front wheel uses a Dunlop Dunlop Harley-Davidson D402 (21 inch) tire. I think that it handles beautifully but I am not sure how much this will help you answer your question. Good luck and stay safe. Aug 12, 2013

jeff m: I just rode to Sturigs n. dacoda 2540 miles round trip and the tire handle great. As long as you have enough clearance for one size bigger tire it shouldn't be a problem. I all ways prefer one size larger tire on the rear. It makes it a little more beefy'er Aug 12, 2013

Kevin O: That tire should do you well in respect to handling. If they could haqve alittle longer ntread wear would be sweet but allin all a great tire for what you need Aug 14, 2013

John G: The combination of tires that you mention is the exact combination that I use on my 2006 Sportster CL 883 Custom. This was what was installed on my bike as original equipment. I have put roughly 85,000 miles on the bike and have gotten between 15,000 and 20,000 miles on each set of tires. I may have been pushing the limits on tire wear when I replaced them but I am definitely satisfied with the performance and durability of this tire combination. Oct 2, 2013

A shopper asked: Will this tire replace my front MT90B16? It is on a HD 97 Heritage Softaill Jan 14, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Joel P: The Dunlop Harley-Davidson D402, Metzeler ME880 Marathon, and Dunlop Elite 3 Bias are available in MT90B16 size. Some online cross-references suggest that the MT90B16 can be replaced with a 130/90-16 but we recommend verifying that with your Harley dealer first. Jan 31, 2012
