Arai could have made it to allow air flow upward
Installed this on my new XD4 helmet; the styling is great and protects my face while the visor is open. Since I have not ridden in a very cold weather, I am not sure how it would affect the air flow to the visor when closed... From looking at it, this may decrease the air flow by a lot, and the visor may be fogged up in a cold morning.

Works...if you don't have a huge honker
This is a piece of flexible rubber/plastic stuff that snaps into the front of the helmet and helps direct your breath down and away from the shield, helping stop fogging.
It works. Well actually.

BUT

I've got a large nose. This hits right on the bridge of my schnozz and makes it uncomfortable for any extended use. I tried remolding it a little. Didn't really help much.
So it didn't work for me, for any extended use, but when I did ride with it, it did work quite well.

Nice Add-On, Tight Fit
The only thing I have not liked about my XD-4 is how quick the shield fogs. This has helped this issue, not made it go away, just made it less.

This should come standard with the XD-4, but alas I didn't mind paying 10 bucks for it. It took me about 20 min to get it to fit properly. It was just a tight fit. Other than that great product.

works but a pin lock would be better
it was relatively easy to install and looked good but if you have a bigger face like me then your nose will rub and can cause irritation. it helps prevent fogging but the helmet should have come with it as standard and its effective as a first line of daffiness for fog and cold eyes but a pin lock is far superior to prevent fog.

Didn't work out as planned
When I installed my breath guard it made fogging on my shield worse when stationary. Once I got moving it wouldn't let the cold air back to the shield as easily to regulate the temperature and clear up the fogging. It also deflected the wind that sneaks under the chin bar right under my glasses. I gave it a shot for a week and removed it from my XD-4.

I'm not sure how to install this breath guard. Do I install it onto the rubber external seal or onto the part just inside the seal? It seems difficult no matter which part I try to put it on. Is there a trick to it?
Myles M on Oct 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It stuffs down in between the helmets shell and the inner hard part in front if your mouth. It does not go under the face shield gasket. Hope that helps. Money is probably better spent on the Pinlock visor and insert if you are having fogging problems and can stomach the price.
Does this fit XD3 as well?
