Good quality product....good protection for sunny days
My wife loves this shield since she is very sensitive to the sun.....that is the reason that I bought it.....it offers good protection once you have it on the helmet......not very easy to install but once you follow the instructions it never comes off or gets loose.

It is not that dark. I've been riding before dawn and you can see perfect.

I bought a used wing several years ago, and it came with two Aria helmets, one of which had the dark shield. I hit black ice in January and went down ruining my helmet. I decided to stick with Aria and got the new Ram XC. I rode with the clear shield and it drove me crazy. I prefer the dark shield by far.

This is a nice Arai Quality shield, the method of removal/install is a bit of a pain but fine once you do it a few times. The medium shield isnt worth it as I would have rather had the Dark Shield which is out of stock everywhere, popular or discontinued I don't know which... Good optical qualities when closed....

Dave W:I ride a Goldwing, so if it gets too dark I can just raise the shield. I bought the darkest one and love it. I have left before and around sunset, and really don't have any problems....throw rain into the situation, and it may be an issue. I haven't had the clear one on since '09. I would say it is about the same as sunglasses.Sep 23, 2013
The darker shield is like sunglasses, so using it before sunrise is not ideal. This is the one I use to protect my face from the sun, particularly in multi-day trips. I also wear a transparent sunglass with reading correction to better follow the GPS. Because of it, I just flip the visor open when it gets too dark.
Another option is to get the mid-tint visor which is a good compromise. I used this type under all light conditions with no problem. I switched to the dark one because I developed skin sensitivity to the sun. La edad no perdona...Sep 24, 2013
Brent S:I'd compare it to a set of dark sunglasses. I wouldn't wear it in the dark just as I wouldn't wear sunglasses in the dark. I'd say you need a little light to see well enough but doesn't have to be mid daylight. It looks darker tinted from the outside than it does looking from the inside out. I don't have much trouble during sunset but once the sun goes does its pretty dark. Very happy with it overall. The few times I knew I'd be out past dark I just put the stock visor in. Sep 23, 2013
I bought the darker shield this last january and it is dark. I use it all the time, day and night but it´s true that at night things are dark and sometimes it´s hard to see. It´s not terrible but you have to be careful.
