Mirrored Lens
I was looking for something darker to fit my RX-Q so I could:
1)Not have to wear sunglasses under the shield
2)make it so people can't see my hideous leprosy boils (not really, but we all know a bit of mystery on what's inside a motorcycle helmet is always good, especially when you're riding like a hooligan)
3)be able to see in the occasional nighttime ride without swapping lenses

I decided on the mirrored lens because it would be dark enough during the day (darker than the light smoke), and allow some more light at night (more than the dark smoke)

Mirror Shields are best for the heat!!
After reading some general information about mirror vs tinted films and found the the mirror reflects way more of the heat while not needing to be too dark looking out. Guess why big office buildings have reflective mirror windows. This shield is like night and day with the heat. With it reflecting the sun and having the air vents, It's like an air conditioned room as opposed to the greenhouse room you get with clear in the sun. The dark tint still absorbs the heat and tries to dissipate it, but half of that is still in your helmet. Everyone worries about how much they can see out of the tinted one's while I wanted to make sure that not only you could see, but it cooled down my face. The mirrored one is the best of both worlds and I really don't know why more people don't use these. What a great find and best purchase I've made all year!

Silver Tinted Mirror
Purchased this about a year ago and it worked great for around 6 months but it gets scratched up VERY easily. You should probably clean it very frequently as to not get anything to damage the tint. I dont use it anymore because it blurs my vision while riding because of the scratches. Just a heads up to take care of it otherwise it will be money down the drain.

Purple Mirror Arai SAI Faceshield
I went back and forth trying to decide between the dark smoke or purple mirror faceshield. My sole purpose of moving away from the clear faceshield is daytime protection and I was also having issues with headlights at night looking like starbursts. The price difference between the dark smoke and purple mirror was pretty significant which I didn't think was justified, but besides the purpose of the faceshield, I liked the look of the purple mirror. I ultimately decided on the purple mirror and paid the extra.

I am very happy with my decision. I am worried about the faceshield scratching easily, but I knew that before purchasing the product. So now I tend to baby my helmet as opposed to before when I wasn't so worried about it.

It definitely helps with the sun just fine during the day time. I have used it when the sun was starting to go down (dusk) and I didn't have a hard time seeing as it got darker. The faceshield is dark enough to help with the blinding sun, but not too dark to where it's blinding as the sun started to set.

All in all, I would definitely recommend the purple faceshield.

The silver mirror is great for day and night use!
I got this product mainly because I was looking for a reflective mirror finish visor for my corsair v. This one matched my helmet the best and I couldn't be happier. As it is OEM, it fits perfectly and the vision is great. The tint is at a perfect level where I am not blinded on bright sunny days, and when it gets dark I can still see quite well compared to dark smoke visors.
The only issue I have is that I can slightly see my own reflection on the inside, but I got used to that.

Silver Mirror - Perfect for a sunny day
I wanted a second visor for my Signet-Q and figured I'd roll the dice on the silver mirror. This is a terrific addition to my helmet. The tinted silver visor is a light smoke and perfect for morning to evening use.

I prefer to wear my contacts and ditch the glasses (I wear them enough throughout the week) so the only option was to get a tinted visor. They are the perfect tint for most riding, have almost no glare but do fog a bit in cooler weather. I didn't think to check if they make this in a pin-lock version.

If you need a 2nd visor and are thinking about getting a tinted one, the silver mirror visor can't be beat.

It's an Arai accessory. It's expensive, but high quality.
I purchased the "Dark Smoke" visor for my RX-Q helmet in Hi Viz Yellow. That helmet has several black accents so this complements it. More importantly, it does what it's supposed to on bright and sunny days to help me see better.

I'm going to pick up a "Light Smoke" for cloudy days since those are the conditions where Hi Viz colors are brightest and most effective. Dark smoke visors on very cloudy days are too dark for me, however I know riders who wear dark smoke even at night; I never risk that.

Great Tintet Shield!
I purchased the Dark Smoke shield for an RX-Q. Great for riding during the day, but I wouldn't suggest it for nighttime use at all. The shield dropped into the helmet easily the first time, no issues. The brow vents were a bit tight at first, but loosed-up up after a few uses.

Does not fog, yellow adds contrast for driving both day and night
I mainly purchased this insert for the yellow contrast increasing tint. Years ago I remember seeing an ad for very expensive “blue blocker” (yellow tinted) sun glasses for several hundred dollars that increased clarity and contrast. This insert is considerably less expensive, and it does thee same job. It works wonderfully well, day and night. And since I live in a dry area, that was the end of that.

However, on a trip to the Rocky Mountains I had the opportunity to ride through driving rain mixed with hail and fog. I was ascending Pike's Peak at the time. The conditions were so bad that the left lens of my spectacles fogged up! (Thankfully the right one stayed clear.) The Arai SAI Max Vision Pinlock Insert w/ Brow Vents did not even threaten to fog up! This Pinlock insert is incredible! Would that I have had this during my first fifteen years of riding in the Pacific Northwest (a.ka. The Pacific NorthWet).

If you ride in a climate in which your helmet is prone to fogging, you *need* the Arai SAI Max Vision Pinlock Insert w/ Brow Vents visor insert. I have never seen anything as fog resistant as this.

Having said that, I live in a very dry climate now, and shield fogging is the least of my worries. I just really, really like the added contrast of the yellow Pinlock insert. I use it along with the Arai Pro Shade system.

The Arai SAI Max Vision Pinlock Insert w/ Brow Vents is a little challenging to get in, but I have found the results well worth the effort.

Upgraded to the dark smoke visor. I much prefer a dark visor, and they can be shaped out pretty easily. If I'm out after dark (rare for me), I keep a pair of clear motorcycle specific glasses under the seat that still provides eye protection.

A shopper on Sep 4, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I think the Profile uses a SAL faceshield (not the SAI).
How dark are the purple and/or blue mirror shields, and how sensitive are they to scratches--will regular riding conditions affect the quality of the shields?
A S on Jul 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: They are more sensitive to scratches then regular shield. If you take them off and wash them as suggest Vs using a cleaning cloth they should last you 3-4 seasons no problem.I had 5 or 6 of these. be careful of knock-offs out there those will peal!
I am very picky though so I get one every 3 seasons if I get more then few scratches.
As far as being dark they are about the same BUT due to reflective coating you might get a slight reflection inside the helmet .I logged over 50k miles on mirror shields no real problems and they look cool. But if its a track day and I had to choose between the reg. or mirror I would go go with regular dark...just me
I wear prescription glasses AND sunglasses. The clear default shield is insufficient for riding in direct sunlight wearing glasses (e.g. early morning before sun gets over trees and left home sans sunglasses).

Better to buy a lighter shield to wear with glasses OR sunglasses...

...OR...

Buy the darkest shield I can handle to ride with just glasses?
A shopper on Mar 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I can tell you that the mirror shield still allows a bit of heavy light in. For instance, if I have my helmet on (equipped w mirror shield) I can look in the mirror and see my face relatively clearly (in the right light anyway). I find myself squinting when riding into direct sunlight as well. All in all it's a good shield but I do wish It had further protest in against direct sunlight from its glare/brightness.

In comparison, I have a Shark dark smoke shield for my rsr2 and no matter how hard you look you will NEVER see my face through that. I'd be able to ride straight at the sun with ZERO glare/brightness issues.

I do not recommend riding in low light conditions w the Arai mirror shield. It's dark enough to make me feel pretty insecure when the sun isn't out (pre dawn/post dusk) but fine on cloudy days.

I do not wear glasses of any kind ever while riding. I'd be curious if the dark smoke tint from arai is any "darker" than the mirror tint. At the end of the day, you may not even find the PERFECT shield but I think I have the perfect helmet from arai (defiant black w/orange stripe :D ) and the mirror shield compliments it very well! Good luck!
Are the mirrored shields darker than the dark smoke?
A shopper on Dec 3, 2013
BEST ANSWER: No, the mirrored shields actually are of a lighter tint. I have both the dark and mirrored visors.
Hey guys:

1. What will give me that dark, can't see my face mirrored look?
2. How is the fogging on these visors?
Justin L on Nov 6, 2013
BEST ANSWER: 1) I have the mirror visor and it's nearly impossible to see into it. At the right angle w the right lighting, however, you can see faintly through it. It doesn't appear that the dark smoke tint is blacked out like the schuberth SR1 darkest. I had a shark RSR2 dark smoke that also was completely blacked out. In person and in pics the SAI just doesn't appear that dark. The shark visor is thicker so that could add to the blackout effect as well.

2) I've got the arai defiant and fog isn't an issue when I have the breath deflector incorporated as well as the front chin/mouth vent slightly open one click (indirect air flow). Opening the brow vents causes an obnoxious whistle and I haven't noticed any aid with fog perfection so don't use those but a friend w a vector model says they help greatly.

Cheers and good luck!
I am looking for glare reduction, especially around sunset and at night. I've tried yellow glasses, which do work, but don't stay on my nose. Is the Gold Mirror shield suitable for this purpose? That is, does the Gold Mirror shield reduce glare AND can it be worn at night safely?
A shopper on Nov 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: In case you don't hear from someone with the gold mirror... I have the silver mirror. It does a passable job when riding towards the sun low in the sky. I'd prefer darker (and polarized) for that situation though. I can't ride at night with it. It might be okay on really well lit streets, but I wouldn't recommend it. Overall I think it is a decent compromise. The tinting is enough most of the time and I can ride further into dusk before I have to swap it out with my clear one.
Will this visor fit an Arai Astro R helmet?
A S on Nov 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes but pricing by manufacturer has always been too high It seems like we will sell them a good helmet at a reasonable price and then we will gouge them if they need any parts
Does this product fit the signet-gt helmet?
A shopper on Sep 18, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I personally do not know for sure, I have it on the Corsair V, works great there. Bought the light tint and love it!
Would this shield fit on a arai astral? thanks.
A shopper on Jul 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: My only experience is that it does work on the Vector 2. Please consult another regarding the Astral. Sorry I couldn't help.
