Arai: mo money, mo money Another expensive Arai purchase. $600 for the helmet, $40 for the cheek pads that make it fit properly and then $50+ for this thing. Thanks Arai. September 2, 2014
Great product Bought the dark smoke tint faceshield since sunglasses don't seem to fit too well in the Arai helmets. Works perfectly, even on the brightest days don't need glasses under the visor anymore. August 24, 2014
Great, but no place to put pinlock anti-fogging lense I absolutely love this gold mirror face shield. I helps so much since I ride when it is around 5-7 pm (sun shines directly in my face) so I had to get a dimmed visor. I have the arai defiant 'character' helmet and it's amazing with the gold mirror. The ONLY FAULT is that when I got the faceshield I was a bit dissapointed. There are no studs to place the pin lock anti-fogging lense inside the helmet, so points off for that. I do recommend this product to everyone! August 19, 2014
Good quality addition to Arai helmets I bought this in dark smoke to complement the clear pin-lock that came with the Signet-Q. The brow vents are good, the optical quality is great. When closed all the way, there is very little wind noise on my mostly naked bike. August 19, 2014
Arai SAI Dark Smoke Shield Not much to say here other than it looks the business on my Corsair V and does a great job filtering UV rays. The shield change is not as cumbersome as I remembered it to be on Arai helmets. In terms of noise I think that has to do with the hole package. The Arai Corsair five is like a wind tunnel compared o my AGV Pista or even my Shoei X-Twelve. The brow vents do provide a little extra ventilation, and the visual field is pretty wide which is extremely important on the street where I do all my riding. Bottom line is if you're looking for a tinted shield for your Arai helmet and are currently wearing sunglasses in your helmet, ditch 'em and grab yourself one of these. August 14, 2014
Dark Smoke Arai faceshield for RX-Q I bought this for my wife's RX-Q helmet to replace her clear visor. As you would expect with an OEM replacement part, it snapped right into place and looks great. The dark smoke is great for daytime use since she was using sun glasses previously. Now there is no need. Also, dark smoke against the black helmet really makes it look great. This color may be a tad dark for night time use. August 4, 2014
Another great product from Arai. My Signet Q originally came with the Pinlock visor which was okay but didn't have the clarity I prefer. I bought the SAI shield in dark smoke and clear. Both are great and the clarity is excellent. Highly recommended. August 1, 2014
Nice nuetral color temp. This product is really nice. Glare is gone and the mirror purple finish is cool. Enough tint that you can use it at low light conditions. The color temp is also neutral, which cut down glare and eye fatigue is decreased. Installation is pretty easy, once you get the right technique down, no more than ten seconds. it has a deep purple look, and depending how the light hits there is some gold. Icing on the cake is that it looks cool. Where form meets function. July 23, 2014

A S asked: How dark are the purple and/or blue mirror shields, and how sensitive are they to scratches--will regular riding conditions affect the quality of the shields? Jul 20, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Mark F: They are more sensitive to scratches then regular shield. If you take them off and wash them as suggest Vs using a cleaning cloth they should last you 3-4 seasons no problem.I had 5 or 6 of these. be careful of knock-offs out there those will peal!
I am very picky though so I get one every 3 seasons if I get more then few scratches.
As far as being dark they are about the same BUT due to reflective coating you might get a slight reflection inside the helmet .I logged over 50k miles on mirror shields no real problems and they look cool. But if its a track day and I had to choose between the reg. or mirror I would go go with regular dark...just me

SHAFAZ M: Hi there,
I bought the dark smoke shield.
It's amazing in the summer for those bright sunny days and I also ride with them at nights, which might be a bit too dark but you just have to be more aware of your surroundings.
In term of sensitivity to scratches I never had any issues, just clean it with water or windex and paper towel or a microfiber rag.
I ride all the time with this shield and no issues so far.
I'm actually thinking of getting the mirror shield also.
Hope this helps your decision.

George T: Mirror (Iridium) shields are VERY delicate. If a bug hits one hard enough it can create a tiny ding in the finish that will look like a Christmas light. Forget sand grains, etc.

Harder to clean and need a lot for TLC. If you're a serious rider, stay away. If you want to look cool sitting in a parking lot, YMMV ;)

A S: Thanks, that was exactly what I wanted to know. I'm not an off-road rider, mostly street, so I believe I should do just fine in a mirrored shield, and will take your advice on the cleaning and care.

Happy riding!

A shopper asked: I wear prescription glasses AND sunglasses. The clear default shield is insufficient for riding in direct sunlight wearing glasses (e.g. early morning before sun gets over trees and left home sans sunglasses).

Better to buy a lighter shield to wear with glasses OR sunglasses...

Buy the darkest shield I can handle to ride with just glasses?

Christopher L: I can tell you that the mirror shield still allows a bit of heavy light in. For instance, if I have my helmet on (equipped w mirror shield) I can look in the mirror and see my face relatively clearly (in the right light anyway). I find myself squinting when riding into direct sunlight as well. All in all it's a good shield but I do wish It had further protest in against direct sunlight from its glare/brightness.

In comparison, I have a Shark dark smoke shield for my rsr2 and no matter how hard you look you will NEVER see my face through that. I'd be able to ride straight at the sun with ZERO glare/brightness issues.

I do not recommend riding in low light conditions w the Arai mirror shield. It's dark enough to make me feel pretty insecure when the sun isn't out (pre dawn/post dusk) but fine on cloudy days.

I do not wear glasses of any kind ever while riding. I'd be curious if the dark smoke tint from arai is any "darker" than the mirror tint. At the end of the day, you may not even find the PERFECT shield but I think I have the perfect helmet from arai (defiant black w/orange stripe :D ) and the mirror shield compliments it very well! Good luck!

A s: I have the same issue. I wear prescription sunglasses for driving, but hate wearing them for riding with my RX-Q.

I have the Clear Pin-Lock SAI shield for night riding, and a Mirror shield for Daylight riding and it works well. I can still wear my prescription glasses (clear lenses) with the Mirror shield if I need to but usually get away with just the Mirror shield.

The Shield on my RX-Q is pretty easy to change (after a few practice swaps I finally got the hang of it), so I bought the padded ZLA Shield cover and carry both shields with me.

Peter J: The lighter shield will be more versatile throughout the riding day and will not require a change to the clear shield at dusk. If you do have continuous issues with sun on the commute I suppose the dark shield makes sense and you can switch to the clear shield for the evening ride. I always keep the clear shield with me on rides. Hope this helps. Mar 22, 2014

Justin L asked: Hey guys:

1. What will give me that dark, can't see my face mirrored look?
2. How is the fogging on these visors?
Nov 6, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Christopher L: 1) I have the mirror visor and it's nearly impossible to see into it. At the right angle w the right lighting, however, you can see faintly through it. It doesn't appear that the dark smoke tint is blacked out like the schuberth SR1 darkest. I had a shark RSR2 dark smoke that also was completely blacked out. In person and in pics the SAI just doesn't appear that dark. The shark visor is thicker so that could add to the blackout effect as well.

2) I've got the arai defiant and fog isn't an issue when I have the breath deflector incorporated as well as the front chin/mouth vent slightly open one click (indirect air flow). Opening the brow vents causes an obnoxious whistle and I haven't noticed any aid with fog perfection so don't use those but a friend w a vector model says they help greatly.

Cheers and good luck!

Holden L: If you get dark smoke (not mirrored), people can see the outline of your face, but they can't see your expression.

Fogging is a problem with these face shields if you ride in stop-and-go traffic. Even with the RX-Q's chin vent all the way down and the shield slightly open in defog mode, the shield fogs up, especially in cool, damp weather. So I have to open the shield a bit to clear the fog. It doesn't fog on the highway, but I commute on 35mph and 45mph roads with a few stoplights, and I get fogging when I stop at lights and sometimes when drivers in front of me are forcing me to go 30mph or under. I broke down and got a Pinlock visor.

Kent B: The Dark smoke visor is not mirrored but does not reveal your face to onlookers.
I have one and like it for summers.
Fogging is like any other face shield...depends on ambient air temperature and humidity your are riding in. This visor does not offer any particular advantage or anti-fogging capability over any other visor I have worn.

Allen C: I have the Blue Mirror Shield and its almost the same as the Dark Smoke Tint. I wouldn't use it at night. Best conditions would be any time there is sunlight. Even when it is beginning to get dark it's still good to use. But once it is actually dark you'll have a little trouble seeing. Jun 11, 2014

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Michael J: The Dark smoke is the darkest of them all. I would equate it to wearing black sunglasses. It seems they transition with the intensity of the sunlight. When it is cloudy outside they do not impair your vision, however I would not recommend them at night. May 20, 2013

A shopper asked: Good day! I recently purchased a 2003 Triumph Sprint ST, which is silver in color. I would like to purchase an Arai Signet-Q and would like to color-match it to the bike. I see that there are 3 different color helmets, all very close to silver in color. I was wondering is anyone could tell me what solid color Signet-Q helmet would best match the factory silver on this triumph? Thanks very much for your assistance. May 13, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The Saphire Silver has a subtle blue tint to it, so most likely would not be a perfect match to your Triumph. Next comes the Diamond Grey, which looks dark and mysterious, but might be a shade too dark for your bike. Last is the Aluminum Silver, which is right in between the two, and should be juuuuust right. Goldilocks approved. May 28, 2013
