The Dark Smoke is great on my Arai Corsair RX-7 helmet. Images are clear during the day. It's just a little darker at night, but everything is still visible. I get a lot of comments on how sleek it looks with the dark faceshield compared to the stock clear faceshield.
My only gripe about the Arai helmets: the face shield is hard to install! Taking the old shield off is a cinch but the install is the painful part. I wish they provided better instructions. After a few attempts, i just Googled it and had to watch a YouTube video. Even after watching the video, I had to try a few more times to finally get it in. I was so afraid I was going to break it.

After 5 yrs with an Icon Hooligan helmet, I upgraded to an Arai RX-Q. I had gone through about 5 face shields on the Icon. Usually, the shield would scratch within a month. The Arai shield is 4 months old and is perfectly fine. Also, this shield system is so much stronger so I can ride with the shield half-way open without the shield flying up. Airflow is beautiful. Only negative is that the install takes some time to get used to.

I was a bit concerned before buying, whether this dark-smoke would be in fact too dark. Not the case! I'm very happy with it. I'm in California, so sun is up almost 300 days per year, so definitely needed a tinted shield, rather than puting sun-glasses on/off a million times a day. No distorsion in the visor.
I have a black helmet, with dark-smoke visor - really gives you a badass look. Definitely recommend!

Recently ordered the Arai Dark Smoke SAQ face shield for my Arai Quantum 2 helmet to help with riding into the rising or setting sun. Works very well to reduce glare. Fit and finish are excellent. Well worth the price! Probably won't be using my clear face shield again for any daytime riding since the difference this dark smoke shield makes is amazing.

If you want a shield for your Arai other than a clear one and want it to fit right, etc, there really isn't much of a choice other than "pay the piper". That being said, the "built in" vents are nice and it seems to be a quality product, like the helmet itself.

I have a clear shield Quantum-II. I am considering buying a tinted screen (dark smoke or light smoke). I just have a small concern whether the dark smoke is not too dark... I live in California, so it's pretty sunny here ;)

it's not too dark, especially if you are in california. I'm in los angeles, and the dark smoke screen is fine. it may just be a tad darker in the night time compared to what you are used to on the clear, but everything is still visible.Age: 25-34

I haven't tried the dark smoke color from Arai but i have tried the Scorpion version of it and looked through many others. In my experience no tint on the market is too dark for daytime riding and most tints are too dark for night-time riding.You don't want to get caught after sunset with a tinted visor and having to ride with it up to see. Better to use a clear visor with sunglasses that can be easily removed than have to get bug splats in your eyes while riding in the dark with your tinted visor up.
If you never ride at night then you'll probably be ok with whatever strikes your fancy.
