I chose to buy this jacket because I wanted a completely waterproof outfit, not a jacket with a waterproof liner and I didn't want to stop to put on 'rain gear'. (Western Washington State rains a lot.) This jacket best fit my list of needs compared to all other jackets.
I bought this jacket in a Medium, had to exchange for a Large, cause what size 8 (US) isn't thrilled to be considered a LARGE! I used the size guide but it was barely just too small. I'm 5'7 1/2 (5'8" when I stand very tall) and 140-145lbs. It's a tiny bit boxy in the waist but I cinch up the velcro and it's fine, and the shoulders fit. I have long arms (and legs, the Stella Drystar pants are barely long enough.) I am not sitting behind anyone on the moto, but riding myself on a sport tourer, so arm length in a jacket is a big consideration for me when I reach for the grips. (The pants pull up a lot when I pull up my legs to put my feet on the pegs.) The jacket arm length fits fine when I'm in riding position, could be 1/2 inch longer, but it's all ok. I have long gloves. I was in a heavy rain for several hours and the jacket did well, the sleeve area by the cuff got wet but I stayed dry. It took a few hours in front of the hotel heater to dry the outer layer of my gear, but I stayed dry. The next day was also very wet and I stayed dry with this Alpinestars Stella outfit (pants too). The jacket has good cross zipping to keep you dry, it's an easy jacket to wear, not complicated to zip up. Seems well made, comfortable. I took out the insulated liner and put on my Gerbings so I can't speak to the warmth. Gerbings keep me cozy. However, the frustrating part of this jacket is it's only good for cold/cool weather, I think in the heat I would melt, because there are no vents anywhere. I compromised to be sure I would keep dry in the rain which is very important to me. Another issue I have is the color choice of the jacket. Black or black and cream - which is really a taupe/tan/brown. I wanted something bright, would have loved a red, because I want to be SEEN in the mirror of the guy in the car next to me. So, Alpinestars, not everyone wants to wear all black and not everyone wants to wear a reflective vest while riding so they can be seen. It could use more reflective strips too. So I also bought a Rev'It Siren for summer wear, it has vents, a waterproof liner, and it's RED!
