Yoshimura RS-4 Street Slip-On Exhaust Triumph Tiger 800 / XC / XCX / XR / XRX

While the RS-4 Exhaust was debuted as Yoshimura's premier exhaust for off-road racing applications, R&D couldn't stop there. They have mated this sophisticated and stylish muffler to compliment the styling of the new bike. The RS-4 is pentagonal shaped muffler that features a carbon fiber cone end cap, two staged stepped baffle and striking good looks. The RS-4 muffler features a new front cap design that functions as a polyresonant chamber. thus creating a more quiet muffler with improved mid to top end power.

Along with improving sound and power, this system moves the muffler weight lower and closer to the bike for improved handling and weight distribution. Yoshimura continues to provide the best in performance exhaust systems.

Features:

  • Pentagonal-shaped sleeve
  • Front muffler cap functions as a polyresonant chamber which helps reduce noise
  • Two-stage stepped baffle
  • Carbon fiber end-cap
  • Stainless steel mid-pipe (applicable models)
  • Made in the USA

As a previous reviewer put it so eloquently, just not for me.
So I'm going with 3 stars on this bad boy and here's why. Fit and finish are amazing, I mean this is a a beautiful pipe. However, and this is the kicker, the exhaust drone at ~5000 RPMs is simply painful. Painful as in I can't ride on the highway without this thing rattling my brain. It isn't the decibels per say, it's more the resonance at and around 5000 RPMs that is just awful. I tried working with the Revzilla tech guys and they truly tried to help me find an alternate baffle, but Yoshimura part numbering is awful and we couldn't find a quiet baffle part number for this particular pipe.

I purchased a Leo Vince from Revzilla and just put it on tonight. Much better and I can ride at freeway speeds again.

One more note, the new exhaust shield on this model interfered with my (Bumot) panniers and had to be grinded off. I'd imagine the bolts for the shield could interfere with other pannier racks as well.

Just not for me
I replaced my stock can with this product primarily to reduce weight and add a little sound. After a 200 mile ride (80 in dirt and 120 on highways) I had to put the stocker back on. The tone of the exhaust at highway speed just drones on for a torturous ride home. I have aftermarket pipes my other bikes but this one just drove me crazy. The exhaust is lighter and styled nice and fit well, but I just couldn't stand the tone.

Much improved sound for my Tiger XC
I had read the other reviewers who disliked the "drone" sound in the mid-revs, but had read others who liked it, so I rolled the dice. It arrived very quickly (the next day), perfectly packaged, clear instructions. Literally a ten minute installation--it took longer to wipe it down afterwards to remove finger and hand prints (so as not to spot discolor when it gets hot). This exhaust is shorter and much thinner than the stock one, so I like the look on the bike. Sound-wise, it has a more aggressive growl but it isn't very loud. The resonant tone at 4 to 6,000 RPM is potent, but not excessive (and for most rides, I wear ear plugs, anyway). One minor snag--the pipe exhaust path is straight onto the starboard rear side reflector which hangs from a wide bracket low on the rear fender/license plate hanger. A three hour ride resulted in a melt-y distortion of said reflector. Not a major setback in my book, but I haven't problem-solved a solution just yet (will likely make the bracket more narrow to pull the reflector out of the exhaust stream). It's made beautifully, so I gave it full marks for durability even though I've got fewer than 800 miles put through it.

Great product.
So far this has been a great buy. Shipped and delivered quicker than expected and I was extremely pleased with the updates from Revzilla. Had my old can off and the Yoshi bolted on in less than 6 minutes. Fit and finish is excellent and it sounds great. Still has that triple sound, just a little louder and throatier, bit more of a crackle on the overrun and the sewing machine "zing" is gone. It drones a bit on the highway, depending on speed/rpm but I usually wear headphones anyway. I haven't had it long enough to rate the durability but it seems very well made - it's titanium and carbon fibre. Overall I'm very pleased with it.

great price and sound
First refills is amazing. They price matched this for me with no issue in minutes. Sound is greAt. It's loud but not deafening! Easy to install. I emailed yoshimura to ask if I had to remap the bike for the new exhaust. No lie in 10 minutes someone called me with the answer. That is amAzing. And it does not need to be remapped. Great product great purchase.

I chose this pipe due to it's brand build quality and sound. I heard this pipe on a Tiger 800 XC and it sounded great! Has a great deep throaty sound that is not too loud.

How much does this weigh? (Tiger 800)

Thank you, Edmund.
kuyohtay on Aug 9, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Sorry Edmund I gave you a wrong answer. I thought I was commenting on K60 tire which I bought from RevZ.
Her is the correct answer for you. RS4 is about 30% lighter the the stock exhaust. Is also about 30% shorter.
It says this fits 2012-2013 Triumph Tiger 800. Does this fit the 2014 Triumph Tiger 800?
A shopper on Jul 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Looking at both year at the local Triumph shop, I see no difference. Should fit great. It is a superb little pipe, really sharp looking and the sound is sweet! Go for it!
does this come with a heat shield?
A C on Apr 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Mine came with a small carbon heat shield that covers a section of the mid-pipe. It's unfortunate though because the bracket blocked my pannier racks so I had to grind it off anyway.
Why is this not street legal in California? Anyone in CA own one?
Jerry A on Apr 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I do Jerry A. on my Triumph Tiger 800.
Looks very good, is relatively light, the price is affordable but for me is a bit loud.
To your question. The RS4 has not been approved by California Environmental Protection Agency.
I asked CHP officer "if I can get a citation for that"? He told me that it is very unlikely that I will get one but it can happen.
What you have to keep in mind is that no licensed mechanic will work on tuning engine to not street legal after market exhaust. That is the rule in CA.
For more info please call Yoshimura. I called them once and they are very helpful people.
Does this exhaust for the Tiger 800 XRX 2015 ?
A shopper on Apr 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes.
Does the quiet noise insert come with pipe or is it extra? If it's installed, how do you remove it? Does anyone else have experience with mapping other than arrow map?
A shopper on Jan 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Mine came with the insert. There is a hex screw at the end of the pipe the frees the insert from the can (widening the exhaust). Removing this insert makes the can noticeably louder. At idle this is great and does make the bike sound good, but it does add to the volume of the drone while on the road and that is annoying. I ride with the DB killer installed.
Hi,
Just wondering is the quiet noise insert removable?
A S on Jul 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It's removable. With the decibel insert in the can is still pretty loud on my Tiger 800XC. It sounds great at idle, and after installing the Arrow map it also sounds fantastic under load / deceleration.
Hi, the top box in the pictures...do you have it? Or know where I can get it? It's exactly what I'm looking for to put on my 2015 Triumph Tiger XRX. Thanks
