Yoshimura R77 Street Slip-On Exhaust Yamaha FZ8

The Yoshimura R-77 Slip-On Exhaust was designed with the needs of the racer in mind. Using the feedback received from the Yoshimura Road Racing Team, their designers came up with a muffler that is constructed from lightweight materials, grants a significant boost in power thanks to its high-flow trapezoidal shape and gives your bike a great sound without being excessively loud.  The muffler will help your engine make more power while reducing overall weight. The end result is an exhaust that will let your motorcycle reach its maximum potential!

Features:

  • Superbike technology and styling
  • Trapezoidal-shaped sleeve
  • Straight baffle for ample flow
  • Innovative end-cap
  • Stainless steel mid-pipe (applicable models)
  • Made in the USA

Looks and sounds great
Really easy to install. Sounds way better than stock. A lot louder at low rpms and a little louder at high rpms, but a much deeper growl everywhere. It's not excessively loud so I haven't used the db killer, but I probably would put it in for a longer highway trip.

Easy upgrade
I had been meaning to do this since I got my bike, I'm happy it turned out this well. It was pretty easy took me about 45 minutes to do and I'm not all that handy.

I'm not riding hard enough to notice any performance difference and unless I go for the powercommander next, I probably won't. I got the slip on because I liked the look of the carbon fiber and wanted something that sounded a little angrier than the stock exhaust. This delivered both, very well. I put the silencer in to keep my neighbors happy and I think I'll leave it, it's a good balance of angry but not too loud.

Will I need to tune my bike to use this product on my FZ8? Is it needed, preferred, or best? I have looked through the Installation pdf. and on Yoshimura's website and haven't found a definitive answer, please help.

BEST ANSWER: I haven't installed my exhaust yet, but i did a good amount of research before buying on this subject. A new exhaust (like the r77) will allow more air through the engine system, causing the bike to run slightly lean. Because the change is not a large amount, the stock ECU should be able to adjust for the difference, so tuning the bike, either with a PCV/Bazzaz/ECU reflash isn't necessary. If you want the most power out of the mod however, tuning the bike will allow you to get the full potential of the exhaust. If, like me, your more in it for the sound/look its not necessary.

In general the rule of thumb i've heard for all bikes is this:

Just slipon, tune not needed (but if done, would increase power)

Slipon + K&N air filter or other intake mods, tune becomes more necessary

Full exhaust + intake mods, tune is required.

Hope this helps!
Hi what is the difference between this and the r77d? Also is there a difference between yoshimura Japan and yoshimura USA?

Thanks

BEST ANSWER: D - is for dual tip. Yoshi Japan v. USA are just for local market specs/restrictions.
