Must have for Iron 883
Like many already have said...after doing the research and reading multiple comments/reviews/recs, I went with the Shortshots, the Naked Air Intake, and the Fuel Pak.

First off the stuff was delivered so fast I couldn't believe it. Two days - super impressed with that part.

The change is almost comparable to purchasing a new ride altogether. The look is exactly what the Iron deserves and not overstated but appropriate. The change in sound is dramatic - yes much louder - for me (maybe I'm already deaf) the earplug thing is a bit overstated. Will the neighbors here me? For sure...but they could I'm happy for them that it sounds even more "Harley-esque".
Deeper thunder growl. Very nice.

I put on the Naked Air Intake also - but prior to mounting it I cut the shipping plastic carefully to only expose the center metal - primed it and sprayed it flat black. You could paint it whatever color you wanted - and the packaging makes it simple actually. Very easy to do.

Fuel Pak. I did it just because of so many reviews - I didn't even test ride it prior to the mapping. SO SO Simple. First ride out backfiring...nothing but pure awesomeness. So back in the box the Fuel Pak goes until I need it again. Maybe I'll venture into the "auto-tune" at some point, but it did exactly what it's advertised to so I'm happy.

Overall - it's not too bad of an install. Some bolts are tricky - I had tools everywhere - if you take your time and you're moderately handy with stuff like this it's not bad. A 95 degrees in Texas install adds the fun of sweating all over everything too.

Big thumbs up to Vance & Hines - stuff comes very nicely packaged and protected. Products are so well made and roadworthy. The instructions are mediocre - passable and in most cases if you take your time you can tell what they are saying. The Naked Air instructions were worse than the pipes but it can only go on one way so..

Buy with confidence - your bike will be forever changed - and you will get the Harley sound and edgier look.

Shipping was fast. Ordered these pipes on a Sunday afternoon and they were delivered by Tuesday just after lunch.

The instructions are really week, but the install was pretty easy. It took me about an hour. Just so you know what is involved; you will need to remove the old pipes, unscrew the air sensor both pipes, remove the forward brake controls and linkage by pulling the pin, then you will have to remove the belt cover to get at the bolts that allow you to remove the mounting brackets for the stock pipes. Once you have that done you can mount the new bracket and everything is pretty much in reverse putting the new pipes on. You will need all the tools listed on the instructions, but I also used a Dewalt impact gun to speed things up.

The Short Shots are a definite improvement! They are a lot louder and look great on my 2016 48. I recommend the pipes and it was fun putting them on myself. Next up air cleaner and fuel pack.

Perfect Bobber Pipes
Installed these pipes as a part of a stage one upgrade on my '14 Iron 883 (VO2 air intake, FP3). I also installed the V&H quiet baffles and love that setup. The look is perfect and the sound is awesome. Also, it seems like the quiet baffles will help with some back pressure that the stock baffles won't provide. Do yourself a favor and get a relatively long (at least 9") ratchet extension bar; it'll make the work with the header flange bolts WAY easier. Besides that, not much to the install. Great pipes; highly recommended.

Also, just a tip in the event you're worried about these pipes being too loud: check our Smartpartz Hard Kore Quiet baffles. I haven't tried them, but they seem to be a good solution if you're hoping to quite these pipes down more than the V&H quite baffles do. They may be in my future, since the pipes can get a bit loud on longer rides.

Iron 883
Great sounding pipes. They are loud, so be wary if you have easily annoyed neighbors. They have a 'snap' at light loads that I personally find a bit annoying, hopefully the Quite Baffles eliminate that. Easy to install, took me about an hour. Please note that the instructions assume you have mid controls. I found it much easier to install the front pipe with the forward control off until the exhaust was fully on, the instructions have you re-install the control after you put the belt drive cover back on.

If you are on the fence about ordering from Revzilla I cannot recommend them enough. I've ordered parts from various online vendors in the past and Revzilla is by far the best in regards to communication and customer service.

Cool exhaust but will annoy your neighbor. Perfect on the road not in the neighborhood.
Michael N on Apr 2, 2016
I chose this exhaust system for a few reasons. Primarily, it was within my budget. Secondly, because of the reviews on performance and lastly because of the sound, style and color. I must say, i made the right choice. Coupled with a high flow air intake it released the full potential of my Sportster 883. Now it sounds like a beast and performes as it should. Like a true HD Sportster 883! Thank you Revzilla for pricematching and the quick delivery! You guys F***ing ROCK!

Will this require flashing the ECM? If so, will that be included with the pipes? Will this product lower the bike's MPG rating? Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: I had these pipes on my 2013 48 and never noticed a difference in gas actually ran better than it could actually breath more!
When using the short shots, has anyone had any premature wear issues with their drive belt? I noticed the pipes end before the rear sprocket and thought the addition heat might cause an issue.

BEST ANSWER: can someone answer this please
Will I need to purchase any type of mounting hardware etc. or this will bolt on with factory hardware?
A shopper on Jan 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I just put these on my 2014 iron 883. Didnt need to purchase anything, but some loctite. They give you everything you need to mount them and some directions.
I want to install the Vance & Hines shortshots on my 2014 Harley Forty Eight without changing the aircleaner and without using a race tuner. Is this possible? What about my warranty if I only change the exhaust? Opinions?
A shopper on Jun 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I just put these pipes on my 2014 iron 883N about a month ago. I did a good amount of research and priced the costs out with HD and others. Overall I was advised (including by Revzilla) that I should add a fuel pack if I was going to do the full exhaust or change the air cleaner. HD was a bit reluctant the recommend the fuel pack...they preferred that I dyno tune the bike with them, but they were charging me over $500 just for that! In total HD was charging me about $1700 for the pipes, tuning, and changing the air filter.

I decided to get the Vance and Hines fp3 fuel pak and did everything myself, including changing the pipes. The tuning took ten minutes. So far I've spent about $700 plus my time.

Overall I've noticed a bit more vibration with my bike at idle. I've also noticed that my bike emits more engine heat than before. I'm thinking that this is because I haven't replaced the air cleaner and still have the stock cleaner on my bike. I'm planning on replacing to a high flow air filter within the next month in hopes of alleviating the extra vibration and heat.

I didn't inquire about the bike warranty, but I'm planing on having HD do a thorough check to make sure all is good once I'm due for my 1k oil change.

Will this fit with passenger pegs?
A shopper on May 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes it will but to put on the right side peg you need to remove the exhaust. It's a pain otherwise if you don't because their is not enough space because of the bracket that holds the exhaust.
Will this fit with passenger pegs?
A shopper on May 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes they do, even on small bikes like a sportster they do fit and I ride it all the time with my lady
Do the pipes come with standard baffles in them ?
Mike B on Jul 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, and they sound fantastic. What they don't come with is gaskets. Make sure you order those, and find a video on YouTube to show you how to dig the old gaskets out before installing the new ones. I also read somewhere that you should always install new manifold bolts. I didn't, and the V&H instructions even say to reuse the old ones, so take that for what it's worth.
Did anyone else need to replace the stock exhaust gaskets with some screaming eagle gaskets because of fitment issues?
daniel w on Jan 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I replaced my gaskets with new, HD gaskets when I installed these pipes, but not because of a fitment issue. I've read that it's good to install new gaskets when installing new exhaust. And they're cheap. In my (limited) experience, exhaust gaskets are pretty malleable. Maybe one or both of your old gaskets was deformed while you were removing the old exhaust and that caused the fitment issue. Bottom line, if you're sure you bought the right pipes for your bike and they installed fine with the new gaskets, I don't think you've got a problem.
Can I install Vance & Hines Short shots only on my 2014 Harley sportster 48? I mean, without another aircleaner and without a race tuner? What about my factory warranty if I only change the exhaust?

Tim Mouton
A shopper on Jun 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The ONLY thing that will affect your Harley manufacturers warranty is if the damage that occurs is from something YOU change on the bike. So let's say you change the exhaust and there's damage from back pressure being low (that won't and can't happen just using a hypothetical situation) that would be on you. Let's say you change the exhaust and the wiring shorts and blows fuses and your speedo cluster and it's not related. That falls under warranty work.

If the app on here says they specifically fit your 2014 48 I would only use them on that. Just verify what fits and what doesn't.

If I understand what you're saying as far as mixing brand names for exhausts air cleaners and tuners it doesn't matter. You can mix and max whatever you like. Just make sure the tuner you buy can replicate the other specs for different products.
