UCLEAR HBC200HD Helmet Bluetooth Communicator 4.4 5 7 7
Amazing clarity, but hard to make calls I purchased this unit specifically because its engineered for 1/2 helmets, and I was drawn to the fact it doesn't require a boom mic. I had the opportunity to use it extensively on a 5 day road trip recently with some friends who use Cardo units. As a single-user system, it's fantastic as far as sound quality for music, and was excellent when receiving a call. Callers were barely able to distinguish that I was on a Bluetooth system. They could hear me very clearly, even though I couldn't hear the sound of my own voice over the wind noise at 70+ mph with a shorty helmet. (I ride a Road King with a windshield#. Having said that, some of the button presses are a little awkward - double-tapping to fast-forward or single-tap to increase volume - if you didn't double tap fast enough, volume went up when not desired. That took a little while to get the hang of, but after a while it was okay. Trying to press the "main" button and one of the "up" or "down" buttons simultaneously wasn't easy either. The ear-buds have multiple tips for a wide range of ear sizes and I generally found them comfortable, with good sound quality, though not as good #as to be expected# as my Shures, or any other decent brand of buds. My major complaints involve 3 things: I could not get the unit to update to the newest firmware, no matter how many times I installed/uninstalled the updater software - and I tried several computers. The email I sent to Uclear Support 8 days ago now is still unanswered.... I use a Samsung Galaxy s5 phone, and no matter what, I could not voice-dial a call. I was able to initiate a call - but only using the redial button-combination...so effectively I could only call one number. I'm still trying to determine if this is an issue with the unit or the capabilities of the phone. #The instructions in the manual indicate a 2 second press of the main and up buttons to initiate a voice call, but all this did was redial the last number I called from the phone#. Pressing the main/down buttons for 2 seconds seemed to initiate the "s-voice" feature of the phone, but could only be used if the phone was capable of hearing your voice - so being in your pocket, while on the road prevents this. The mics don't seem to want to communicate with the phone's dialer. While I didn't attempt to pair with another Uclear device, I did try to pair with a Cardo - scala system. NO LUCK. This may be the result of not being able to do the Firmware update - I can't even find out what firmware version it's currently using. It also seems that it's not as simple as just linking up with another device and away you go .... they would have to pair their device with you, giving up a slot they may use for their GPS or phone. If there's 2 scalas and one Uclear, which one gets paired, and then you can only intercom with that person, not the other scala.....not as intuitive as they might have you believe. The bottom line for me is that the boomless-mic technology seems like it's capable of everything they say in terms of sound quality. Intercomming with other brands , and phone calling needs to be improved. I look forward to hearing any differing opinions or suggestions on how I could improve my experience with this product. It's worth the money! ! I was skeptical at first cause I have a loud full face helmet so I bought this package with the earphones , just in case , but wow was I wrong !! The speakers are loud and the calls are clear !! Noise cancelation works excellent !! Love it !! Couldn't be happier !!the speakers work so good I haven't even used the earphones ! I thought it wouldn't be loud enough but I had to turn it down after I noticed I could hear everything at highway speeds !! April 22, 2015
Great for what it is. Sound is good until anything above 60MPH, can still hear music but never all the lyrics depending on the volume of the song. In order to properly hear people on my ninja I have to tuck in under the windshield(double bubble) and pull the clutch in while talking. Mic picks up my voice very well, all depends on how good your helmet reduces air flow which also gives you better sound. I have the Bell vortex and having nothing else to compare to. Great product! I used to have a different helmet with the Sena SMH10R headset installed, and it worked very well during my commutes to work to listen to podcasts, directions, or even take phonecalls. It was, however, difficult to hear when going over 70mph, and the speakers in that unit made music sound so tinny that it wasn't worth it. When the above helmet/headset was stolen (grrrrr!), I went for the HBC200HD simply to try something else out. I'm using a totally different helmet now, so I can't give a direct comparison of the two products, but what I can say is that with the HBC200HD music sounds far better, and it seems to have better sound quality (or perhaps it's just louder), so I am able to clearly hear podcasts and audiobooks while commuting at highway speeds. I absolutely love this headset... There's no going back once you get one! September 2, 2014
A great product with enough extras The product is great. Easy to use/install and great clarity. The only exception is when using the call feature on a half helmet. The wind noice can be an issue. I also had a problem wth the extra speakers that came with the product but UClear sent me a replacement within days. August 18, 2014
Could'nt ask for more My first communication system and I couldn't think of anything else to add. Music sounds great. Answering a phone call with just saying hello. Link up to other Uclear users takes only a few minutes to figure out and setting up - but perfect. The only thing I can't speak to is durability - havent had a chance to put it through the paces. Great all around and cant imagine spending more $ for other units. June 24, 2014
Uclear is the bomb!!!! What a great product, we love it! We switched from Scalariders. We rode for several days on our honeymoon and did not charge them. They lasted great! One of my comm pods was acting weird the other day and as luck would have it the company is here in town. I went by thinking it was just not in the right place in my helmet and it was the pod. They replaced all of it!!! Great product, great company and great service. Perfect combination. You know you want a couple. March 20, 2014

A S: In order to have microphone capability to the 2014 radio, you will need to be wired. However, my local dealership is now selling a Bluetooth device for about $250 that fixes that. It basically is a Bluetooth unit wired to your plug that you would normally plug your headset into on your bike. I have seen it on a bike they are demo'ing it on, but am waiting for the warm weather to arrive and snow to melt before I buy this so I cannot personally speak to how well it works...maybe in April, but based on current weather here in Michigan...it will be more like May. A shopper asked: Not sure I understand the difference between the 200 and 200HD...is it only the longer mic design for the half-helmet rider? I can't find anything different in the specs, and the UCLEAR website's not very helpful in this regard either. Apr 9, 2014

A shopper asked: I wear a half helmet and would get the ear bug kit. I'm not sure if the bugs would stay in my ears or that they would bother me. Can I switch them out for better ear bugs? Apr 5, 2014

Roopesh S asked: From the pictures I can see that this device uses a mini-USB jack and socket. That seems to be slightly outdated tech and will force me to carry an extra charger just for this. Is this true? Or is it a micro-USB jack just like my phone. Today, my buying decision for this product depends on this. I want to use this with a Shark Raw. Jun 5, 2015

mike d: The cable supplied is required to charge it because it is not a common end that I can tell, however the cable can be plugged in to any standard charging device accepting standard usb. A wall plug device is provided for charging out of the wall. I use my laptop since it's just easier for me. However you charge your phone, you can charge this, you just need to use the provided cable. Nice unit. Jun 5, 2015

Eric R: I've gone at least a week without charging my u-clear, once fully charged. It charges pretty quick and u can charge it during down time. The device has an indicator light which is red during charging and turns blue once fully charged. Ur phone might go dead before ur uclear does. Uclear was the way to go for me and a lot of my biker friends. NO BS!!! Jun 5, 2015

Ty L: The charger is a mini USB like old cell phones. I will say that I lost my cord and the opening at the back of the device is to small for most cords to fit into so I had to modify one to work that I had laying around. This hands free device works great. No one ever has any idea I'm on the bike when I'm using it. Jun 10, 2015

Michael J: I've seen it done on youtube, and tried to find out how myself so I emailed uclear tech support. They confirmed yes you can and sent me these following instructions;
The HBC200 can connect to most any intercom system that is able to bluetooth to a phone. I have paired a G9 without issue here in the office. I will go through the steps and requirements below.

The cross brand intercom is a direct connection. The other brand thinks we are a cell phone, and when the Uclear starts its intercom, it will pull the "other brand" of intercom with it onto the Uclear's intercom network.

If you have any follow-up questions please do not hesitate to reply to this email.
Rules governing Cross Brand Intercom

1. The cross brand intercom connection is a direct connection. Since we establish the connection through the other units bluetooth by making think we are cell phone, it a direct connection.
2. The "other brand" will have to join the Uclears intercom. The Uclear unit cannot join another Brands intercom.
3. The Uclear needs to be on at least 2.07f firmware.
4. Only the Uclear can initiate intercom.

Cross Brand Paring instructions.
1. Turn on "Sena" unit.
2. "Sena" Initiate a bluetooth cell phone pairing. (This is in the Sena manual)
3. Uclear - From the off setting, press and hold the Uclear/Power button for ten seconds. It will turn on, turn off, and then turn back on into cross brand intercom pairing mode.
4. They should pair at this point. If you want to save the pairing, turn both units off, and back on again.

Greg A: The UClear connects to your bluetooth device (i.e. phone IOS, Androiid) so you can hear your music, or whatever you are playing on the device (which could be radio); but it does not have a separate FM receiver. May 12, 2014

Donald C: I don't have a Bell Rouge helment, but do have a HD half helment, and it has hard sides that covet just the ears. I was not able to use the metal ear speakers and had to use ear buds. Which I might have had to anyway, my pipes are really loud. But the microphones mount at the top/front of the helmet works fine. Took a while to get them set right but after a couple of attempts I got it right. The buds work great at any speed. The mic works good at lower speeds, but gets pretty bad around 60-65. I usually drop my face shield when I get on the phone and have had great conversation at 80-85.

I use it with wife on back usung Sena smh5 and it is great. And when we are in a group it is really easy to patch in and the range is fine.

These guys are great about returns. I recommend buying and you can always return them.
