If you purchase the ULEAR COMMUNICATORS AND used half helmet these are required. The UCLEAR COMMUNICATORS are the worse communicators I have bought. Paid good money for them as replacement for SENA. Big mistake. Thew background noise level was unbelievable using a half helmet. Attempt to contact Uclear technical help results in email contact only. They state you need these microphones. Bought them and yes they do help. Improves the sound but still picks up a lot of background noise. Very disappointed. September 7, 2015
Uclear what can you say? Excellent product, added these to our full face helmets after using the half helmet version. Great products from Uclear. August 6, 2015
Great for Music and Intercom I use this daily for music and I love that I can use voice control w/ my Iphone to make calls (peace of mind for emergency situations). On occasion I have a hard time communicating on phone calls, even at low speeds. I recently updated the firmware (uclear-digital.com) since it boasts "Improved High Speed Communication Speech Quality". After the update, I wasn't able to sync the intercom with other units. My riding group had to update theirs as well to get the intercom to work again. Uclear hasn't responded to email or phone calls. I like that this unit is small and matte black; some of the others brands appear clunky and are shiny silver. The GPS works great even when I have music playing. My only call out is there is a rubber "nub" on the back that sits on the mounting bracket; mine has worn down a bit which makes the unit slide around. I may need to build it back up with urethane or something to ensure I don't lose it at high speeds. March 11, 2015
Perfect for loud bikes Ride a heavily modded 2013 HD Vrod and i have no problemed listening to music while riding high speeds eben with a loud bike. Perfect fit. March 9, 2015
SLIGHTLY better than original speakers I installed the U-Clear HBC200 Bluetooth on my Shoei RF-1100 helmet. It came with both the original speakers and these Pro Series speakers. I have ridden around with the original speakers for about 3 months. I have recently removed and replaced them with these Pro Series speakers. First I'll go with the Cons: -A little longer to install because of the needing to route the extended mic wires. -More wires in your helmet because of extended mic wires. -No noticeable audio quality difference. Pros -slightly better clarity for the person you're speaking with because of the extended mic wires. What I expected from these was better sound quality (had trouble understanding what people were saying at moderate higher speeds, and music quality wasn't too great either), which I didn't get. I did get slightly better speaking clarity but then again I never really had any complains from people understanding me with the original speaker/mics. Original speakers COULD use an upgrade but these unfortunately are not an upgrade. Which is probably why they are priced the same as the original speakers (actually less now since they are on sale). Save your money for something else. November 10, 2014
Great improvement to an already good intercom I have a BMW System 6 helmet and my rider could not hear me above 40 mph with HBC200 Intercom. After installing Pro Microphone, now we can communicate clearly at speeds above 70 mph. October 17, 2014
Big improvement over stock boomless microphone We've use the boomless mic's for years and above 50mph, I cannot understand my passenger over the intercom. We upgraded to the HBC 100+ units and they are great but still trouble hearing at higher speeds. Full face helmet but wind noise. Installed these mic's in both helmets. Great. I can hear her clearly at much higher speeds based on a 200-mile ride. As good or better than my old very good J&M units that had a large mic and required digging into the chin bar to mount. Speakers in my helmet, WHAT??? I purchased these for a full face helmet. According to the product they are designed for they are not necessary however I like the idea of multiple mounting locations for the microphones. These were mounted into a Scorpion Exo helmet and admittadly there was a little fitment issues, as the check pads did not want to snap back in once installed. Did a little digging and found that the snap was in the way. Made some adjustments and all is right with the world. These are some large speakers for the application but they do the job better than any I have had in the past. June 16, 2014

A shopper asked: Would these work strictly for listening to music/hearing the GPS on my iPhone? I am NOT interested in any bluetooth application, I just want to be able to hear my tunes and my GPS. Jun 7, 2015

Michael R: These speakers will allow you to do that, but the speakers will only work with the UClear Bluetooth device which is attached to your helmet (as these speakers "plug into" this device).
The only other comment I make is depending on your phone, I hadve an iPhone and I find the volume even on max is not enough to hear above speeds of 90 kms / hr 55 mph.

Peter W: Ahhhhh. I get it now. You have seen the Pro microphone/speakers advertised by themselves. These Pro models are in fact designed specifically to insert into the HBC Bluetooth unit on the side of your helmet for cable free Bluetooth connection to your phone, pillion etc.....they are an upgrade to the standard speakers and not a standalone item per se. Robert A: This microphone & ear speakers do not plug into your phone. They only plug into the hbc 200 control unit.

Yes they do work to listen to just music and gps. However you have to sync with bluetooth.

Angela F: We have a set, and find them great. You can sync it to your bike through bluetooth and use to listen to tunes, GPS, and use it to chat with the bike in front of you, given they have a set linked to yours. Jun 7, 2015

HENRY K: No, they must be connected to the U-Clear Bluetooth unit, and then the U-Clear will connect by Bluetooth to your iPhone in order for you to be able to hear your tunes and GPS from your phone. Jun 7, 2015

Derek M: You have to use the Bluetooth in order to listen to music and hear the gps, but it's also a bike to bike or uclear to uclear communicator. It works great for listening to music on you phone. Jun 7, 2015

A shopper asked: This is the first time that I've ever tried setting up rider/passenger communication. If I purchase two of these and install them is this all I need? I read people talking about bluetooth so is that needed to make these work?

Peter W: Unfortunately, these are just microphones/speakers, like the earplugs for your iPhone. If you don't plug the earphone into your iPhone they won't do anything. To make them work you need to buy the full HBC200 kit, which includes the helmet mounted controllers (one for each helmet), a charger for the battery in the controller and also includes microphones/speakers. It is these controllers that clip on the outside of your helmet that run Bluetooth to allow them to communicate with each other. The microphone/speakers then plug into the controller. Apr 27, 2015

Thomas H: You can pair two units as intercom (Rider/Passenger) or (Rider/Rider) without using phone Bluetooth. Bluetooth pairing to phone allows incoming phone calls, music and GPS functions to be used via phone Bluetooth capabilities. In a nutshell, you only need the HBC devices Apr 27, 2015
Reply to Thomas Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
HENRY K: Actually, you don't even need to buy these. If you buy the 2-Pak of the UCLEAR HBC 100PLus Bluetooth communicator, they will have the speaker/microphones in the package with the communication units. Apr 27, 2015

Mark M: In order to make the U Clear microphones / Speakers operate correctly, you will need the Bluetooth communicator unit. The speakers are only speakers without the main bluetooth unit itself. Apr 29, 2015

George P: No this is just the speaker/mic to connect to the UCLEAR HBC100 Plus / HBC200 Series Pro.

You would need to buy they control unit and the HBC200 Pro comes with these I believe.

A shopper asked: Does the uclear hbc 100 plus hbc200 series pro microphones/ speakers
Work we'll with the uclear hbc 200 also can it be install on a shoei RF 1200?

Robert A: I have the Shoei RF-1100 Merciless Helmet using the hbc200, and it works perfect. Now the others can hear and understand me. I ride a 2012 R1 with yosh exhaust and hear & talk fine. It will pick up the motor when getting on it but voice over powers the motor so others hear me. I am very pleased with this mic & speaker set. The one that come with the hbc200 didn't work with the cheak pads no one could understand me. The mic route under the cheek pads and work great. Aug 28, 2014

Dave M: The UClear website clearly shows these units are for both the 100 Plus and for the 200's. I installed the Pro mic's on two different full-face Arai helmets so I'm sure they'd work great in an RF 1200. The instructions that come with them show running the wire thru the top of the helmet and sticking the small microphones at the front of the helmet just above your eyes. This would be logical for half-helmets but for my full-face I chose to run the wires under the cheekpads and put the mic's on the chinbar just in front of each cheekpad, back as close to the cheekpad as possible. Very simple to do. Works great. The instructions also suggest an optimum separation distance of 5" which you could do if along your forehead area of the helmet. But the distance between mine on the chinbar is only about 4+ inches and they work great. No feedback or other problems. Aug 28, 2014

Alessio T asked: Hi,
am I forced to buy the all communication set if I only want to put a couple of Bluetooth speakers with microphone into my helmet? I actually don't need to communicate with other bikers and my wish is to find a way to listen my phone gps indications and eventually listen some music while driving. Any suggestion?

Christopher B: These plug in to the actual UCLEAR unit, you will need the full unit for any type of bluetooth access. The honest truth is if you want to be completely Wireless and use Bluetooth technology in your helmet, your better off just getting the full package than trying to find one that does just music and GPS. If you do not want to use Earbuds connected to your phone due to safety concerns like me then the UCLEAR HBC100 Plus is by far the best I have used!!! Jun 25, 2014

Naomi P: I don't know any better way of doing this on a bike, youll need to buy the single communication pack, works well for music, phone and I'm sure with a gps. Aug 4, 2014

jing a: Pretty close sounding as my friend has that brand but i give to uclear though as with ear plugs in it is still clear. Also when cranked all the way it is not distorted in any way and the battery life last long over a two hour ride around the island with stops in between. Mar 20, 2014
