Shoei RF-1200 Inception Helmet

The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

awesome just picked up the rf-1200 Inception. the fit is really good, still some wind noise but not bad. very light weight, shell is a bit smaller than my older rf-1000 helmet and lighter too. i would buy this helmet again. thinking of picking up the graffiti version next. i got a size medium. Slick design This helmet is attractive and has a decent amount of features. I've got a lot of complements. The pinlock is an okay feature, not totally necessary for around town riding. Sunglasses and glasses fit nicely. The cheekpads are a little tight at first but wore in after a while. I tried a medium on and it was way too tight so I got the large and it fits perfectly. I'm usually a medium so I would suggest getting a size up from your normal. It fits fairly snug all around and even comes with a chin windscreen to keep air and some noise out. The visor can be adjusted to stay in place in any position which is very nice. I wish the back vents were a little more obvious when opened or closed. There's a lot of similar helmets out there for cheaper but it's all the little things on this one that made it worth the money. October 2, 2015
Beautiful and comfortable! I purchased this helmet for ATV riding, so my ratings are probably different than someone who's using it for the street. This helmet is light weight, comfortable and stylish! It is quiet and we use our Sena radios while riding without issue. It can tend to fog up a little at slow speeds - it was clearly built for speed! I wanted a comfortable lightweight helmet for ATV riding, and if I could change one thing it would be to get a bit more air flow through at lower speeds (trail riding). It wasn't cheap, but it was worth the price for me. October 1, 2015
Needle in a haystack. I can't leave a review for this product without first acknowledging the incredible support and customer service I received from Ethan and Jon @ RZ. I'm a new rider and first time helmet buyer, and they answered all of my questions, looked at photos of my head shape, and provided valuable input in the decision making process. I was considering a few helmets (Bell Star, Arai Signet-Q, among others) before choosing this RF-1200, and though it is still less than a month old - I have no regrets. But, I was overwhelmed at first with how many choices there were... I ordered the SM and MD because my head size is 56cm Intermediate Oval, and that puts me right in the middle of the two sizes. Out of the box, the MD was much more comfortable. But after watching several videos, reading many sizing guides, and asking a ton of questions, I realized that the SM was a better (read: safer) fit. My skin moved with the helmet when I moved it, I couldn't touch the chin bar to my chin, I couldn't slide the helmet off, etc. After a few days, the firmness of the liner and cheek pads has given a little, and the fit is comfortably snug. My ratings above may be skewed since I have no comparison, but here's my logic: BANG - Shoei is a top quality brand, and this is one of their top helmets. The quality and features are commensurate with helmets from other brands that go for hundreds more. STYLE - sporty without being aggressively race oriented and classic without looking like a bubble head. COMFORT - answered that above. It IS snug at first, but it is incredibly comfortable once the interior starts to break in a bit. PROTECTION - hopefully I never have to experience this firsthand, but again, everything I heard and read suggests it's top notch, SNELL 2015 and DOT-certified too. AIRFLOW - seems decent, but I haven't been on too many rides at speed yet. There are plenty of accessible vents though. FEATURES - I like the idea of the emergency cheekpad release system, but again, I hope I never have to use it. NOISE LEVEL - This is my first helmet and my first bike. I'm used to riding road cycles and hitting the drops at 40mph is loud. I have no benchmark, but the Shoei definitely makes it quieter than wearing nothing! September 29, 2015
This helmet is perfect, for me at least. Before purchasing this helmet, I was riding with a generic brand helmet, GMax. There are no comparisons here. I have the Hi-Viz red helmet. All my friends spot me via the helmet, I'm hoping all the other drivers on the road do as well ('tis why I bought it). It also fits perfectly. I don't have anything negative to say about the helmet. Great air flow, fits perfect, very wide view, looks awesome and can be easily spotted. Was a great purchase. Haven't rode on the interstate with it yet, just use it for commuting at the moment. Good Helmet!! Love it This is my first helmet. My head is round, but with flat forehead, so it is not too tight for my forehead. But it is tight on my cheek.(Like I have to stretch my interior cheek muscle slightly against the pad, so I don't bite it with my teeth) It is easy to put on my glass, and the noise level is quiet (I have a loud motorcycle, because pre-owner had a shorty pipe on) I strongly recommend it. Phantasm graphics are awesome This helmet fits very comfortably. Air flow is not that noticeable but does work. Air flow might be different for me because of +100*F temps. With all vents open this helmet is somewhat noisy. No worse then any other helmet I have owned. Not sure if something like a Sena bluetooth would have good sound with the wind noise. I wear ear plugs so does this really matter? Field of view is really good. I like the thick shield and the mechanism is solid. I have the Phantasm graphic and it looks really trick. Great helmet besides the wind noise but with ear plugs no problems. September 27, 2015
I love Shoei Coming from an year old RF-1000, this is a great successor. I expected nothing less from this manufacturer. Although, have ONLY tried my brother's Bell helmet for the cheaper alternatives, I will never stray away from a Shoei. The RF-1200 is definitely quieter than my older 1000, but that may be because the padding isn't as tight anymore (gigiddy). Airflow is great if not better. I'm waiting for it to get colder to test out the pinlock system. The older RF-1000 was very good at defogging when moving and I suspect this new helmet will do the same since I can feel the airflow from having the lower front very open as opposed to being closed. RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Stephanie T: awesome! looks great fits well! Jul 11, 2015
dung d: smallest profile helmet out there. Went in store and looked at all Arai and other model of Shoei. They are all big and make me look like a mushroom, except this. I heard shuberth s2 is small profile too, but not as small as this. Also, shuberth graphic is boring, like an old man Oct 17, 2014
Shawn W: Cause it's freakin sweeeet. Thanks Revzilla May 28, 2014
Sawami P: Good value, beautiful graphic Dec 18, 2013
Michael D: Sickest helmet I've ever seen! And the RF-1200 is supposed to be getting the Transitions photochromic visor which I've been waiting years for. No more having to tote around a second clear visor when I might be riding into the evening hours. Sweet! Oct 22, 2013
A shopper asked: How do you compare the Shoei RF-1200 to Arai RX-Q? Arai is ALWAYS more expensive, but I don't know whick one would be better to cruse and, eventually, race.

I owned a Shoei X-11. It was a very good helmet. Even in high speed, no "bounce" at all. Could you compare RF-1200 and X-11?

Michael D: Arai makes great helmets.. No question.. I personally prefer Shoei soley based on the fact that they tend to fit my head better than Arai. If you have a very round head than Arai may work for you. I (and many other shoei fans) happen to have a little more of a narrow face and oval shaped head (front to back) so the shoei offerings are much more comfortable for guys like me. Only you would know how your head is shaped. If you owned an X-11 back in the day and it was comfortable for you- then you will love the RF-1200. It is much quieter than the X-11 and moves about the same amount of air through it. It's a very light helmet and I personally think that the inception graphic is tight! The eye opening is also larger on the new RF- so field of view is excellent. One mark of criticism: the neck opening is a little narrow, so for the first couple weeks while you are breaking it in- it will be a little uncomfortable getting in and especially out of it- this will pass though and once it is broken in should no longer present a problem for you. Just know that the narrower neck opening is one major way that they managed to cut down significantly the wind noise from the previous RF-1100 model. So it's worth the initial sacrifice while breaking in. The RF-1200 is also Snell approved so it will be accepted at any track. Hope I've covered all your questions. I love my RF-1200 and I've owned four other Shoei models and have never been disappointed. I constantly get compliments on this helmet. It's a keeper! Oct 7, 2014
