Shoei RF-1200 Inception Helmet

The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Love the helmet! So this helmet was my very first bike helmet i purchased and when it came in i was so excited to go ride in it but cheek pads that came in the size medium helmet was just way too tight for my liking which i saw lot of people buy a cheek pad with less thickness which after that made the helmet very comfortable but not sure if i just kept wearing the original cheek pad if it will have become better fit but it was just too tight to try it out it looks great with gold tint visor November 15, 2015
Great helmet - helped me survive a crash First time I'd bought a Shoei and now it certainly won't be the last. It helped me survive an accident with very little issues on my head. Had no neck problems, a sore jaw for a couple of days, and a light concussion. It would've been a whole lot worse if I were wearing a lower grade helmet like I used to have. Rode a little over 14k miles with this and loved this helmet. Removable padding so you can clean it, spots for speakers for a bluetooth headset, and very comfortable, especially after you break it in. November 25, 2015
Quiet, high quality helmet Purchased primarily for my wife who is new to motorcycling. She does not like wind noise and this helmet is very quiet. I like the styling, color quality (metallic silver) and safety rating. November 23, 2015
Love this helmet I ride mostly sport touring on a BMW R1200RT and wear a Shoei Neotec, but I also have a K1200S and the Neotec just wasn't cutting it on that bike. Bought the RF1200 and it was just what I needed for more sporty riding. Initially I wanted a lighter helmet than the RF1200, but that meant spending pretty big bucks. I was surprised though when I put on this helmet; it is balanced so well that it feels lighter than it is, and it isn't a real heavy helmet to begin with. Great field of view and air flow. Bought a second helmet after the first saved a life! Over a year ago, I bought this helmet for my boyfriend for his birthday. We went on vacation and only a couple of days of wearing the helmet, the day after his birthday, he crashed. His helmet left a 20'-30' white streak in the pavement. The helmet didn't crack and it took a good hit. The forks on his 1000rr had an issue and he lost control going through a turn, the bike went into the woods through the trees and he bounced off of the guard rail and slid down the road. The helmet saved his life. This was his first real accident in his 10 years of riding and I thank God he had this helmet. The paramedics were surprised he was up walking around when they arrived. Road rash from his jacket riding up while sliding and a broken ankle because he wasn't wearing boots. It was an awful crash. He was so upset that his new helmet was ruined, but glad it saved his life. So, this year for his birthday, I bought him another red, white, and blue RF-1200 dominance helmet to replace his other one. He REALLY loved his helmet, so obviously I had to get the same exact one. No one could believe I spent so much on another helmet only a year later, but when you love someone and you think about where you would be without them, then the price tag seems so miniscule. The paramedic at the accident told him he owed me a ring, but I think he made sure to "forget" that part. ;) No ladies, this helmet won't help you get a ring even if it does it's job! He answered the questions above for this review and raves about it to everyone he talks to. "I never get really hot in this helmet, there's no noise on the highway, it doesn't shake like my previous helmet (not shoei), and it fits perfectly. Oh, and it saved my life last time by taking a brutal fall and sliding for a 'few' feet!" Now we both have Shoei helmets! November 16, 2015
Very good helmet I have been wearing Scorpion for the last 5 years and I thought they were pretty good. Then I tried this Shoei. It's another class. It feels like I am not wearing a helmet. The pinlock works like a charm. No fogging whatsoever. It felt a bit snug but after only 3 rides it already starts to feel better. It's as quiet as the scorpion. I cannot rate durability but it looks well made (that's why the rsting given). Plus it has 5 years warranty. I would highly recommend. Worth every penny and then some November 16, 2015
Great Helmet for the Money. I searched for hours on finding a helmet that would fit me right. I did think this helmet would be a little less loud than it is but the airflow is second to none. Cleaning is a breeze and the fit was just right. Give it to Shoei for crafting an awesome lid protector! November 16, 2015
Great helmet - Stylish and Quiet I have always had Shoei helmets as I love the quality, features, and looks. I had to buy a new helmet as I crashed on the race track and had to replace my old Shoei. I cannot say enough about Shoei's helmet check service as they are quick to scan the helmet and get it back to you after a crash. The first time it happened they checked it and everything was okay so it did not have to be replaced, however that was not the case with the latest one. Each time my head was well protected so it was no doubt that I was going to go with a Shoei again. The only issue I had with fit was the cheek pads were too tight. I bought the thinner cheek pads and made the fit perfect all the way around. This helmet replaced my old RF-1100 and really enjoy how much quieter this helmet is as I use it for both track and commuting purposes. It also has much better air flow so overall I am happy with this upgrade. I also use a communicator on my helmet and was able to install with little trouble. The chin bar is closer than the RF-1100 so the mic is so close that if you move your mouth around you may rub up against it. It is not a big deal, but something to be aware of. November 16, 2015

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Stephanie T: awesome! looks great fits well! Jul 11, 2015
dung d: smallest profile helmet out there. Went in store and looked at all Arai and other model of Shoei. They are all big and make me look like a mushroom, except this. I heard shuberth s2 is small profile too, but not as small as this. Also, shuberth graphic is boring, like an old man Oct 17, 2014
Shawn W: Cause it's freakin sweeeet. Thanks Revzilla May 28, 2014
Sawami P: Good value, beautiful graphic Dec 18, 2013
Michael D: Sickest helmet I've ever seen! And the RF-1200 is supposed to be getting the Transitions photochromic visor which I've been waiting years for. No more having to tote around a second clear visor when I might be riding into the evening hours. Sweet! Oct 22, 2013
A shopper asked: How do you compare the Shoei RF-1200 to Arai RX-Q? Arai is ALWAYS more expensive, but I don't know whick one would be better to cruse and, eventually, race.

I owned a Shoei X-11. It was a very good helmet. Even in high speed, no "bounce" at all. Could you compare RF-1200 and X-11?

Michael D: Arai makes great helmets.. No question.. I personally prefer Shoei soley based on the fact that they tend to fit my head better than Arai. If you have a very round head than Arai may work for you. I (and many other shoei fans) happen to have a little more of a narrow face and oval shaped head (front to back) so the shoei offerings are much more comfortable for guys like me. Only you would know how your head is shaped. If you owned an X-11 back in the day and it was comfortable for you- then you will love the RF-1200. It is much quieter than the X-11 and moves about the same amount of air through it. It's a very light helmet and I personally think that the inception graphic is tight! The eye opening is also larger on the new RF- so field of view is excellent. One mark of criticism: the neck opening is a little narrow, so for the first couple weeks while you are breaking it in- it will be a little uncomfortable getting in and especially out of it- this will pass though and once it is broken in should no longer present a problem for you. Just know that the narrower neck opening is one major way that they managed to cut down significantly the wind noise from the previous RF-1100 model. So it's worth the initial sacrifice while breaking in. The RF-1200 is also Snell approved so it will be accepted at any track. Hope I've covered all your questions. I love my RF-1200 and I've owned four other Shoei models and have never been disappointed. I constantly get compliments on this helmet. It's a keeper! Oct 7, 2014
