Shoei Qwest Passage Helmet

The Shoei Qwest Helmet was built with a focus on minimizing helmet weight, decreasing noise and optimizing fit, comfort and protection to bring a new level of comfort to touring helmets. Featuring a slightly round oval internal shape, the Qwest helmet is manufactured with 4 individual shell sizes to keep the helmet as low-profile as possible. The smaller the helmet shell, the lighter the helmet weight. The Shoei Qwest Helmet also uses the Shoei's CW-1 visor technology with the Q.R.S.A system. This system guarantees a tight seal at the face shield  by pulling the shield back to contact the opening seal evenly. The Qwest also touts an extra-wide viewport for additional peripheral vision so you can more easily take in the world around you. Snell M2010 and DOT ratings means the Qwest is no compromise when it comes to safety.

Aerodynamic Shell Design:

  • Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel and feedback from professional riders
  • Dual-Layer EPS liner enhances impact absorption and ventilation
  • Four shell and six EPS liner sizes increase fit options that help to comfortably fit most head sizes
  • Molded air spoiler reduces drag and lift as well as diminishes weight pressure on the neck while riding at high speeds

Ventilation System:

  • Upper Air Intake Vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior
  • Large upper intake vent positioned to maximize performance in high wind conditions
  • Easy to operate large lower intake vent
  • Lower air intake/defroster vent reduces shield fogging and increases ventilation
  • Rear/neck outlets allow for effective air exhaust
  • Breath guard and chin curtain are included

Lightweight Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus (AIM+):

  • High performance fiber materials are combined with extremely elastic organic fibers to create a shell structure that is ultra lightweight, rigid and resilient

  • 3D center pad and multi-layered, polyurethane foam cheek pads
  • Cheek pads are replaceable or removable for maintenance
  • Eyeglass-compatible interior
  • Standard chin strap clip neatly secures chin strap

CW-1 Shield and Q.R.S.A. System:

  • Q.R.S.A. (Quick-Release Self-Adjusting) base plate allows for tool-less shield removal and installation
  • Spring-loaded base plate pulls the shield back to contact the window beading evenly and ensures a proper seal
  • Scratch-resistant coating
  • 99.9% protection from harmful UV A and B rays
  • Optional, CWF-1 two-dimensional Pinlock equipped racing shields with tear-off posts are available (sold separately)
  • Optional, CW-1 Pinlock prepared shields are available to accommodate Pinlock Fog Free Inserts (sold separately)
  • The CW-1, three-dimensionally curved shield is both wider and taller than the CX-1V it replaces
  • A pre-set lever can easily lock the shield in place to prevent the shield from opening unexpectedly, as well as prop the shield open to increase airflow

Additional Features:

  • Construction: AIM+ (Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus Multi Fiber)
  • Weight: 3.644 lbs / 1,653 grams (approx, for Size Medium)
  • Standards: Snell-M2010, DOT

Please Note:  The vents on the Brilliant Yellow helmet are black, not yellow as shown in product photo.

Shoei Qwest Passage Helmet 4.6 5 520 520
Nice Helmet, Slightly Loud It took me awhile to find this little jem, but when I did I was a happy camper! The flat finish looked great but didn't scream for attention; the fit while snug at first loosened up to be spot on; and the weight of the helmet easy fits the bill for hours of riding non-stop. I ordered the right size according to the sizing chart - something I didn't find helpful in our brands, and the extra Snell rating is a nice little insurance policy. Overall, it's a nice helmet I'm sure to get a number of years of use from; however, at higher speeds I do notice the road noise and wind noise gets pretty high. Something to consider when you factor in the pitch of your exhaust notes. October 3, 2015
Comfortable and quiet Comfortable helmet, very quiet while driving. Removable pads September 28, 2015
About 1,000 miles later The fit of the helmet is still perfect, and I can wear it all day long without feeling any hot-spots on my head. There are two reasons for this. The first is that the design of the helmet is perfect for my head. The second is that the folks at RevZilla seem to be well-trained and know their products. A well-trained helmet salesman can look at your head and knows where to start with a vast array of products to choose from. And from there, you try on different products until you find something that fits. If you need to pay extra to find a helmet with a perfect fit, it will be the best money you will ever spend in your motorcycling life. Now for the next part. I've been riding since the late 1980s. I've owned 10 helmets. Each time, I tried on at least 20-30 helmets to find one that fit perfectly. It was not until this helmet that that finally happened. Previously, each helmet was some sort of compromise. With this helmet, for me, there are no compromises on fit. Do you know how happy that makes me? Try ecstatic. Now it's November, and I bought the helmet in July. With the cooler temps, I can truly feel the ventilation inside the helmet. I couldn't feel it in July, so I will get a balaclava for winter use. I'm okay with that. I can probably use it when I running the snowblower. November 7, 2015
Great Helmet, especially at sale price. I bought mine at nearly $500, so the closeout price is good. The quality of Shoei is obvious from delivery. I purchased the Black/Neon Yellow color and I think it looks good, especially with a dark shield. What I like most about the helmet is the fit, after replacing the cheek pads with one size larger. This is an additional expense you have to consider if you need to replace them. Another expense might be a pin lock shield if you want one, since the stock clear shield does not support the pin lock inserts. It is a quiet helmet. However, with the chin vent open, I hear some wind whistle on my sport touring motorcycle unless I tilt my head down slightly or close the vent. I mounted a Sena SMH5 to the helmet, and since the liner is not removable (the cheek pads are) a little of the wiring is exposed across the padded areas. I couldn't see another way to route the speaker wire to prevent this. It does not seem to be bothersome though. Overall, a good quality helmet especially at the closeout price and I couldn't be happier with Revzilla. September 16, 2015
Great helmet This helmet was great to start with and was perfect with the sena blutooth I added to it. I would buy it again October 26, 2015
Too noisy I wear ear plugs when traveling at highway speeds, but in the city I don't. Even before hitting 40 this helmet produces weird sounds that are difficult to figure out. Sometimes it is a whistle sometimes it sounds like one window is down in a car. October 24, 2015
Great helmet. Just a little noisier then a helmet of this price should be. Besides the above, I am very happy with this. The weight and balance of the helmet is great. Rode 925 miles yesterday and I have no neck pain. Just some ringing in my ears! One other minor thing is, I wish they sold a darker tinted shield. The Shoei one is not dark at all. Had a simpson before this and its visor was extremely dark and great for sunny days, dusk and sunrise. October 19, 2015
Awesome I wear a size medium head. but my cheeks want much more room. I'm going to downsize the cheekpads October 14, 2015

A shopper asked: how would this helmet be in a 3/4 tuck position? Aug 8, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Randy L C: I'm not sure if you are concerned about ventilation, aerodynamics or what??? The helmet is reasonably quiet..vents pretty well and seems pretty stable when making head checks at speed, so I would think it would be fine in a 3/4 tuck position. Hope this helps. Aug 10, 2013
Reply to Randy L Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Rodolfo M: Because It's based on the RF-1100 it will do fine, but its designed for upright riding so the field of vision and the venting might not be the best. Aug 8, 2013
Reply to Rodolfo Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Dena J: It is fine but if you wanna stay in the 3/4 for a long time or go deeper then you need the RF series. Dec 8, 2013

A shopper asked: Color of Qwest Passage? Does it match the Harley Davidson orange? specifically the Black Denim Night rod special ? May 8, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: Although the pictures may appear to give this helmet an orangish hue (mostly due to lighting of the photograph, varying computer screen color settings, etc.), the actual accent color is red. May 15, 2012
Reply to RevZilla Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
groc: I have a Harley Iron 883 in Black Denim (no orange), but I got the Quest Passage with the silver striping. The Denim black goes awesome. I think it'll look great with the organge too. Oct 27, 2012

apoklyptic: On the pictures it is not clear the tone of the details, but now that i have it i can assure you they are very red, not even a hint of orange Jul 16, 2012

A shopper asked: Looking at the Shoei Qwest and the Bell RS-1. Do they fit the same and are they similar in quality? Jan 14, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Travis G: The fit is completely different. I tried on the Bell RS-1 and had to try an XXL just to get my head in the helmet. And then it fit way too tight on my head in the cheeks, and top of the head was really tight. Then I tried on a Qwest, and a L fit me. The qwest is more of a slightly round to neutral head shape, where the RS-1 is a long oval I would say. Sep 28, 2015
Reply to Travis Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
nobie381: Mike,
I can't speak to the fit of the Bell helmets but in reviewing it quickly the Bell you are looking at was designed more for a sport rider which means the vents and aerodynamics work better for a more forward riding position. The Qwest is designed for a more upright riding position. This matters for optimal ventilation etc.
Mar 26, 2012
Reply to nobie381 Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Joel P: The Bell RS-1 has a narrower fit than the Qwest and is a little more of an aggressively designed helmet intended for sport riding. Both are well-built helmets but Shoei, in general, will be of better quality than Bell. Summer Y asked: I just got this helmet in the mail [pretty quickly I might add]. When I measure my head I get 21.5, and small adult hats are too big on me..so I went with the small. It squishes my cheeks, but I'm pretty sure it fits everywhere else. When I move my head it doesn't jiggle.

Am I able to replace the cheek pads to get some thinner ones?

Also, my glasses are so hard to get on. They are plastic and not wire frames [seems a lot of ppl wear those when riding]. Will the pad stretch out a little so eventually my glasses are easier to put on?

I'm a new rider so pretty clueless. Thanks!

David R: Summer, it's supposed to feel snug in the cheeks. Wear it for a few days and the cheek pads will wear in significantly. Oct 8, 2015

A shopper asked: I am looking at the Qwest Passage and the Qwest Overt. There is a difference in price, but I can detect no difference in feature. The review information says exactly the same thing about both helmets. But it is almost $100 diff in price. Why? Aug 24, 2014
