Aerodynamic Shell Design:

  • Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel and professional riders’ feedback
  • Multi-Piece EPS liner enhances impact absorption and ventilation
  • Three shell and four EPS liner sizes provide increased fit options that help to comfortably fit most head sizes
  • Molded air spoiler reduces drag and lift, as well as diminishes pressure on the rider’s neck while riding at speed

Sun Shield Visor System:

  • Built-in QSV-1 sun shield gives riders instant relief from sun glare in one quick motion
  • Visor meets ANSI Z80.3-2010 standard for non-prescription eyeglasses
  • Large and easy to reach switch activates the 3D injection-molded inner sun shield
  • Distortion-free shield blocks 99% of harmful UV rays
  • Forehead area of the outer shell is raised slightly to accommodate the internal sun shield, helping allow for the integrity of the GT-Air helmet’s inner EPS liner to remain intact

Ventilation System:

  • Upper Air Intake Vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior
  • Large upper intake vent positioned to maximize performance behind wind screens
  • Easy to operate large lower intake vent
  • Lower air intake/defroster vent reduces shield fogging and increases ventilation
  • The rear/neck vents allow for effective air exhaust
  • Breath guard and chin curtain included

Advanced Integrated Matrix (AIM):

Interior System:

  • 3-D Max-Dry center pad and multi-layered, polyurethane foam cheek pads
  • Chin curtain prevents wind entry and reduces noise
  • Cheek pads are replaceable or removable for maintenance

Standard Chin-Strap Clip:

  • Neatly secures chin strap

CNS-1 Shield System:

  • The CNS-1, three-dimensionally curved shield is both wider and taller than the CX-1V it replaces
  • Includes new redesigned Pinlock® Anti-Fog Lens for more coverage of the CNS-1 shield
  • Dual-Ridge window bead increases contact with the shield to reduce wind noise
  • Scratch-resistant shield coating
  • 99.9% protection from harmful UV A&B rays

Shoei GT-Air Helmet - Solid 4.6 5 558 558
Shoei GT Air Very quiet - the best sealing helmet I have ever had. Definitely keeps noise and noisy air out. I ordered the 31 mm cheek pieces...still a little tight on the cheeks...there is a point in the helmet in front of the center of the cheek. I would have though for the price there would have been more options for cheek pieces...and the cheek pieces are expensive. The ear speakers were easy to install. I selected this helmet for the built in sun visor...I have quite a collection of visors for my older Shoei that I had to take with me when I traveled - prefer 1 built in visor. July 26, 2016
Expensive helmet, but a good one Purchased this because it fit more comfortably than my previous one, and because I wanted an integrated sun visor. My older helmet was fairly noisy, but this one is noticeably quieter and the sun visor is great. No complaints, except for the higher price tag. July 26, 2016
Shoei does it right! I have been a long-time user of Shoei helmets. I rode with the RF900 for years and it was (past) time for an upgrade. I considered the RF1200, but opted for the Shoei Air for its internal sun visor. This has been a great added feature. The visor is nice and dark and goes over my glasses without issue. I also like the pin-lock feature, though it doesn't stop my glasses from fogging up. The air flow is less than I expected, but only marginally so. The vents are easy to operate and offer multi-position openings. My only critique of this helmet is that the first click up on the visor is too high to leave open when in stop and go traffic. My old helmet had a toggle prop to keep it open only a few centimeters. I have installed the Sena 10 communicator in the helmet and it fit like a glove. The ear pockets were deep enough to facilitate the speakers and still left room for my ears. Overall, I find this to be a superior helmet and worthy of the Shoei name. July 19, 2016
Quality helmet! This is a nice helmet with great features but make sure you have a fit that you like. I have had an awful time getting a helmet that fits right! My head measures just under 60 cm which is at the top end of size large with most manufacturers. Last year I bought a Bell Bullitt size large and it felt good to start with but after wearing it several times I started getting headaches and realized that it was too tight. This year I got the Shoei GT-Air in an extra large. I had an advantage because my brother has the same helmet in a size large that I tried on and it definitely felt tight right away. The extra large felt very good right away, but now after riding several times with that it feels like it might be a little big! If you purchase the Shoei GT-Air and it feels a "little" snug at first I don't think that's all bad. It feels to me that there's a pretty good amount of padding there that will break in some. I believe next time I will be trying a helmet made more for a long oval shape to see if that makes a difference. Having said all that, the Shoei GT-Air feels like a quality helmet. I noticed right away that I didn't have any air drag on the helmet, which also made it quieter. I have found myself using the sun visor often! The indentations for holding the visor open are in great locations and are strong enough where your visor isn't going to suddenly blow closed on you. The only drawback is that getting the face shield open that first crack is a little tough, but you soon get used to that and it does serve as a good seal. I have a Sena 20S installed and it works great on this helmet, the ear pockets are nice and deep, and you are able to use the clamp with this helmet. June 28, 2016
Good but not the best Shoie Just came back from a 2800 mile trip in temps ranging from mid thirties to 106. This baby worked well in the cold with the vents closed. This is my sixth Shoie in a row; my Gary Lawson was the best in the heat. I think that was an RF-1000. On the long ride the visor operated perfectly. I really like it. It saves having to take two visors, a clear and a tinted. The visor does hold out some heat, also. Mine shell is white, due to the heat here and for added visibility. In case you don't know, the Honda ST1300 ambient temperature stops registering at 125. It just blinks '125' above that. You would not know this unless you were sitting on the bike in that heat. If you don't like heat, don't live in Texas. Here is the first downgrade. The airflow is less than Shoie's older models, e.g. RF900 and RF1000. I buy helmets that talk about the amount of air they move. This one is OK but not great for high temps. Also, the vents on this baby seem to add noise; something new to me. The second downgrade: Between the air moving around the shell and the added vent noise this is not the quietest Shoie. The Air is reasonably quiet but (I) still wear ear plugs for extended riding. I can't wait for active sound cancellation on Shoie (hint).. After nine days of putting this on and taking it off my ears were pretty sore. That should not be an issue for a couple or three on/offs a day. The Shoies fits my head and the fit is typical for them. I think I am more round than oblong. I hope my downgrades and comments do not talk you out of Shoie. This is a good helmet and I have trusted my life to them for a long time. Just know what you are buying...and ride! June 23, 2016
Lots of features and typical Shoei quality I've had Shoei helmets since the 90s and when I got back into riding, I knew where to start looking. I've always like the Shoei shield system and always thought it worked well. I could replace my smoke shield with the clear while wearing the helmet and gloves. After reading multiple reviews, most of which talked about the quiet characteristics of the lid, I pulled the trigger. Pros: Typical Shoei quality. Easy to integrate the Sena 20s. Pinlock shield (a first for me) works very well. Integrated sunshield easy to operate with gloves. Flows adequate air- On a hot day, it's still going to be uncomfortable. Fully removable (and size customizable) liner should extend the life of this pricey helmet. Cons: Whomever decided to move to a "button" style strap retention system instead of the D-ring retainer that Shoei used for years needs to be found and beaten. The button on the strap is easy to find, the button on the D-ring strap is WAAAY up in the liner of the helmet. This means that attaching the strap is a consistent pain in the butt, and impossible to do with gloves. The shield is much more fiddly than previous Shoei helmets- I'm unable to remove the shield while wearing the helmet, and even with the helmet off, it was an exercise. This helmet does seem to run a little small- My previous 3 Shoei helmets have all been a comfortable XL, this one is a tight XL. Not dangerously tight, but I don't want to take it off and put it on more than necessary. The breath guard which is supposed to deflect airflow away from the visor is of poor quality. I can't keep it attached to the helmet and I've since lost it. It looks like it has bayonnet fittings that would keep it in place, but once installed, you can remove it by just turning the helmet upside down and it'll fall right out. The visors on Shoei helmets used to have a nice grab tab, which made cracking the visor at a stoplight easy. The tab on this visor is much smaller and harder to get a handle on, especially with gloves on. It might just be me and the fitment of the particular helmet, but I don't notice that this helmet is particularly quiet. Admittedly, I fitted the Sena 20s prior to riding with this lid, but I was expecting a quieter experience. I'd wager that my older Shoei helmets are at least as quiet (if not quieter) than this one. Pricey. My last Shoei came in around $350 or so, and I suppose I was expecting more for another $200. It is a nice, premium helmet, but all of the cons make me like it a little less. Of note: With all of my previous helmets, I've used a dark smoke visor to help prevent sunburn on my nose and face while riding on a bright or hot day. I wasn't thinking when I ordered this one- I liked the idea of not having to swap shields. Unfortunately, my first ride was on a bright, hot day at very slow speeds (motorcycle support for an ACS bike-a-thon) and I left the sun visor down and the clear visor up. My nose got badly sunburned, and I was reminded why I used to like the dark smoke visors. This isn't a crack against the helmet, but is good to know if you're fair skinned like me. Overall, I'm happy with the helmet and will continue to buy Shoei in the future. June 21, 2016
Excellent Helmet I bought this to replace my RF 1100. This helmet is lighter and quieter than the 1100. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it comes stock with the Pin Lock system. As others have said purchase one size bigger than you think you should. When I measured myself I was just under a size medium. When it came in I could not fit it over my head. Fortunately the no hassle exchange process was awesome and in just a few days I had the correct size. June 20, 2016
No fog. Good airflow. Good visibility. Comfortable. I can only compare to my other recent helmets. I recently got a Scorpion Exo R2000 because of its safety certifications, but I found it a bit too noisy and uncomfortable for day use. I finally decided to get the GT-Air and I am very happy about it. Pro: wide field of view. absolutely no fog thanks to the pinlock very good air flow confy and quiet. you can wash the internal padding. Cons: The R2000 has less wind noise. I feel more safe with the R2000, ad I use that for track days. June 18, 2016
