Shark Speed-R Sauer Helmet

SHARK is proud to present a new philosophy. Utilizing all SHARK’s expertise in safety, innovation and function the SPEED -R is a helmet specifically designed to meet the passionate demands of un-faired motorcycle riders.

Double blade air spoiler: positioned at the rear of the Speed-R, it allows the air to flow above and below the blade, hence the dual venturi effect to extract warm air from the helmet.

Spoiler/stabilizer: at its rear base trim the Speed-R has a spoiler, which stabilizes the helmet and the cancels the buffering effect. The immediate benefit is no air turbulence running inside the helmet and greater stability at a steady speed.

  • Latest generation composite ‘long fibre’ construction
  • Integrated, drop down sun visor
  • Extensive wind-tunnel testing to perfect aerodynamics and ventilation system for use with ‘naked’ road bikes
  • Double cavity rear spoiler creates faster air circulation to drastically reduce fogging
  • Rear deflector stabilizer reduces helmet buffeting
  • Faceshield varies in thickness and is optically correct, scratch resistant and anti-fog coated
  • Completely remove and washable COOLMAX lining
  • Shark Easy Fit glasses system offers wearers a comfort lining which has a pre-fitted system to accommodate all types of glasses
  • ECE 2205 and DOT approved
  • Two shell sizes

My Favorite Helmet to Data Wow, this helmet has so much going for it, it is hard to think of where to start. Looks fantastic, the paint scheme and clear on the helmet are fantastic. The vents and control for the visor and sun shade are solid and feel great. The helmet has bluetooth in mind when they built it and my Sena SMH-10 fit perfectly and I could use the pre-placed velcro in the helmet to attach my speakers, that was a nice plus! One of the best selling points is the visor, it is the clearest visor I have ever seen. Crystal clear and almost impossible to notice, I literally reached to close it while it was down not knowing it was down. No detents on the visor seem weird at first but I like it now after some use. You can also adjust the tension on the visor, I tightened mine to add some feel to it. I have used Scorpion, HJC, and Shoei and while they are all great in their own way I now have a new found respect for Shark helmets. Very stable at speeds and feels really light on your head, and is narrow enough at the bottom to make it easy to turn your head. Something I like is that the helmet uses the padding to create the enclosed feel and doesn't narrow the bottom, I have trouble getting my head inside those helmets. Made for a more round head, main pressure points for me are the two cheek pads but still very comfortable. A tiny bit bigger then I thought but my last helmet was a scorpion 1000 which was heavy and fit very tightly. The only things that aren't excellent in my opinion is the air flow which is average (better than my last scorpion) and the features. The only issue with the features is the visor lock. While being unique and cool looking, it is hard to un-latch January 6, 2014
Great helmet Had trouble getting this helmet in my size. But i finally got it on close out sale. I bought the medium and it fits very well. it's a bit noisier than i expected though. Looks great, i bought the white, silver, and black one. The shades inside work great and drop down far enough so the line between shaded and not shades is not in your line of sight. The visor is super clear when clean. i wouldn't be able to tell i had it down if it wasn't for the wind. Love the helmet. Thanks Revzilla. December 4, 2013
Great looking helmet, lots of features, if a bit loud Great looking helmet; I wear a medium in Shoei and the M in the Shark fit great. A bit tighter than the Shoei, but I imagine the pads will break in a bit over time. Great field of view on this one, and the feature set is great. The visor is incredibly clear - like another review mentioned, it's hard to tell it's even down. The drop down shades don't have the same clarity as the clear visor, however, but they're still OK. The slider is well positioned. The eyeglass slots are effective, as is the venting and airflow. It's also a pretty light helmet, all things considered. I was surprised to find this helmet louder than my Shoei Neotec (though I haven't installed the chin curtain yet). The plastics/switchgear isn't as high quality as on the Shoei, either, but the finish quality on the balance of the helmet and the liners are top notch. The graphics, fit and killer clear shield make this helmet. It's a solid 4 star helmet; I've knocked off 1 star total for the additional noise, the sun visor not being as clear as the main shield (nor as clear as the Shoei's drop down, IMO), and the relatively cheap switchgear compared to the Shoei. me encanta este casco Yo soy de argentina y me gustaria saber como puedo hacer para q me lo envien y tmb saber el costo total del casco? Muchas gracias! November 22, 2013
Try another helmet if you want quietness. I bought this helmet because my flip face Shark EVO3 was totaled in an accident. Graphics was really catchy so based on my previous good experience I decided to try Shark full face. Fit and finish were fine. The airflow in the helmet even with removable chin guard installed makes my eyes water every time on speeds above 70MPH. Also mechanism that secures faceshield is loud at speeds over 70 as well. It creates noise right around your ears on both sides. I will not recommend this helmet. November 18, 2013
Very good product! comfortable and very safe / Produto muito bom! confortavel e muito seguro. Very good product! comfortable and very safe .. I believe it is a bit wider than the simplest models of the Shark. Extremely comfortable, the visor provides a very good quality of vision. the internal sun visor is good, but I thought it might be a little darker. I wear glasses, had never experienced a helmet that would provide much comfort, including other good brands in the market and other models of the Shark The Revzilla perfeitamento delivered the product, recommend to Brazilians who make the purchase without fear. Just missed some small gift of shark as a keychain, sticker or whatever the genre, but that's not the case. November 13, 2013
Excellent helmet with a better price. I owned an Arai Corsair, and a AGV GP-tech and both are excellent helmets, no doubt about that. However they are also undoubtedly very expensive. In search of a less costly but high quality helmet, I found the Shark Speed-R. It is about 25-33% less in price and quality is very close to the high end models from Arai, Shoei or AGV. It has a very cool looking shape and I especially like the spoiler on top of the dual exhaust vents. Although the graphics designs of the Speed-Rs are not as aggressive as I would like them to be, the Speed-R models do have good colors combinations, so to find one to match your bike or jacket is not difficult. As far as the paint job goes, overall is good but I did notice a small rough / un-smoothed area around the sun visor switch, so not quite as perfect as those from GP-Tech or Corsair. The helmet is comfortable to wear, my only complaint is that it is not as light as the AGV GP-tech (close to that of the Corsair though), but then again I didn't pay quite as much to acquire the Speed-R as I paid for the GP-tech and this model is designed not quite as race oriented as the GP-Tech or Corsair, so the extra ounces is understandable and expected. The face shield is easy to take out or installed, no tools required but it cannot be locked into multiple levels between fully opened and fully closed like those from Shoei and AGV which have a ratchet system in the hinges. The incorporated sun visor and specifically designed temple pads that have groves to accommodate eyeglasses arms are well thought out features. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this Shark model to anyone in search of a good helmet. November 4, 2013
Very quiet and super comfortable :) I came from a HJC CL-SP helmet size medium and I also bought a medium in the Shark Speed-R Sauer. I have to say the fit is just right. Its extremely comfortable, very lightweight, and minimal noise level. I love everything about this helmet especially the design :D . As Anthony says in the product description video, the visor is optically correct which is a great feature in the Shark helmets! Another amazing feature is the retractable sun visor !!! No more having to wear sunglasses on the inside or change out your clear visor to a smoke visor for daytime riding. October 29, 2013

A S asked: Does the lack of a chin windstopper cause any noise, buffeting or let a little too much airflow inside the helmet in colder weather? Jan 12, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
vasudev g: The helmet comes with a chin wind stopper. I have used the chin wind stopper from day one and I have had this beautiful helmet for the last 1.5 years. I live in Boston and I ride till second week of December. There is no excess air flow and no excess noise. Very comfortable, clear wind shield and good aerodynamic properties. Love this helmet. This is my primary helmet. Jan 12, 2014

Jose A: The chin wind stopper isn't that great because over a period of putting on and removing the helmet off the chin wind stopper stretches. It admits air flow from the bottom and that's horrible during the winter. Doesnt make any noise. I absolutely love the helmet so I "embrace the suck" as we say in the Army. Hope this answered your question. Jan 12, 2014

Matthew H: Do you mean when it's removed? It does come with a rather nice one that works very well. It's made of a thin neoprene type material.
I prefer the shark chin curtain to my Bell RS-1 curtain.
Regardless, in our out the helmet is reasonably quiet. Wind is always an issue for helmets without a curtain in my experience.

Jon N: There is a removable chin piece, but I don't use mine and haven't noted any unusual noise, buffeting, etc. without it. It's a great helmet, and I love the internal sun shield. Jan 12, 2014

Russell K: The helmet does come with a chin skirt and I am currently using it. I wouldn't ride without it. It would be too much cold air flow right now and would be quite noisy. Jan 12, 2014

A shopper asked: I measure between 58 and 59 cm, which is between medium and large. Which size do you recommend? Thanks. Oct 11, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Pete S: It depends on your head shape. The helmet is for a rounder head rather than an oval head. If your head is rounder I suggest going with smaller size. If oval head is in order go with the larger size. I have a more oval shape that measures 23 1/2 inches and I chose a large. The helmet fits me fine except I added gust a touch of padding at the neck area behind my ears to snug it up. Helmet is very quiet compaired to the Icon it is replacing. I hope this helps you.

Blake S: The sizes calculated are true to size, it will feel extremely tight when you first receive it, it took me a few hundred miles to break it in, and I'm still breaking it in. I can't remember my measurement but it came out to a medium, which fit me perfectly. Amazing helmet absolutely love it. Wish I waited and got it now, as it is 100$ cheaper x), but oh well great buy! jr m: I would go with the medium. I have the shark speed r and am In between a small and medium and picked up a medium helmet and it felt perfect until the padding wore in. I them had to pick up a small liner. Oct 14, 2013

Scott M: I would say go with a large. I too measure between 58 and 59 and I think the large fits snug enough with out being too tight. Oct 14, 2013

Jorge A. A asked: Hi, I'm using an Icon Alliance Helmet size S that I purchase from you about a year ago. My question is if this Shark helmet runs similar is fit as the Icon? Oct 7, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
MICHAEL S: hey man not sure if this helps but I have a round head and I take an extra large in the helmet, but large in Icon. I could probably squeeze into a large but it might be too tight. if you have an angular head you might take the same size a small. Mike Oct 7, 2013

Jose A: I wore a small as well but I am glad that I went with a Medium size with the Shark helmet. It's nice around the cheek bones and not too tight around the diameter of your forehead. Oct 7, 2013

A shopper asked: I just bought this in a size L and it seems just a tad big (used the measurement chart before purchase). I have a little shake from side to side and feel it is worse at high speed...like the helmet lifts a little. I have NEVER worn a medium in a helmet in the past. Is there the ability to get thicker cheek pads or should I return for a medium? Sep 25, 2013

A shopper asked: How does the fit compare to the Shoei line-up? My typical size it XL. I tried the Qwest, RF1100, and GT- Air and currently use a Scorpion EXO 500. All of these fit me really well. My head shape is probably slightly oval. I usually can't even get the more round helmet around my head. Nov 11, 2013

arthur r asked: I wear a large in a hjc cl-16 and I am in between sizes of L and XL on the speed r. I am wondering should I go XL? How does the sizing compare to hjc? Oct 2, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
James P: I can't commit on the hjc but I would error to the smaller size as it will break in over time. When I got my shark I was worried that it was too tight. After putting it on and off during a day of riding my ears and temples were sore. I thought crap I should have gotten the larger size. Given about two weeks and it got easier and easier and now it's perfect and I'm so glad I stayed with the smaller size cause the larger would have been too loose. I wear a 7 1/8 hat and a M in the shark and a M X-lite. Aside from size I will dry the shark speed R is my go to helmet and I love it. It's not as light as my X-lite or my Soumy but that's too be expected having the internal sun visor and it's not heavy by any means. Great helmet and I will probably buy another one when needed. RevZilla: The Shark Speed-R helmets offers an intermediate oval headshape, whereas the Suomy Extreme Spec-1R offers a slightly round headshape. We can not compare it to the Nolan X-Lite series since we do not carry these helmets. Nov 6, 2012
