Shark Speed-R Duke Helmet

SHARK is proud to present a new philosophy. Utilizing all SHARK’s expertise in safety, innovation and function the SPEED -R is a helmet specifically designed to meet the passionate demands of un-faired motorcycle riders.

Double blade air spoiler: positioned at the rear of the Speed-R, it allows the air to flow above and below the blade, hence the dual venturi effect to extract warm air from the helmet.

Spoiler/stabilizer: at its rear base trim the Speed-R has a spoiler, which stabilizes the helmet and the cancels the buffering effect. The immediate benefit is no air turbulence running inside the helmet and greater stability at a steady speed.

Features:

  • Includes Pinlock shield and lens
  • Latest generation composite ‘long fibre’ construction
  • Integrated, drop down sun visor
  • Extensive wind-tunnel testing to perfect aerodynamics and ventilation system for use with ‘naked’ road bikes
  • Double cavity rear spoiler creates faster air circulation to drastically reduce fogging
  • Rear deflector stabilizer reduces helmet buffeting
  • Faceshield varies in thickness and is optically correct, scratch resistant and anti-fog coated
  • Completely remove and washable COOLMAX lining
  • Shark Easy Fit glasses system offers wearers a comfort lining which has a pre-fitted system to accommodate all types of glasses
  • ECE 2205 and DOT approved
  • Two shell sizes

Note: Orange colorway is closer to red than to orange.

Easy to find/use sun visor
Built in sun visor is great. The slider on top of the helmet makes it easy to find while riding. I get lots of looks riding in the city.

My head was actually between a large and medium so I went down to a medium. The only problem I have with this helmet has to do with me having high cheek bones. It sucks to wear until it breaks in. Once broke in its amazing. I use it on all my long trips because of the slide down visor.

One of the other reviews mentioned they dropped theirs and some pieces broke. First off yes I think the pieces on the back feel like they would if dropped. Secondly, you shouldn't be dropping your helmet since even that can compromise the safety of any helmet

It is true that the visor is a pain to open. Just open and close it 20 times before wearing and you should be fine. Just remember they designed this particular helmet to either be open or closed not in between. It feels great in a full tuck.

Watch the video revzilla has, they're pretty spot on with their analysis of this helmet series.

Love that you can use eye glasses with it.

2nd Speed R
I love my first Speed R so much wanted a spare! It seem every time I find a product I really like they stop making it. This helmet fits my intermediate oval melon perfectly with no pressure points. It has good airflow and the drop down visor is a must in Florida, especially on those light top motorways down here. The fit and finish on both helmets are spot on. I have had the first Speed R for about 2.5years and have had no problems with it. The liner has held up great and despite a lot of use has not developed any funky smells. My new Duke is a bright Hot orange, I love it!

Amazing Helmet
I just purchased this helmet last week and rode from Charlotte NC to Atlanta GA, here are my thoughts.

Style: I have an orange honda cbr600rr and the orange duke helmet matched it perfectly. Its had darker grey reflective graphics and an aggressive style. The helmet looks bad ***. You can also just rock the internal sun-visor for the "Top Gun" look.

Visor: You have awesome vision and the visor has no warp at all. There is a thin groove around the inside of the visor that houses the anti fog insert (which comes with the helmet and is awesome) but sometimes when light hits the groove you get a bad glare which was a little annoying. This being said, there is an internal sun-visor which gets rid of the glare instantly. The sun-visor mechanism is on top of the helmet and easy to find with and style of glove. The action is very smooth to lock it into place. Taking off the exterior visor is extremely easy. Back to the anti fog lens, the helmet comes with one but you can buy multiple tints. The rubber insert is way better than any "anti fog lens" i've ever used.

Fit: The top of my head fit perfectly. I purchased a medium and im around a 7 1/4 fitted cap. However the cheek pads were extremely tight. After riding about 7 hours total over 3 days the pads are still very stiff. The inside of the helmet was very soft and made of comfortable materials. The helmet is also very light!

Airflow: The chin piece provides great air flow. I couldnt really feel the top at all. At just the right angle I can get the top vents to really let the air in, but otherwise it seems to not do to much. I ride with the chin guard on, but taking it off would obviously add more air flow.

Pros:
-Very quiet
-Awesome lens (antifog inserts)
-Internal sun-visor (and easy to use mechanism)
-Light weight
-Looks awesome
-Price

Cons
-Really stiff tight cheek pads
-Unimpressed with the shark fin airflow system

Would I recommend this helmet?
Absolutely! Once the cheek pads get worn in a bit ill be a happy camper!

Thanks guys I hope this helped!

Replaced RSR2
This is my second Shark helmet and the comfort levels and features live up to the description. I especially like the improved aerodynamics over the my old helmet. Buffeting is non-existent. It's a little heavier than the RSR2, but the fit is such that I didn't notice the additional weight. The sun visor clears my glasses and the optics on the primary face shield are exceptional.

All around high quality for low cost!
This helmet is such an upgrade from my last (HJC) one! The fit is nice and snug, while incredibly comfortable. Good airflow and very quiet! I love the retractable tinted visor and other features, and the helmet looks great too!

Great features, Fit and Style.
Great Helmet everything I expected from A Shark. This is my second one and will not be my last Shark helmet either when this needs replaced it will be with a Shark. The air flow is better than expected, all I have to do is tip my head forward and the air flows down the back of my neck. Noise level is very low.

Great product.
No pressure points anywhere on my head or jaw. The noise level is actually far quieter than my previous helmet: a pleasant surprise. The vents are great as is the visibility. Some other helmets don't have a great variety of open positions. I am very pleased with this purchase and look forward to years of adventure with it.

Awesome helmet
Great helmet. Very light and holds up well while doing head checks. I like not having any detects on face sheild. Only gripe is its tough to open if you click it down. Shark get on that. Other than that this thing rocks.

From a quality stand point this is a great product, aesthetically I'd prefer a smaller more sleek helmet.
So this is a really nice, really comfortable, high quality helmet. There are three things I didn't like too much.
First was the size and shape (externally), not the fit. The helmet looks unnecessarily big compared to my two other AGV helmets. I'm really picky about the aesthetics and maybe it's just me but I'd prefer not to look like a bobble-head if I can help it.
The second is the inside visor that drops down. It's a really cool feature but when it is in the down position there is about a 1 inch gap around the cheek area. I wish the visor pulled down all the way to the nose guard, leaving no gap.
Third was the external clear visor. I wanted the visor cracked (semi-up position) to allow air flow in but the visor would shut with very little force- meaning it wouldn't stay cracked open like I wanted. Maybe I didn't no how to work the visor properly and maybe it was user error.
Aside from these few details, which are mostly aesthetic preferences on my part, this is an excellent helmet. I definitely feel safer riding in this helmet than any of my others.
I took pictures of the helmet, to compare along side of another. Please consider that I'm all about the looks and so the things I pointed out may not be a problem for others.

Looks great! Bit warm.
I had to get a small because medium was too big, at first I was biting my cheeks but the foam has formed to my face nicely.

Sena SMH-10 fits so well that it could have installed itself.

The colours of the black and white suit my bike really nicely and it is overall just a great looking helmet.

The dark tinted internal visor, I could never buy another helmet without one!

Visor comes off in 10 seconds for extremely easy cleaning.

That is all I can really say good about this helmet though.

The vent on top, I wonder if it is even a vent or if it just for looks, I get absolutely no air flow at 110km/h whether the toggle is forward or backward, leading to the top of my head getting quite toasty and uncomfortable on rides longer than an hour. (Note: This might just be a defect with my helmet and other helmets like it may work fine.)

The helmet is noisy, earplugs or music earphones make it a lot more bearable.

The visor has 2 things which I hate EXTREMELY!
1. The screws to tighten or loosen how easy the visor opens and closes always come loose after an hour or two riding, to a point where the visor has to be held open with your hand. Keep a 1.5mm Alen key handy if you plan to go on a long ride.
2. The stupid little clip to hold the visor shut is nearly impossible to get unclipped while you are wearing gloves, I never clip it shut any more because of this.

Verdict.
Looks fantastic, feels great and hugely comfortable, has an internal visor if you don't wear sunglasses.
Not great for long rides or hot days.

Recommend
Ear plugs or earphones for music. Don't clip the visor shut. Keep a 1.5mm Alen key handy if you plan to go on a long ride.

Maybe try a Vision-R or a S700.

I have a solid black version of this helmet that I ordered from overseas. At this point (a few years and drops later) I am ready to replace it. I really like the color scheme and the pinlock visor is unbeatable when commuting in the bay area.

I am planning to get Speed R-Duke Orange helmet, but in the video I hear that its not orange but looks more like Red? is that right or did I hear it wrong? I have a Bike with orange and black stripes so I would like the helmet to match my bike. please advise.

BEST ANSWER: ok, which is it? is it orange or is it red???

pictures online say both! i am left to assume that all the US "orange" versions are red and that the Euro ones are truly orange.

additionally, there seems to be two different kinds. One with "Shark" printed in white, another with the letters in black or anthracite. revilla's competitor (whom this site refuses to let me name) says theirs is the one with white lettering. Not sure if the one with antracite lettering is an older version?
Is the yellow Shark Speed-R Duke helmet more of a hi-vis yellow or a true yellow? I have an 09 R1 thats yellow/black.
