Shark Speed-R Avenger Helmet

SHARK is proud to present a new philosophy. Utilizing all SHARK’s expertise in safety, innovation and function the SPEED -R is a helmet specifically designed to meet the passionate demands of un-faired motorcycle riders.

Double blade air spoiler: positioned at the rear of the Speed-R, it allows the air to flow above and below the blade, hence the dual venturi effect to extract warm air from the helmet.

Spoiler/stabilizer: at its rear base trim the Speed-R has a spoiler, which stabilizes the helmet and the cancels the buffering effect. The immediate benefit is no air turbulence running inside the helmet and greater stability at a steady speed.

  • Latest generation composite ‘long fibre’ construction
  • Integrated, drop down sun visor
  • Extensive wind-tunnel testing to perfect aerodynamics and ventilation system for use with ‘naked’ road bikes
  • Double cavity rear spoiler creates faster air circulation to drastically reduce fogging
  • Rear deflector stabilizer reduces helmet buffeting
  • Faceshield varies in thickness and is optically correct, scratch resistant and anti-fog coated
  • Completely remove and washable COOLMAX lining
  • Shark Easy Fit glasses system offers wearers a comfort lining which has a pre-fitted system to accommodate all types of glasses
  • ECE 2205 and DOT approved
  • Two shell sizes

Quality Control = BAD Had my Speed-R Sauer helmet for about 3 weeks before the pin that holds the hub in for the visor snapped. Had to return it to RevZilla since they handle Shark's warranty. Even though Shark has a 5 year guarantee, their website is terrible and is mostly written in French. Warranty is handled through RevZilla, which is fine, but I'm out of a helmet for about 5-9 weeks (including a week to ship it to RevZilla - I'm guessing it takes another week for them to ship it to Shark). I bought a reflective smoke visor for another $80 and it just sits around now since there's no helmet for it. Not sure what to do with it as I'd probably not buy another Shark helmet. The front chin vent was cheaply made and was on the verge of snapping off. The chin sock to keep the air out is cheaply made as well and fit on my some slight friction between the liner and the helmet. It always came loose and I was always afraid it was going to go flying off while on the highway. The helmet is not as quiet as I thought it would be. Also the cheek pads are crazy tight. Not sure if you can adjust the size either. And the VISOR. It's finicky to adjust the tightness. It doesn't stay in place. It kinda sucks. Really bad. The hub ended up snapping off in mine. Would not recommend this helmet. April 22, 2015
Awesome looks, c&$p quality Ive had this helmet for 2 years and done 10,000kms with it. Love the looks, love the fit just the quality let it down. After 3-4 months the visor could not stay up, after a year the pivot snapped off meaning I could not ride with a visor. Under the large looking plastic cover there is a tiny aluminium screw maybe 1-2mm wide. I continued to use as a summer lid with sunglasses, the final straw was the hinges for the front vent snapping causing it to flap around. It's also worth mentioning this helmet fouls on Alpinestars Tech 1-R jacket hump. Helmet size XL jacket USA 40. It's a real shame as its a cool looking comfy lid. Riding was 90% canyon carving, 10% commuting. '08 CBR600 RR April 16, 2015
Almost perfect. Had this helmet for a little over a year and have no complaints. Vents well and the internal visor works great. With the exterior visor down (but not locked) it provides additional airflow to the face. When riding the rear spoiler prevents buffeting at speed (in the 3/4 tuck position). DOT and ECE rated, and 4/5 stars from SHARP. Visually the Speed R looks bigger than I'd like (see photo with my Shoei X11), but I attribute that to the internal visor and the extra space required (or the "Shark Fin" interior foam shape). The graphic is painted on (as opposed to stickers on my X11) which I do like. However it lacks a clear coat, and is easily scratched (see photos). Also I dropped it on the crown when carrying it (dangling from the chin strap) and the top vent cover popped off. Nothing super glue can't fix. April 9, 2015
great feel, great look, great helmet!! This is the second Shark helmet that I have owned, my first being the RSR2. These helmets fit exactly like they should according to the sizing chart, they are light and very comfortable. My Shark RSR2 helmet is 9 years old and still looks brand new, showing that Shark helmets also have a very long life span if you take care of them. April 8, 2015
Great helmet So I won't repeat a lot of the praise this helmet has in the reviews except to summarize: great helmet, great style in my eyes, really nice sun visor, awesome pinlock visor included. Now to the questions you probably have if you read any other reviews. People say that the visor lock is crazy hard to unlock, and they're right. But. Once you have the helmet for a week you'll learn how to open it no problem. Seriously, no issue unless you're wearing the thickest gloves ever. People also complain about the lack of detents. This can be solved by just tightening the visor with the included allen. Usually I (commuter & occasional spirited riding) just rest the shield on the lock but don't actually lock it. Good "city mode". Now for my subjective thoughts given my (potentially weird) head size/shape. I think I'm right between a medium and a large, but got the large because the shell shape fit really well. This helmet is very quiet, with the exception of wind noise in the helmet from the extra space in the liner for glasses (it comes with pads that solve the issue). I'm also about to put my cardo comm system in the helmet, which should make it even quieter. Note that the shell actually has indents for the speakers of a system. Overall I'd say very quiet on the helmet. The helmet is pretty aerodynamic, but I'd definitely go either full tuck or out in the wind. I know it's a naked helmet, but I liked it too much. On my Daytona 675, the buffeting on a windy day at 50/60 mph on the edge of the stream of the windshield is noticeable. Really good airflow though. Man. Included chin curtain for cooler mornings, good cooling with the vents open. Verdict: top notch, high quality, totally worth it. Sorry for the ramble, just going for more info for everyone. Disappointing :/ I cannot recommend this product; Dropped helmet from standing position. -Ok, sure.. wtf, nice job. But, I did not expect the Sunvisor mechanism (FX45102P ) and the High ventilation component (VE45206P) to fly off. The result was I lost the mechanism and 2 tabs broke on the ventilation component. No big deal, my fault. I want to fix it. **Try getting spare parts!! The cheek pads are impossible to find and no support or spare parts exist. Rev cannot help and Shark is a Black Hole. I will not be purchasing another Shark helmet and cannot recommend this product March 27, 2015
Good helmet. I'm new to riding, and was borrowing a friends helmet until I bought the Shark Speed-R. It's much lighter, more stable (I ride a naked 99 SV650), quieter, and the integrated sun visor is great! However, the only issue that I have had is that the pin that clips into the sun visor popped out...doesn't seem like it "seats" very well...at least in mine. I'm contacting RevZilla/Shark to see what they can do about it. I'm sure it won't be a problem to get a replacement part because they both have great customer service. Would definitely recommend this helmet to a friend. March 23, 2015
Excellent Helmet! Well worth the money. Shark to me just has a special kind of look to them that I couldn't find in any other manufacturer. They always have appealing designs that are bold without being cheesy like so many other helmets. The internal sun visor is an excellent feature, and the chin shape/design is perfect for mounting a go pro with a flat adhesive mount. If I had to find a fault with it, I'd echo other reviews and say that the latch for opening the visor is a little small when using gloves, but it's not a huge issue by any means. Overall, well worth the money and I'm glad I bought it! March 9, 2015
