Rukka Airway Gore-Tex Jacket

The ultimate in warm weather protection, the Rukka Airway Jacket is your "Defence and Comfort" in extreme heat conditions. Able to take on rain and heat while keeping you dry and cool, the Airway offers unparelled ventilation using Cordura AFT with AirPower Technology.

The exterior shell provides substantial abrasion resistance, while still allowing the entire body of the jacket to function like mesh. In this manner, there are no vents on the Airway jacket as the entire jacket flows air inherently. The removable liner is made from Gore-Tex Performance Shell and is intended to also be worn as a destination liner. The main zipper on the liner uses the Gore Lockout closure to ensure a constant seal against water. Rukka's RVP Air protectors are included in the back, shoulders, and elbows. The Rukka Airway Jacket rounds out with additional features like its magnetic collar closure, soft neoprene collar, reflective detailing, as well as the two interior and two exterior pockets with generous storage capacity.

Materials:

  • Constructed from knitted Cordura AFT with AirPower Technology for riding in warm weather
  • Cordura AFT is 2-7 times more durable than nylon, polyester and cotton
  • Cordura AFT is knit in such a way that it allows airflow to keep you cool through the entirety of the jacket
  • Two-layer knitted Cordura AFT at elbows for extra strength
  • Removable 3-Layer Gore-Tex Performance Shell inner jacket with minimum weight and pack volume can be worn as a stand-alone jacket
  • Gore-Tex shell has a waterproof Gore Lockout main closure
  • Gore Lockout closure is tooth-free and ensures a constant waterproof seal
  • Liner has soft flannel backer

Protection:

  • RVP Air Backpad included
  • RVP Air Protectors at the shoulders and elbows
  • RVP Air Protectors are extremely breathable, very light weight and distribute the impact better than hard protectors
  • RVP Air Protectors meet the requirements of CE Norm prEN 1621-1 2010

Other Features:

  • Intended to be paired with the Rukka Airvision Pants
  • Soft neoprene in collar
  • Collar with magnet closure
  • Width adjustment on upper and lower arm

Convenience of having a jacket that performs well in summer, under the rain and in Florida "cold" weather.
Looks and protection features was the other points that help in the decision process.

Webbikeworld provided a very comprehensive review on this jacket. As a SOCAL resident, this jacket may provide all the protection I need for year-round driving. Since it was time to upgrade my eight year old jacket, I decided to splurge on a quality item.

I have had this for a year now. Great venting but with good protection. I wear the liner as a waterproof jacket.

I'm very interested in the Rukka Airway Jacket(black/yellow) but there is no image? I'd be god for a size 50.
My other choice would be the Rukka Flexius (black/black)(I would have loved black on yellow replacing the red)

How warm is the Flexius in summer (Quebec summer!) and how warm is the Airway for fall?
Marc F on Apr 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi Marc,
I purchased this jacket primarily for late spring through early fall season with my focus being more on venting in the hot summer months (I live in the Philadelphia area). The jacket comes with a zip-in liner which works really well for days that might start out in the 50's (F) but then get warm later in the day.
The jacket doesn't flow air as much as a true mesh but for your Quebec summer I think it would be perfect and with the liner it's plenty warm for cooler days. It's shorter in the body than a touring jacket which is nice for the warmer months. My only gripe about it is the type of zipper used in the liner is the lockout zipper which is a rubber interlock type. It's very waterproof but it's stiff especially near your neck if you zip it all the way up (I think they moved away from this in a later revision so you might not get this). otherwise the jacket looks really great and very high quality in everything about it.
Hope that helps.
Kevin
Is it possible to tell me the weight of this jacket?
A shopper on Nov 15, 2013
BEST ANSWER: On a very accurate digital scale: 215 - 210.1 = 4.9 pounds for size 56.

I have a 44" chest measurement and wear 35" sleeve dress shirt. The body of the jacket fits very well. The sleeves are the right length when I am reaching forward to the grips of my F6b. I live in the humid south. It is comfortable up to about 70 F in direct sunlight. On low humidity and cloudy days it is comfortable at higher temps. I am very pleased with the jacket.
I'm thinking of getting this jacket, but was pondering upgrading the D3O upgrade. I do not have much information on what you get with D30 other than it is more flexible than RVP Air, but does not breath as well as RVP. BTW, I do not know the difference between CE Level 1 and Level 2.

What is the difference between the two?
Danny P on Dec 17, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Hi Danny,
I'm very happy with the jacket and don't plan on upgrading to D30.
RVP Air is totally cool and flexible.
Here is the some info on levels of protection:

European Standard EN 1621-2:2003[2] defines two levels of performance for CE approved back protectors. The test apparatus and procedure is similar to that of EN 1621-1:1997,[1] but with a different impactor and anvil configuration. The impactor is a rounded triangular faced prism, of length 160 mm, base 50 mm, height 30.8 mm and radius 12.5 mm. The anvil is a radiused cylinder, with its axis orientated to the direction of impact, of height 190 mm, diameter 100 mm and rounded end radius 150 mm. When tested to the procedure defined in the standard, the two levels of performance are:
Level 1 protectors: The average peak force recorded below the anvil in the tests shall be below 18 kN, and no single value shall exceed 24 kN.
Level 2 protectors: The average peak force recorded below the anvil in the tests shall be below 9 kN, and no single value shall exceed 12 kN.[2]

Hope this helps...

I notice they video says the guy has a 42 inch chest, but according to Rukka, she should be wearing a 54 (41.7-42.9) and not a 50 (38.6-39.8). Am I suppose to go by what Rukka says or do 1 measurement below what I measured to be at? I have a chest of 43, Belly 40 and Sleeve 34.
Danny P on Dec 17, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Danny

I bought a size 52 hacker in this model....in a word it fit well, a close fit but not snug. Collar and sleeve length were perfect.....my custom shirts are usually cut to a 34.5" sleeve. My actual measurements are 40" chest and 36" waist. In street cloths, I usually wear size 42 jackets that are cut with a slim fit and "longish" arms and 34" jeans. I'm 5'11" and 175 lbs. With the size 52 Rukka jacket, I could put a bit more weight without incurring a problem.

Let me know what else I can relate about Rukka fit.
I have a 37 inch chest, 36 inch hip and 5ft 6in 150lbs. which size would fit best?
A S on Nov 27, 2013
BEST ANSWER: you would be a small
I was curious about the comfortable temp range for this jacket. Without the liner I assume it should go as warm as you can go because it replaces a mesh jacket.
But could you tell me the lowest temp that it stayed comfortable with the liner in?
I have a jacket from Rev'it that I can wear when it is cold. But I wanted something to cover temps going up from 50-60F.
A shopper on Apr 29, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I've ridden with the jacket at 60mph on cool 40 degree mornings and literally didn't feel a thing under the jacket with the liner in. I would say the jacket is capable of more than I'll ever test as it could probably keep your torso warm in 25-30 degree conditions. The jacket is also entirely water proof (again I've tested it with outstanding results) so it'll keep you dry and comfy even on rainy days. I live in upstate NY and regardless of weather, once the street sweepers have cleaned up the winter roads, I'm out there and with this jacket I'm comfortable, and protected. Buy it.
